Overcoming ones own mind is difficult. It can be done in the vast majority of situations, I’d think some circumstances are more difficult than others.
I’m about half way through this. Let me tell you I’m much more empathetic and productive.
Preference. People like to read what’s popular so they can have something to talk about … teen books are easy to read and don’t really require much reflection … people think all day at work … they may not want to think during relaxing time … personally I like history books … I’m reading Herodotus at the moment, then I’m going to read Xenophon’s “Anabasis”

It doesn’t feel like anything and you wouldn’t know anyways, you’re dead. Your body and nervous system no longer functions and all brain activity ceases. It’s a void … at least physically. Spiritually who knows. The energy animating you rejoins Nature/the Universe/God … but feeling as you know it ceases.

Had the opposite effect, for the most part, for me. I can’t smoke at night if I want to go to bed in the next couple hours. I tend to work through difficult piano passages … I can’t watch anything serious on TV or I start to think too deeply, go down a rabbit hole. I also will clean and organize the house and stretch … I get some deep stretching in while high. Needless to say I don’t smoke often

Not that I’d know anything about being an Ivy League frat boy, but if I was one, I’d be doing mountains of cocaine. That’s another drug I tried 20 years ago and deemed to good to use. Great stuff. I feel like I’m due for a binge after two decades or so.
Back on-topic, I wonder why nobody in the Incel thread suggested cocaine as a social lubricant for men who are struggling with getting laid. Sure, it probably won’t end in a happy marriage, but there’s also no shortage of women who like cocaine enough to sleep with a guy who they’d never even talk to if he didn’t have cocaine.
