He was relentlessly fantastic in The Wire. I’d watch a movie based on him being involved in it, no doubt.

I’ll check out that series then, been meaning to for quite some time anyway…
They can complain about Idris Alba, but people can always complain about white people playing characters that don’t fit them at all. Best example off the top of my head would be Cleopatra.
So for those who hate, they can eat a dick. This movie will be great no matter what.
He’s also British but acts on a level where no one would ever know if they didn’t hear him speak in interviews.

They STILL portray that character as a white woman but I don’t remember any protests or boycotts.

Imagine if Queen Elizabeth was played by Angela Basset. Worldwide Boycott!
Cleopatra was Macedonian Greek. Her ancestors were Ptolemies. Might not have been a full-blooded Macedonian Greek but, I would not say she was black.
About Idris…who cares? He is a good actor. I would not care who played him as long as they are good actors.

She sure as hell wasn’t Elizabeth Taylor’s complexion. I’m sure she was closer to my complexion than Taylor’s.

Not taking offense but in a movie about Norse Gods it seems odd.

The Last Airbender put a single whole white family in the middle of a tribe of Eskimos and tried to slip it by us but I didn’t hear shit from any of you.

The actors parents. Kind of have to when your kid is in a movie.

Not sure how I feel about the movie in general, but we’ll see.

The man has already proven himself to be a great actor. That is why that article claiming he is just a “hip hop dj” is a slap in the face.
He is the type of actor to make people go see the movie who might not have otherwise.[/quote]
Didn’t you just say he’s playing a character that no one knew about before the focus on this? If that’s the case then why would someone go see this movie for his part in it? I seriously doubt anyone is gonna see or not see this movie based on Elba’s role in it.

This is nonsense. I didn’t even know he was in it before this happened…which is the fucking point. This controversy alone has made him being in it an issue. Yes, there will be people who go see it JUST because of that as long as they have interest in it before hand.
Controversy breeds celebrity. If you are arguing this is not the case, you can finish debating with yourself.

If you really think that anyone is gonna see this movie 'cause of Idris Elba’s bit part - no matter how “controversial” - you’re fucking retarded. He’s a decent actor but those ar a dime a dozen. It’s not like they got Sidney Poitier in there.
Also, if those people had interest in it before hand how could that be JUST the reason? That makes no sense.
I have a few problems with the movie, firs, I think I should have played Thor haha.
Anyways I just don’t understand why they have to make Heimdall played by a black guy, I am nowhere near racist but having a Norse god played by an african american is the same as having Shaka Zulu played by Brad Pit… It just kinda ruins it.
Maybe it is no big deal if you have no knowledge of Norse Mythology but Im from Norway and those stories were told to me before I went to sleep at night.

Its gonna happen. Just you wait.
Ok I’m just curious where does it state that he is white. Most stories about God or gods will talk of there personalities, not much on skin color. The group that is telling the story just assumes there gods look like them. I’m just curious outside of the comic pic were does it state his color?

'Cause he’s based on a Norse God? Is this a serious question?
