In 1991 I moved to a suburb of Fredericksburg, VA. One of the first guys I met was Mike S. Mike was a pretty cool guy, with a pretty hot wife and two very sweet young daughters. His only vice was maryjane horticulture, which out here is not a big deal, or rare. I remained Mike’s friend as his life took a turn for the worse. His wife started in on the crack, and his marriage fell apart. I even testified at the divorce, terrified that she would get custory of the girls, then in grade school. Mike worked through all that, beat a drinking problem and a couple of bad romances, went to night school, got a degree, and landed a great job as a computer jockey for the Navy. So far so good, I guess – but a rough decade for anyone. About 15 months ago we moved even farther out into the country, and I gradually lost touch with Mike. Last time I saw him he was bitching about how his wife left the girls in a car outside her connection’s house while she went inside to get smoked up. Today I get a call from my workout buddy. He tells me his ex (they are on good terms) gave him a call. She saw them emptying out Mike’s house. Stopped to find out if he was moving or what, and Mike’s dad was there and gave her the story. Spotsylvania man arrested on Internet porn charge

SPOTSYLVANIA, Va. (AP) _ A Spotsylvania County man was arrested in Florida for sending sexually explicit pictures over the Internet to an undercover agent posing as a teen-age girl, state police said today.

Michael John Simmons, 43, is charged with one count of transmitting sexually explicit material to a minor and one count of possessing a firearm in the commission of a felony.

Simmons initiated a conversation online from his home June 30 with someone he thought was a 13-year-old Florida girl, state police said. The girl was actually a Columbia County, Fla., Sheriff’s Office investigator.

After about two weeks of conversations over the Internet and by telephone, Simmons and the “girl” agreed to meet Monday at a motel in Columbia County. Florida police arrested Simmons when he arrived at the motel shortly after 8 a.m. and seized a pistol from him, state police said.

That same morning, Virginia state police seized computers from his home as evidence.

I have. As a result, I’m fiercely self protective and can count my real friends on one hand.I also live my life by a motto I picked up from another bulletin board: Always keep your gun and your pants where you can find them in the dark.

Just a ‘friend of a friend’. My friend Jay in college was good friends with a couple and their kids (knew them for over 5 years), even ran errends for them and went on trips with them. They were arrested our junior year for international drug trafficking. Jay was subpoena’d and had to testify in court, after being pulled out of college for a few days for questioning by the FBI. It turns out that the suitcases he had checked on a flight as his extra baggage was full of drugs…

Sending internet porn to someone he thought was a 13-year old girl? Despicable, but not surprising. People were getting married at that age not long ago, so the capacity of a man to lust does not surprise me.

What does make me shudder is that he had a gun with him. What the hell was he planning to do with that gun? The police sure prevented a tragedy here.

I am thinking he had more planned than just sex…and maybe she needed to “go away” after. I know the gun. It’s a .357 with a 6" barrel and hot loads. A real fucking cannon. As you might imagine, all of us that knew Mike are firing emails back and forth on this. Another ex-friend had a chilling thought. This girl might not have been the first, also he has daughters in their early teens. Creepy.

My dad had a horse trainer for over 10 years and was also a friend of my dads. Well, recently he has been charged with 8 counts of child rape. He would invite the little girls over to ride horses and then take advantage of them. Their ages were 8 to 14. Their is no way of telling how many sick bastards they have out there. They even have mor charges coming out against them.

I would certainly not hang out with that guy, but did he commit a crime? That sounds like entrapment.

It’s only entrapment if they posed as a child and led him to do things, if they enticed him to do something that he normally would not do. If they posed as a child and went along with plans that HE started it is not entrapment.

First and most important: anyone who makes an effort to seduce a young teenage girl over the internet and meet her for sex is a scumbag. However, considering that he had never met the girl, maybe he just brought it as protection in case she wasn’t what she said she was and was worried about getting rolled in some strange hotel room.

My next door neighbor was recently arrested on charges of child porn. I always knew he was a scumbag, but I didn’t think he was that kind of scumbag.

I have had friends that I thought I knew before, but something like what this guy was into was something that a person would go to great lengths to hide about themselves. My guess is you would not have a clue if anyone was like this until they get caught.

As anyone else not noticed the strangest part about this? The “phone calls”. I mean, if it was an officer POSING as a 13 year-old girl, then he didn’t notice on the phone? That must have been one hell of an impression.


However, I guess in these cases, they get a female with a higher-pitched voice on the phone to act like a girl that age?

Yes, they get a woman to mimic the speech patterns of a young girl. They can also modify the voice somewhat using a ‘filter’ (I don’t know what to call it). These sickos are all over the place, and this type of sting is getting more and more common.

I realize that this isn’t legally entrapment, and I know this kind of sicko really does deserve to be behind bars, BUT…


Doesn’t it bother anyone else that there are government plants just waiting for you to screw up? To look at things a little differently, there’s the example of fake steroid websites that, once you ‘complete an order,’ you have police outside your door. In the near future, if I use Kazaa to download a file, will I get the message “prepare the lube” as a swarm of RIAA and FBI agents handcuff me and take me off to jail? It would be different if perhaps there had been complaints about this individual before, or if there were some good leads that this guy was a pedophile. But hanging out in chat rooms, hoping that someone just screws up… well, that smacks of Big Brother to me.

There was a case a few years ago where a man was bombarded with child porn ads in the mail. The ads were actually fakes generated by the police to catch criminals. After two years of receiving such mail, the man placed one order and was promptly arrested. He fought the charge and was acquitted. It was felt that the police induced him to commit the crime by such high pressure tactics.

I think this case of Huck’s buddy is not the same. He voluntarily sought out the company of a 13-year old girl. It is not like the cops bombarded him with e-mails.
