My 12 year old thinks it’s so funny and sings along with me.
PEOPLE WHO CURL IN THE SQUAT RACK. If you wanna use a barbell to hit your biceps that’s FINE, but do it outside of the squat rack so that people who have leg day can actually do their stuff.
Oh my goodness t-nation has gone full circle
Sadly, the original thread has been lost to the sands of time…
People that get mad at me for curling in the squat rack when I am curling more than you squat.
How about women nowadays who clog up the only 2 smith machines the gym has, working out in a group of 2, 3, etc. doing those goddam hip thrust/booty blast “workouts”! Not only do they tie up the smith machines, but they also are thoughtful enough to tie up a SECOND piece of gym equipment: the movable adjustable bench/incline bench! So they can prop their elbows on it to perform their hip thrusts. Shit is infuriating.
They can sometimes tie up those pieces of equipment for 15, 20, 30+ minutes…between everyone in the group performing their set, to then gabbing and looking at what video everyone is watching on their phones, its maddening!
Don’t bother asking them how many sets they have left because a) they act all confused as to your actual intentions of asking them such a question and b) they either don’t know, or purposefully say a big number in order to make you go away. No matter how polite you are, no matter how carefully you try to approach them so as not to “scare” them, it doesn’t matter. If you see a group doing these ridiculous exercises on a smith machine, just count to ten and go to your next alternative exercise.
Last, and I can’t not mention it…is it me or does everyone else also witness that the majority of women doing this exercise are FAT…FAT. I’m not “body shaming”, just stating observational facts I’ve seen on a pretty consistent basis. So, they are 40, 50+ pounds overweight but they are worried about their asses, and performing an exercise that will not really burn any fat but will ADD muscle to their asses, potentially making it even bigger? I just want to yell at them “go get your asses on the treadmill and walk about, oh, 40 miles or so, then do it everyday for the next several months”. That would do more for their physique/asses then doing booty blasters.
A couple things here:
-
Yeah, I can see how that’s frustrating for people who want to bench. I feel the same about curling in the squat rack. I can only speak for myself though: I don’t use the smith machine for hip thrusts, I take an actual barbell elsewhere and set up my hip thrusts in a corner with a wooden box instead of a bench. Note that I take the barbell AWAY from the squat rack so that other people can squat. Surely people who want to curl with the barbell can do the same thing.
-
I only use my phone to either switch up my music or set my timer for resting in between sets. I agree that going on social media or youtube or whatever between sets is stupid; you’re at the gym to workout and lock the fuck in, not scrolling through brain rot.

I can’t really attest to the fact that the majority of girls doing hip thrusts on the smith machine are “fat”. I personally mind my own business and don’t ogle at people’s physiques.
There are no groups of women working out at my gym, just individuals, but they do tie up the Smith machine. I never use, so it doesn’t really affect me. None of them are fat, though.
Wondering why all these fat people are at the gym is kinda like wondering why I keep running into addicts when I go to rehab.
I think yall failed to see my general point. Nothing wrong with fat ppl at the gym, it’s good that they are trying to get in shape. My grievance was with grossly obese women who do NOT do cardio (I do cardio and trust me, I’ve never seen these women in that area) but man are they concerned with a weight training regimen but ONLY for their butt. They are not doing shoulders, arms, etc…just the hip thrust stuff because don’t you all know by now? Us men all want women with ridiculous enormous butts, like, if they don’t look like Kim Kardashian then we don’t even bother with them, lol. That was my point, they are trying to improve their butts…but their approach shows they invested NO time in researching an overall fitness regimen/workout routine. They just saw on tik tok that if they do these exercises, a huge butt will be theirs…and thus they hog the smith machines/benches for an unreasonable amt of time.
Filming their trash training too… its insufferable
You’re in rehab??
jk
Not currently.
Prior ?? No judgement
To be fair, part of that has to do with the nature of social media and wanting to get views, likes, etc, even if it doesn’t pertain to an “overall fitness regimen” as you stated. Like “This is the ONE exercise that gave me a dump truck” type shit. I’ve fallen victim to that in the past, and a lot of these women you refer to probably are also. They are likely newbies who are in their trial-and-error phase. You live, you learn. Hopefully soon enough they’ll realize they need to start investing their time and effort into researching routines that encompass the entire body, not just their booties.
Also this is kind of me going on a side rant now - if you want a big butt and ONLY want to exercise your butt, then to each their own. But IMO if you’re walking around in public with a big butt and the rest of your body has no definition, then it’s just gonna look like you got a BBL. And as such, it will give the impression that yes you went into the surgeon’s office or whatever and got a BBL, which isn’t a reflection of the hard work you’re putting into the gym if you actually grew a big butt from hip thrusts or other glute exercises. And this is not to say that you should care about what other people think of your physique, if you’re happy with what you built then that’s more than fine. But I can confidently say that when I see someone with massive quads and defined shoulders and bicep veins, that’s when I KNOW that they worked hard for and earned that shit. It’s a sign of self-discipline and self-respect, which is a flex.
And I’m not saying that girls who only do hip thrusts etc don’t have self discipline or self respect, the fact that they’re in the gym is a huge sign that yes they show up for themselves. It’s just that outside of the gym, other people may not know that if they have a bbl and nothing else
If they aren’t working the hammies they’re leaving out the best area for booty gains.
Im like a scientist or something on the subject. Been studying them for years! ![]()
Wait actually? Say more on that.
yoked hammies are dope
Oh yes. Absolutely. Like a natural, proportional BBL.
A picture is worth 1000 words.
In motion:
From the short:
Your Honor, I rest my case.
DAMNNN I WANT THOSEEEEEEE. Rugby players also have massive hamstrings
So do I !!! ![]()
