He is the lead in the remake of Red Dawn, which was filmed before he landed the Thor gig. Red Dawn hasn’t been released yet, so it’s possible that he had to lose the mass for re- shoots.

Red Dawn may well have been deliberately held back to cash in on his post-Thor fame and it’s the norm for actors to be contracted to return for post-production re shoots if needed (Ryan Reynolds was called back to film additional footage after the rough cut of X Men Origins: Wolverine was leaked).
He’s also to play the role of Miley Cyrus’s love interest in some film, so i’d say he’l drop down even more…
Nope. That was his brother Liam.
Oh my mistake, sorry.

I don’t see HHH pulling off the Thor we’ll see in the movie.

My predictions:

Thor will draw on several myths and legends besides Norse mythology (for starters, Mjonir-in-the-stone-in-the-trailer is a nod to Arthurian legend).

Branagh has said he will draw on Shakespearean themes (who was influenced by classical greek myth), but in a way that’s in keeping with the comic book. Asgard will be at war with the Frost Giants. Odin will end up adopting one of their own (Loki) as part of a peace treaty.

Loki is raised as Thor’s brother, sees that he is young and arrogant, and manipulates him
into a conflict with Odin over the rulership of Asgard, which ends with Thor’s banishment to Earth, Odin’s “death” and Loki’s rise to power.

Thor won’t become a fully rounded warrior until after the events we see in the movie. It’s his trial by fire; the test of a young warrior sent into the wilderness to fend for himself without weapons (literally and metaphorically).
I think you’ve definetly got the story down.

Apparently Nat Portman has all ready signed for another couple of films, so I think your right about the trial of fire for the first film, getting powers later etc.

My biggest worry is that the movie will be too childish (I doubt it will be to the extremes of fantastic 4) but still, a great thor movie would be one of gore and large scale violence and rage!
Well, they scrapped any further Fantastic Four movies with that cast and they would have to be deaf, blind and dumb to not realize that they have a HUGE fan base of people who grew up with these characters.

I mean, even Marvel comics have become more mature lately. Some of them aren’t really written for kids at all. I got The Dark Avengers hardback copy and Bullseye has sex with “Imitation Marvel Girl” (implied, not shown)…not exactly kid friendly.

I had no idea that they had stopped the Fantastic Four movies, bummer. They’ll end up re-doing them like The Hulk and Spiderman etc. And the films will still suck, IMO.

Well, my hope is that more directors are looking for another Dark Knight and NOT another Spiderman 3.

No need to apologize. Liam Hemsworth did audition for the role, but chose to hook up with Miley instead. Luckily.

Just enough time for some of you fuckers to try to get at least as big as the guy playing him.
Expect “The Thor Workout: Be Built like a God” to be flooded all over the internet come May 2011. (Crappy tagline, I know.)

Along with the “Captain America Workout”

I’ll be happy as long as the dude is bigger than Gerard Butler as King Leonidas. There’s a serious problem if he isn’t.

I am holding off putting my comics on eBay because of all the Marvel movies. Does anyone have an opinion on that. I have a lot of comics, about 2000 from back when they were $0.25, and $0.35 cents. I want to get rid of the dust collectors but it has been suggested that I should wait until next year when prices may be better.

Oksy well I just typed it all out and that makes sense. Okay I change my post to, “Has anyone sold comic books on eBay?”

Lol. I would honestly be surprised if this doesn’t happen…

Also, am I a nerd if I know that Prof X is talking about Dark Avengers? Sigh.

He’s admitted that this is enhanced, CGI muscles folks. That really pisses me off…
It’s not CGI. Look at some of the interview videos, dude did actually get yolked for the role. He was already semi decently sized before he got the role, and he buckled down for 6 months and packed on some extra size.

I for one, think he looks perfect for the role now.
Mr. Frost wrote:

Damn. There’s a whole lot of comic book movie fans that have no idea they used CGI. Most think that’s all him. No wonder he walks around in long sleeves all the time. They probably instruct him to do that so that know one will figure out what they did.

Hell’s bells so does Chris Evans for that matter! Will it be a CGI build for Cap too? I wonder…

I guess it’s better than a fucking foam rubber Juggernaut.

Well hell. As long as it looks good and they are consistent I guess i don’t have a problem. However I still don’t see why they couldn’t have just found an actor that bodybuilds.
As I said in another post, it’s not CGI:

Pretty sure the Aryan poster boy tore up natalie’s snatch too.

Jesus. Is it really THAT hard to find somebody who isn’t a bitch to play in superhero movies? This guy has a decent build, but that’s it. Nothing godly about it. After this, and the whole Conan clusterfuck, it makes me wonder, who is casting these things?!

Especially Thor, what a no-brainer. You need some jacked, big ass nordic looking mother fucker? Have you even HEARD of the world’s strongest man?! Magnus Samuelsson grows his hair out for a year, and you’ve got the most perfect thor you could ever ask for.

^ This.

no.

Nobody would pay to go watch Magnus stumble through his lines for 2 hours. No one in their right mind would finance that movie, because it would be shit, and nobody would go see it !

How can you jackholes not understand, that ACTORS are in movies, not bodybuilders, not pro wrestlers, not strongman.

Arnold was a ONCE IN A LIFETIME THING !

Fuck !

But… maybe… Magnus has hidden untapped acting potential? Maybe he practiced Shakespearian monologues while building his strength on the farm? lol
