Things That Piss You Off

Any mundane type of small talk is irritating really

I actually feel like answering, “I am not ELon Musk or Steve Jobs. I am not the job. What do you think changed about my job since you last asked me.”

Bahaha. Perfect.

I hear ya man
it’s a banal question asked out of politeness or some aversion to silence, awkward or otherwise.

If I’m feeling somewhat mischievous I’ll answer the question in excruciating detail; which I did this past Saturday night at a dinner party for my wife and her co-workers with whom I share little to no professional similarities. Regret is a beautiful thing to watch as it spreads across another’s face.

I usually answer it politely and say, “It’s good.” Sometimes when asked by people I see frequently, I’ve answered, “It is a job. I complete obligatory tasks and leave. I don’t have a job in which the creative juices flow.”

I know the people who ask are well meaning, but I have sometimes literally been annoyed. I’ve sometimes answered “how’s work?” With “annoying,” “boring”, “repetitive,” etc. Surprisingly people appear shocked by such reasonable answers.

I’ve also been asked on an annual or bi-annual basis by some if I’m “still at the same place?” And/or “you still doing
?”, as if in one’s thirties or forties he can simply and magically afford to change jobs and careers every six to twelve months.

Yea man. Like, “bro, I don’t want to keep jumping from job to job - I want to actually build a career mang .. not just making lateral changes
”

I like to have fun with that one. It’s usually someone who is being polite but can’t (probably shouldn’t) remember.

Them “Are you still ahh
”

Me “Welding?”

“Yeah! That!”

“mmm, Nah. I quit that and went back to med school. I’m taking my boards next month
”

“No shit
”

I like throwing people off at retail stores -
Wal-Mart Greeter “Hey how are you today”
Me: “Crappy - had to come here”

Usually they just turn and walk away.

This reminds me of something earlier in this thread. The “you look tired/annoyed” and “is something wrong?” lines. I think I got this a dozen times from Saturday to Sunday. My wife’s relatives came from out of state for my daughters baptism on Sunday. Enormous social fatigue set in. Eating, talking, drinking, take pictures
 repeat
repeat! On Sunday at the party several people asked what’s wrong. Well, nothing was wrong. But I was freaking tired. I felt like answering, “it is 3 PM. I have been speaking to people for all waking hours since yesterday and I foresee this stopping at 12 or 1 AM in addition to bringing all sorts of shit home! Yes, this is fun, but I’m getting tired.”

I’m an omnivert but I feel mentally wrecked after such enormous togetherness. And it’s only Thanksgiving time. The party just started. :grinning: :christmas_tree: :gift: :santa: :snowman:

This is the time of year in which a new Amazon Prime shipment is on my doorsteps everyday.

I can’t remember the exact figure, but something like 80% of ocean plastic pollution comes from 4(?) rivers. All in China.

Plastic bags et al are ugly but rapidly degrade in the Sun. They’re unsightly, not a danger to the environment.

China and India. Funny you never hear the sjw psychotics take them to task. It’s just “white man bad”

As a Chinese person- I completely agree.

The government is “trying hard”, but honestly, with literally billions of people, even if the government went pure dictatorship, it probably couldn’t get full control over perverse market forces and just random individual actions
Also the last thing China needs is more authoritarianism

Definitely not a knock on all Chinese people. I just despise litter and lack of respect for out environment

I feel the same way around the holidays.

I have about 2 hours tops of being social before I am ready to call it quits. It’s exhausting.

Chinese people definitely litter, and with 1 billion of them, every piece adds up. Fortunately, government propaganda has actually seemed to help, particularly in the countryside

It comes from lack of private property ownership. People take care of their own stuff and sue the crap out of people who screw their stuff up.

It has zero to do with Chinese society; it’s the government.

Absolutely. But isn’t the govt made up of Chinese people?:grimacing:
