40.2% of healthcare cost was from gov spending last year
That means of the 4.1Trillion dollars spent 1.65 Trillion is theoretically taxpayer funded. With 144M taxpayers in the US the average burden on each taxpayer is $11,422 (approximately) per year. This pisses me off
Therefore it is a problem that 42% (as of 2020, I am sure that has gone up thanks to lockdowns) of the USA is obese. All taxpayers are racking up medical debt for the chronically ill.
In general I tend to agree re obesity. The majority of cases are lifestyle related - and no one else is to blame.
But - and it is a but based on my own professional experiences - it is more complicated than just excess calories. Similar to the genetic variety in predisposition of building muscle (or not) applies to obesity.
I am not sure to what extent, but would not be surprised if we are talking about 5-10% of the population that canāt even look at a box of cool whip without gaining some pounds. As far as I know it may be caused by several factors (digestive system hormones, gut bacteriae) along with hereditary traits.
That being said, the majority of swedish men are considered overweight. In the US I would expect the same applies re obesity unfortunately (42% you said in the previous post - thanks).
I canāt disagree with you because i have no background. Even if itās as high as 10% that still leaves 33% or so that are driving the majority of publicly funded health costs. Not to get to far into PWI territory in this thread but I think some responsibility needs to fall on that 33%
