Thoughts on UBI?

The thing about some of these manual labor, blue collar, whatever you want to call them jobs that are seen as most resistant to automation, is that they require some degree of physical and/or fine motor skill as well as strength. There can be heavy lifting involved. Not everyone who does manual labor that doesn’t require as much physicality will be able to switch to jobs that do.

Many women will find themselves unemployable as a result.

No question…

Do they have to go through an apprenticeship-probationary period? like electricians? (I really don’t know). My understanding is that it can be while before you make the “big” money being an electrician or plumber?

Just curious about both.

Both along with hvac are licensed trades, so yes

That is probably true.

A good friend of mine was living in a camper with hay bails stacked up to get through Maine winter when I first met him. He had just bought a plumbing business. That was probably close to 15 years ago, when I first started spending time in Maine. More or less a one-man operation with some of his buddies helping out here and there under-the-table.

10 years later he was making a really good living. He’s up to 5 or 6 employees now. Learning the plumbing trade can make you a decent living, but developing a plumbing business can make you a lot of money.

This agrees with my understanding of the trade.

Cleaned out these and 3 sink drains last week.
Plumbers should make more than surgeons!

That’s what I have heard! (…and electricians…!)

Hell…the guy who provided and delivered some large landscaping rocks to my house is a millionaire!

Just barely made it out of High School…but has a nose for money and how to make it!

Last I knew the place had no A/C which surprised me although I’m sure doors are open a lot and Wal-Mart has probably always viewed it as a not worth the cost. We have a ton of warehouse jobs not far from where the Wal Mart DC is and I think most if not all of them are climate controlled. UPS, Kubota, Jet, Amazon just off the top of my head probably no more than 25 miles from Walmart DC.

Had a kid I used to teach lift at the gym some and he said the production expectations aren’t even remotely doable. Coached the kid in football and he’s a hard worker and well built. I do think that’s pretty common though across the board (John Oliver had a good little video on warehouse jobs). A 10 or 12 hour shift in the Kansas summer I’m sure would be something a lot of people wouldn’t stick with. But wasn’t surprised to hear him tell me they were looking at bussing in people from Emporia which has a very sizeable Hispanic population (for the size of the town) and a decent amount of Somalians last I knew.

A question I have for no-government types is how national defense would work out considering the vast majority of people on this earth can’t even comprehend the concept of no government and libertarianism and many would be seeking to roast no-government places.

There are also some people who actually think that primitive societies were and are a bunch of people who live off the land, eat fruits, and aren’t hung up with the silly stuff we are, when such societies have rules, hierarchies (a government of sorts) and hangups and worry about stuff we would never even think of.

They still believe in money. And you can’t have money without rules.
