Things You’ve Always Wondered About

Not bad for a petroleum engineer and geologist.

FWIW, this are the same concepts as pipe and gas/liquids (and blends of gas and liquids) change diameter, speed, temperature, pressures, etc.

As gas comes out of the ground at ~400F under massive pressure, is compressed down various tubes, stripped of fluids, etc, you get interesting effects.

Like giant sheets of ice and super heated steam all at the same time.

Mostly safe. Except when it is not. Our explosions show up on seismographs.

Ahh, the beauty and danger of controlled chaos.

In reality, the fluid doesn’t matter (air, oil, natural gas etc…) the governing physics is all the same.
Edit: For those curious, the Navier-Stokes equations are the governing one.

“Mostly safe, except when its not”

Okay, that made me laugh out loud!

Yeah, we have a massive riot (for NM) in Albuquerque where people were shot. The media was calling it “mostly peaceful.” I guess that’s the same description they’re giving to all the other riots.

Anyway, my time in Afghanistan and Iraq was mostly peaceful, too. I doubt 3% of the time involved actual exchange of rockets and gun fire.

The Titanic had a mostly peaceful voyage.

Heck, the Hindenburg was “fiery, but mostly peaceful” too.

Nuclear weapons are “mostly safe”…lol

If the universe is in fact a cyclical phenomenon does that mean we’ve already lived this life an infinite number of times?

I don’t know if it’s cyclical but it is ever expanding. Some quantum theory currently suspects a large number of other dimensions where, presumably, “you” could exist simultaneously.

I forget where I read it, but it’s speculated that at some point the expansion will slow, stop, and begin to contract ultimately leading back to the singularity which will, again, produce the ‘Big Bang’ starting this carousel all over again

I call bullshit. Everyone knows it’s turtles, turtles all the way down.

Could be. Could be. Or could be the Turtle is just one of the 12 guardians of the beam, and we just happen to be on its rung…ka tet is a wheel and the Tower is the center.

You’ve always wondered about aliens? What about them?

I think maybe aliens are responsible for the dude’s hair decision there.

No, there was no turtles, or big bang - or expansion or contraction.

there was just aliens - srsly.

I"ve seen it on the History Channel, so it has to be true.

They’ve recently changed their name to The “History” Channel – important distinction.

Really?

not understanding the difference…

Is it ever expanding?

I know that experts say the rate of expansion is increasing but does that mean it is indefinite.

I’ve read a bit on that and it is such a depressing idea. I think it alleges that ultimately all matter and energy will be dispersed over such a vast area (infinite area) that it is the equivalent of nothingness. Just dark, cold empty space.

I do vaguely recall reading something about the proposed shape of the universe. If it is flat verse curved and the shape would suggest if it is going to expand indefinitely or if eventually at some point a force will precipitate the “big crunch”.

I lack the cognitive capacity to even pretend like I understand these things.

Either way I still enjoy contemplating these possible realities.

Multiple versions of myself existing. Haha just like Jet Li in The One.

Another thing I’ve always wondered about is what makes a person a person.

From the perspective of a reductionist are we not the sum of all of our small parts. A bunch of organic carbons with some minerals thrown in the mix. Including our memories. Just patterns imprinted upon an organic matrix.

So if thats the case. I exist everywhere. If I took my friend and rearranged his carbons a little bit. Or If I rearranged the molecular structure of the tree outside my flat. I would have me. I am literally everywhere. I just need to be reorganised. Interesting don’t you think.

Some theories on what eventually happens to the universe say yes, others say no.

Surely not? Where should that sugar come from?

From the curing process. Salt and sugar have been used to cure meat for ages.
