“The (insert giant chain) gym that I used to go to in (insert large town/city) charged less!”
Yeah…no shit? haha

I studied statistics as an undergrad at CMU, then got a Master’s in applied stats from Pitt and a doctoral degree in epidemiology (also from Pitt). I’m a professor in the medical school, with my research focus on the design, conduct, and analysis of clinical trials.
Sadly, no. I’m not very familiar with the powerlifting scene in the area. Carnegie Mellon has a brand new, very nice gym so you should be able to get decent workouts in on campus (and it’s free, so that’s nice). There are not really any powerlifting-friendly gyms within walking distance of campus; there are only a few gyms, period. I worked out at a CrossFit gym for about a year as an open-gym-only member because I wanted a place where I could deadlift without getting the side-eye or people asking me not to use chalk.
The best gym in the greater Pittsburgh area that I know of is a weightlifting gym in Bridgeville, but that might as well be on the moon as far as an undergraduate student is concerned (even if you have a car on campus, that’s at least a 30 minute drive from CMU, maybe as long as 45-60 depending on traffic and time of day). My honest advice would be to work out in the gym on campus (again: it’s free), and if you do really want to put some money into your powerlifting, spend it on an online coach that can review video of your lifts and help with programming. That will be easier to fit into your new life as a college student than spending an hour plus commuting to a gym where you have decent equipment and a true powerlifting coach.
Wow! I guess all those BS claims in the fitness industry are useless on you then
Yeah, I’m pretty excited about that
This is the problem. My parents don’t trust online coaches and refuse to let me get one. It’s okay though because I did a bit of research and CMU has a powerlifting club. I’m sure there will be plenty of people who are a lot stronger and know a lot more than me who can help.
Food Hacks. Do any of these ever work?
I tried to juice a lemon using a Food Hack today and I got half a drop and a forearm cramp out of it.
How everything is called a “hack” even if it’s like “eat before going to the movies so you wont want as many overpriced concessions”
Could’ve been a dry ass lemon … I don’t know what the ‘hack’ suggests but I get usually between 1/4 and 1/2 cup pretty lemon just squeezing with my hands
I have had some dry ones that produce like a teaspoon or less
Roll the lemon on a hard surface, pressing down on it.
Punch a hole in it with a skewer.
Squeeze and juice will come out through the hole without having to cut it open.
Coughing fits from choking on something like water
I’ve tried that before, the lemon ended up exploding and squirting me. Some of it got pretty close to my eye, so I decided to rub it off with my hands… conveniently covered in lemon juice.
Now that pisses me off!
Just cut it in half and juice with a spoon. Were you’re prior juicing experiences not good enough? Haha
I usually use the juice of half a lemon, leaving half a lemon to dry up and become fairly nasty.
I’ll probably just squeeze out the entire lemon and store the remaining juice in a jar. I don’t know why I hadn’t considered this until now lol
My unsolicited advice is to make ice cubes with lemon juice if you are drinking it. It’ll keep better. Or freeze the jar of lemon juice, and when you need some juice, nuke it for 5 seconds and pour out the little bit that has melted.
Or you can be like me and but lemons to juice but put it off until it’s dry like an AA meeting
Genius!
woah, what happened?
Fitness Youtubers who title their 30min video promising info, then spend 20+min vlogging their life- the problem is that the ppl I watch actually give good tips
Debris got under my contact lens and embedded in my cornea. Gonna be wearing glasses for a long time lol.
Hang nails
Why do they hurt so much. Sometimes they get caught on something and the skin pulls back.
Your neighbors complaining about fireworks and scared dogs too?
