Things That Piss You Off

The best thing about the pandemic is that meetings and lectures have gone online

Nooo…I can’t stand online lectures. Much prefer to be in person.

I agree with this one. As a mainly auditory learner, in person lectures are great.

Unless my camera had to be on, I never payed attention to any online lecture.

I find it very painful to sit down for long periods of time. Online let’s me stand up, walk around and eat

Also, there’s a 90% overlap in the content of two of my classes, with the other 10% being a project which is structured identically to the independent project I did last semester

That’s the bad part. I hate how I look on camera

The whole camera off thing was dumb. I never had live Zoom classes, just in person or watch-on-your-own-time Zoom recordings, but everyone I know who had live Zooms just turned the camera off and slept or went on their phone. I kinda understand why you wouldn’t force someone to turn their camera on but I also think it would’ve been better to do so.

Me too, haha, so I’d just put the speaker on full screen, or if I was really bored, gallery mode and watch everyone else.

I’m sure most people dislike the way they look and are paying more attention to themselves than other people.

Probably not the best thread to bring that one up lol

Why is that? It’s something that pisses me off. Lately even more so.

Tis a bit of a PWI issue and highly contentious among most (irrational) people

I agree @Koestrizer. NOTE: I am not saying whether or not one should wear a mask or if wearing masks does anything, but when one is required to and ends up just doing a great job of covering up their chin, I’m just like…

At risk of opening the can of worms, wearing a mask on your chin is far more convenient than wearing it over your nose. If you don’t believe it’s reducing transmission either way, then keeping it away from your airway makes sense. In other words, people don’t wear it on their chin because they don’t know how to wear it.

One of the funniest things I have seen in terms of mask wearing is people the take their mask off to yell, sneeze, or cough (or just to have a close in conversation in general). It gives the lie to the whole thing.

I would argue it is actually more effective when covering only the mouth (assuming the wearer isn’t a mouth breather) because the humidity on the inside of the mask increases lifespan of the virus. So if you breath through your nose - there is not impact to you, and if you cover your mouth with it - you block most of the water droplets that are supposedly the whole concern anyways (ignoring the fact that it spreads via vapors).

Not opening a can of worms though

Ha! I can spend 15-30 mins crafting an email with exhibits, or… We can hop on a zoom/teams call and get everything answered in <5mins.

I get on my people about wasting time sending long emails instead of picking up the damn phone or scheduling a 5min video call.

Work related: When I get calls without any introduction as to who is calling or what they are calling about. I work in construction with a number of projects going at any one time. My phone rings and I answer it. Guy on the other end just starts talking about his project. Guy, you aren’t a rock star and I don’t recognize your voice. Do what polite people do; say who is calling and what you’re calling about so I can orient my brain and follow along.

We learned this in brownies 50 years ago. Phone manners. Can you learn it?

When someone goes as far as to make 3 different threads asking for program advice, ignores everything everyone says, then says ā€œI want to do (insert bullshit program here) program insteadā€

My actual thoughts :

" You aren’t going to do dick. You are going to quit, and the only reason you’re even asking any questions is in the hopes that someone says something you don’t like so you can blame them instead of yourself. People that are serious do first and ask questions later.".

What I actually post:

ā€œKeep at it bro. Let us know how it goes.ā€

Maybe we should recommend cool whip and pizza to go with said shit program. Seems like a recipe for success and a 2 plate bench.

I would, but I don’t want him to know the secret behind every 2 plate bencher’s successes
