They’re trying to teach my dumbass to weld at work, hilarity ensues. I’m a pretty handy guy, and more than willing to learn stuff with a good attitude, but watching my handy work with a cutting torch and welder should be on a sitcom haha
Edit: This all being said to lead into how much I didn’t appreciate the trades until I had to try my hand at them.

Well, a strong sense of humor is probably going to be your best asset.
If you cant laugh at yourself…
…Laugh at that other guy. He always f’s up!
For real-Have fun with it. Its an awesome skill/trade. I’ve finally gotten my own set up for stick, mig, & tig and work with my buddy that owns a tree company we started like 25 years ago fixing what ever goes boom. We have a blast.
What are you doing with it? Like, fabrication, maintenance, etc.?
Maintenance and repair for oil lines and water injection lines, some fabrication for that stuff. All straight forward (by a real welder’s) standards. But I’m basically apprenticing (along with my other responsibilities in the field) in an attempt to learn more skills and build a better resumé come bonus season haha
finished up the kitchen today. Well, mostly, still need to paint. Most of the work on the house has been more repairs or functional stuff, along with painting every room In the house, but this is the project I looked forward too. Everything in this photo is new besides the floor and cabinets. Countertops, backsplash, sinks, whole 9 yards. Totally new type of project for me, I’ve got very limited experience with any type of plumbing and never done tile work, but lots of YouTube and a little elbow grit, and things turned out okay

Listen to The Wait by Boiler Man on #SoundCloud
It’s a slow burn, but it’s the song that I’m most proud of. I wrote it when I was in a bad place at 17 years old. I recorded it back then on a Windows XP desktop and garbage equipment. It ended up being an anthem to my life for years, and it means a lot to me.
I decided to re-record it a year or two ago after I honed my mixing chops a bit. I did the guitars, bass, and programmed the drums as well as editing and mixing. My cousin sang it both back in the day and on this updated recording.
Edit: also, that is a throwaway soundcloud account. I’m not phishing for listens or anything, just thought I’d post it up for people to enjoy or reflect on.
@boilerman
That’s incredible work, dude. Just listened through and it sounds amazing.
Thank you so much, I really appreciate it. I have been on the fence about posting some music to tnation for a while now, but decided to just go for it. I’m pretty proud of it.
Well I’ll be darned,
The boilerman theme song
I love it dude, you’re so talented, lots of emotion. Good job to you and your cousin.
I’m glad to hear you like it dude, thank you!
My dad thought I was ready to try laying stone today. Not the prettiest job but I’m happy with my first attempt.
EDIT: He’s a mason and I’ve always worked with him when I have time, just never actually laid anything.
You sharing this makes me happy too, great job!
Thanks man! I had you in mind - we’d talked about the trade and my experience in it before.
