I lol’ed hard.
I’m not into comics, but why not just make an “alternate dimension” Thor and have it be a chick and write the two comics concurrently?
Then you can cross the story lines and shit, blah blah blah.
For creative people these guys suck.
I agree. I’m okay with She-Hulk because that her own separate character. This is pandering to the tumblr group. “HURR, LETS KILL OFF PETER PARKER AND REPLACE HIM WITH A BI-RACIAL BISEXUAL!”

Was it though? It seemed like Aaron had a lot of cool shit lined up for Thor including a love interest with Roz Solomon (doubt we’ll see that turn to lezzing out), doing more cosmic Marvel story lines with Thor, doing a nine realms war thing and so on. It seems to kind of jump out of nowhere to me. Maybe you’re right, but I dunno; I wouldn’t have thought so given his already known plans.

Framed like that I think it sounds fine, the naming is clearly just for popularity’s sake. Hopefully they do have a more elegant solution than naming Sif or whoever Thor, because Thor is Thor Odinson, not ‘the person who holds Mjolnir.’
99% sure it’s going to be his sister Angela. I mean I guess I can see why they didn’t want to just have “ANGELA” on the cover of a comic. They need the Thor title recognition. This is such a crude solution though my God.

Perhaps I’m being too optimistic. I’m hoping that the artwork including ‘unworthy Thor’ indicates that he’s not just disappearing, and will still have some page time. Also there’s no timeline for when this goes down.
As much as Angela would make sense, I’m not seeing a resemblance.
Why can’t this just build on Original Sin? Or just have Angela join the Guardians of the Galaxy and not mess with Thor?

I am inclined to agree with you just based on his past writing. Forgetting Thor, from his run on Wolverine, to the PunisherMAX series, to the amazing Scalped, this just seems out of character for his writing. He has never struck me as a gimmicky writer. Not that I don’t think it’s him writing, just that I imagine someone said, “We’re making Thor a girl, so write something”.
On an aside, pretty cool that Scalped is being developed into a TV series.

HOPE WITH ME!
I am hopeful of the art showing him with Jarnbjorn (the axe). Maybe we’ll get some cool, gritty, lost Thor storyline or something while this whole girl business blows over.
Instead of changing the sex of one of the most famous (the most famous?) of the Norse gods why not just make a film about any one of the numerous female deities that exist? There’s no shortage out there.

You’re so right.
I always wanted to see what kind of series they could come up with featuring Hel, Goddes of Helheim, the youngest child of Loki and Angrboda the giant. Her siblings, Fenris and Jormungand, are no pushovers either.
Pull her out of the underworld for a while. Maybe an alternate dimension or some alien galaxy. When she goes they could drag her brothers/sisters(?) with her.
Thor isn’t an alter-ego or a mantle that can be passed on like Green Lantern. Beta Ray Bill was able to wield Mjonir but he didn’t become Thor.

Whosoever holds this hammer, if he be worthy, shall possess the POWER OF THOR
Bill possessed Thor’s power, but didn’t become Thor. I have a feeling someone else will weild the mantle of “Thor” until the Odin son once again proves his worthines.
S
That’s my point. Thor without Mjonir is still Thor. Short of setting up some device where Thor’s soul is bound to the hammer and the worthy become vessels for his spirit, the Odinson is still the Odinson - worthy or not.

When Odin punished Thor for killing Loki, by “killing” thor, in the early 90’s Eric Masterson received the appearence of Thor but he had all Eric’s memories, sort of a reverse Don Blake thing. When Thor was brought back Eric was given Thunderstrike and became the extreme 90’s character
I cancelled my Thor sub yesterday I’ll cancel Cap next week, I’ll do to Marvel what I did to DC and just stop reading the books all together if they continue this shit.

Thunderstrike wasn’t Thor.
Issue 433 of Thor Eric Masterson assumes the powers of Thor, Thor was banished killed whatever by Odin after Thor killed Loki. Eric had been fused with Thor due to an injury he had a quasi Don Blake thing. After Thor came back Eric is given the mace Thunderstrike. Yes Thunderstrike wasn’t Thor but Eric used Mjlonir for at least a year as Thor

Mjonir is a source of power; Thor IS Thor. He never loses his identity. It’s like introducing a new Iron Man and calling the guy in the suit Tony Stark.
I really don’t see the big deal. Cap has had his ‘role’ taken before, he’s always taken it back. Thor will go back to being a man soon. They are apparently doing a ‘Superior Iron Man’ in the style of Superior Spider-man.
I disliked them killing Peter as Spidey during Superior Spider-Man, but IMO it provided some interesting stories and it was alright. And Peter came back (surprise) and everything’s back to normal as usual. Yes this is a ‘stunt’, but DC does the same shit. This is what comics do. It’s to get some more viewership.
Yes there are solid female/minority characters but honestly, no one cares about them. People care about the Avengers. If you’ve read comics, you know this is temporary. My little sister loves comics, but her ‘choices’ of female characters aren’t nearly as plentiful as mine. It’s fortunate there has been some good Wonder Woman and She-Hulk story arcs, and while that’s awesome, she likes the Avengers but happens to hate Black Widow. So if they spend 6 months having Thor as a woman, and it brings in a few people like my little sister, I don’t see how this is a really a slap in the face to anyone. Is anyone here who is a huge Thor fan scared they will never get ‘their’ Thor back?

GAY.
So, you are going to completely change a character to bring in some new fans while losing some. When it goes back to normal they will lose some and get some back. Nothing will have changed.
And as it had been pointed out Thor is a person a man. It is not the hammer or neat helmet that make him Thor. You can make Iron Man a midget but, not Tony Stark. Batman black but, not Bruce Wayne etc.
