Things That Piss You Off

You’re good, dude. Just see it as a life lesson.

By far, the best vegetable on the planet.

That looks like a diner? Or some kind of sit down place? Did they bring you a glass and you kindly waved it away while saying “I’ll just have the bottle, thanks”?

It is a diner. It’s byob. I did indeed drink the whiskey out of a cup, not the bottle, lol.

Lawyer question for you- since Harvard is private, why don’t they get the same protection to discriminate like any other private club? They don’t (fucking better not with that endowment) receive public funds, so can’t they do what they want?

@tlgains
It’s all cool. I wasn’t taking any of it seriously anyways. I thought you were just having some fun

Any civilized man knows to not drink 4R out of the bottle. That’s sippin whisky man … especially small batch

It’s a good one for sure. I compete on Saturday, otherwise I’m sure I would have had a few more glasses of it.

BOL on Saturday brother … it’s been a while since I poured a glass of bourbon … my usual go to is Bookers but it’s been scarce lately … Four Roses is a fine substitute however…might have to pick up a bottle soon

This discussion is making me crave some Templeton Rye or Eagle Rare.

If you haven’t had the chance to try Templeton (a great Rye out of Iowa), it’s worth trying get your hands on.

I’ve had ER on a few occasions and have only heard good things about Templeton … I haven’t had Bourbon or Rye in some time … but seeing that picture of the 4R makes me want to go out and get something

Because the take Federal money and federal student loans they lose the right of free association.

As an Asian, I can’t help but get a bit indignant. I obviously don’t know enough to judge whether or not Harvard is intentionally discriminating (we’re learning a lot about unconscious bias in my psych class); however, I’d honestly just be happy if they were more transparent about the admissions process.

Case in point: Two of my friends (both Asian females), who had lower grades, a less “rigorous” courseload (on paper), less awards and leadership got into Brown and I didn’t. I even had pretty regular communication with a professor there. I’m not salty or anything since CMU is a dream, but I am very confused

The way a first pass on admissions works (I was on an admissions committee at Harvard while in law school) is pretty simple: They have a formula that is something like .7(total SAT) + .3 (GPA) + bonus for sport to get a number.

Asians have to get something like 105% of the cut off for whites (same as it used to be for Jews) to have their package even read.

Hispanics have to get 80% to have their package read.

Blacks 70%

Etc.

I made these numbers up, but that’s how it works. The exact figures are in articles about the lawsuit.

There’s no “implicit” bias. It’s explicit. Asians have to have better scores than whites, who have to be far better than Hispanics and Blacks.

FWIW, she’s an Obama appointee. You would think she’d be more in tune with how racist this is.

Damn, OK. I’ll be sure to inform my brother about this… As an Asian Male, he’s going to need all the help he can get

Congratulations, you are the new Jews.

It’s going to go to the US Supreme Court eventually. Hopefully, they will destroy all this.

How are the essays read/rated?
I heard that process is as subjective as it gets

hmm no wonder my mom likes Jews so much.

I will keep wrestling then :joy:

Thanks! I had asked for a rough recipe before the thread got shut down. Wasn’t aware it was just “no beans”, despite how obvious that sounds. The beans are so central to the taste of the chili I’m used to, probably a sign that the meat is sub-par.

I’ve only tried it once in the 5 years I’ve been in VA and I wasn’t a fan. Perhaps I should give it another go. Could never get into grits or sausage gravy either. I’m a filthy yank, apparently.

Also, Four Roses is great.
