As you can see, my Free t3 jumped a good amount. It seems my body responded well when I introduced Cytomel, 3 months ago. However, I see my TSH has dropped VERY low, my Free t4 dropped, and my reverse t3 raised.
What exactly is going on here? I was taking Cytomel (pure t3) AND Armour Thyroid (t4/t3 compound). My doctor suggested to order more of both, but just stick witht the Cytomel initially, and introduce the t4/t3 compound if I feel worse. Should this protocol help my TSH, Free t4, and reverse t3? What exactly is going on with my body with the use of these medications? How will eliminating the T4 medication help my TSH & free t4?
Thanks for input.
Your most recent labs look great, Free T3 is high normal, Reverse T3 is 15.6, you want Reverse T3 at or <15. TSH and Free T4 are irrelevant in your case. The same would be said for someone on TRT, LH is suppressed and irrelevant.
Free T3 is the active thyroid hormone, Free T4 and TSH do not speed up every cell/organ in your body providing it with energy, there are no Free T4 receptors in the body. TSH being low is indicating the pituitary gland is more than satisfied with the amount of active thyroid hormone in circulation, if TSH increases it means it wants more Free T3.
Mission accomplished.
@systemlord that’s good to hear. Would not takin t4 meds help lower the reverse t3? I’ve heard there is an ideal ratio is >20%. Is more better?
I’m guessing they’re suggesting lowering to 40mcg of t3 rather than the previous 48mcg (through combo of cytomel and senior) because the free t3 looked good? I wasn’t having any negative effects on 48, so if more potentially worse? Also, am I now needing to supplement with thyroid medication ongoing? Is my thyroid relying on supplementation for that t3 to be ideal, or is there a road where I’m able to be fine without the thyroid meds?
Thanks
T4 will increase Reverse T3, this is why you didn’t feel good when adding it in. Reverse T3 15> blocks Free T3 from soaking into your cells then creating hypothyroid symptoms by slowing metabolism of every organ in your body.
When you get sick, your body pumps out Reverse T3 stopping you in your tracks, so that your body has energy to fight off the virus.
If you have hypothyroidism it means your thyroid is not getting the job done and never will and if you stop T3 medicine, you will return to the disease state you were in before treatment.
Pure T3 medication can put TSH close to zero. Without symptoms of hyperthyroidism, the TSH doesnt matter.
Too much T3 binding to its receptors aka hyperthyroidism = Diarrhea, increased heart rate, insomnia, decreased hrv, oral body temp >37c etc…
