Am I going to tell him that? Absolutely the fuck not. He can have his upvotes and stay weak.

Reddit sucks man … it just rewards popular opinion for the sake of honest discussion and growth … best to take anything on that site with enough salt to kill a blue whale

You should see my 315x1 deadlift, lol.

Yeah, your back could be better, but it wasn’t bad. Nice work.

I, too, have been unconscious during the majority of my training.

How do I get a job as an unconscious bias trainer? Being an Ancient Astronaut Theorist isn’t panning out like I hoped.

  1. Purchase a master’s in psychology from the University of American Somoa for $50.

  2. Lecture people for the inner workings of their subconscious. Make sure they feel really guilty about it, as if they chose how their subconscious operates. Try to act superior and woke, like you’re the first person with the self awareness to learn this stuff.

  3. Profit.

Ahhh, good old reprogramming.

In a training session I attended, where all discussion ā€œstays in these wallsā€, we were presented a scenario where someone makes a once off, one line joke which is sexual in nature - no swearing, not vulgar. It caused offence to a female worker who was part of the conversation. When the person found out, they immediately apologise to the offended female. We then discuss whether it matters if the person intended to cause offence.

To which I answered, of course it matters (technically, I said ā€œof course it matters… uuum or at least it doesn’t not matterā€) - because I’m not a psychopath. Turns out I was wrong and someone making a one liner in bad taste and immediately acknowledging and apologising is exactly the same as someone making a comment where their primary intension is to cause distress.

After this, I seem to be pulled into all these kinds of training sessions - by coincidence…

I had to do IRB training last month. At least for me it was online and I was getting paid to do it… still sucked… Can’t imagine what you have to sit through

There is no room for deontology. Don’t be basic.

Someone has been in the car with screaming kids for an hour, turns around to tell Timmy to stop pulling Jenny’s hair. In that moment, they take their eyes off the road for a second, only to hear a thump and see a dead body on the road.

I hope to live in a world where this person is punished to the same degree as someone who gets into an argument with someone over the last newspaper. Returns to their home, grabs a gun and kills the newspaper hoarder in cold blood.

You already live in that world: our punishment is freedom.

Terrible, terrible freedom.

To which you say: "I’m not a child. This is not an exact science. Don’t spit in my face and tell me it’s raining - I see a clear distinction between someone making a joke with no intent to offend and someone doing so maliciously to make someone feel bad. In the first case, the person making the joke does not seek to illicit any negative emotion. In the 2nd, the joker does. See, a logical, clear difference.

'The issue isn’t whether there was intent. The issue is can you prove it. If not, you’re just trying to control how people think, which is a larger issue … don’t you think?"

And now, you’ve put this asshole as the one being in the wrong. Or put yourself on a ā€œlistā€ … either way…

We had something very similar and we used ā€œVegas rulesā€ as well.

Ridiculous.

*Oh, and I almost forgot, one of the presenters let us know their pronouns. I’m pretty sure I was noticeably shaking my head.
