Random acts of kindness - EX:

Huntsville, AL
I saw an old guy thumbing a ride from an on-ramp. He looked to be around 60 years old was thin framed, clean, groomed and looked harmless. I turned around at the next cross street and picked him up. He was working his way from Florida to Memphis so as to live with/near his Family - his daugher I believe. He didn’t ask for me to take him any set distance or for any money. I knew of a truckstop/restaurant, with a giant chicken out front, that was about 1/2 the way to Nashville. I figured that by taking the old guy there, he could catch a ride with one of the truckers to Nashville and then maybe another ride to Memphis.

During the drive, we chatted. The guy’s name turned out to be Bob. He had stayed the night before in Huntsville at some sort of shelter. That gave him a place to sleep, a place to shower and I think maybe a light breakfast. Bob seemed to be above average intelligence, was well spoken and a very pleasant person.

Upon arriving at the truck stop, I fueled the Pathfinder. Then I encouraged Bob to join me in the restaurant. I knew this place had some really good “home cookin”. Bob seemed sheepish and/or a little uneasy about entering the restaurant and getting a booth but he obliged out of politeness. After we were seated and given menus, I told Bob to order whatever he liked - the meal was on me. The daily special was GOOD. The pintos and cornbread were VERY good. Bob asked for extra cornbread. You could just tell the pleasure he was getting from a simple meal. You could also tell he was really hungry.

Bob thanked me for the meal and revealed that he had not planed to eat until about nightfall. He only had about $2.50 left. Intuition had served me well.

As I was driving away from the truck-stop, Bob was getting situated on the on-ramp to start the next leg of his trip and we waved to each other.

I hope he had a good trip.

Every time I think of Bob, it really warms my heart.

Glad you like “Olga and Helga”! heehee…

The moment…

That time when you are just out there doing whatever, walking to the store on a beautiful day, driving down the high way at night singing along to your favourite song, laying there with your child (or one of my nieces/nephews) on your chest sleeping…when the moment actually lasts and everything is just perferct for that moment, nothing matters not even the moment, it’s just perfect…

Good points mate.

There is nothing better than my 1 year old giving me a cuddle and patting me on the back haha.

Also love going for a drive on a nice summer’s morning and just enjoying some tunes and checkin out the local hotties

Great thread by the way

About once a month I let myself go and eat large pizza, 20 wings, a bacon cheese burger, and drink a 2 liter bottle of diet coke.

For that hour or so that I am eating just makes me so happy. The food just tastes so good.

Babe I met a few weeks back. She’s beautiful & quick as a whip… intelligent.

My dogs, my life. And that 70’s show. Also, whenever I see Kramer I get a really big smile. Hhahhaa.

When I have about a 1/3 of a years pay tucked away in the bank so that when I move to university this weekend i have time to find a much better job then the one I have got.

Having a girlfriend that takes me out for dinner and a movie once and a while, and then still feels like loving on me.

Being the only man on the crew that can take an 8 pound sledge and hold it straight out in front of me, and lever the head down and touching my nose, while the foreman just about busts his nose.

Finding a monday night class when I needed a monday night class to get 15 hours in.

Grandparents writing the check for the first two months rent on my new apartment.

I have the urge to listen to Mary Chapin Carpenters song “I feel Lucky” over and over again.

Thanks man, glad you can relate. Too many people forget to actually “live”. People spend 90% of their time thinking about what to do in the future, or what did before, reprecussions etc. Sometimes you just gotta stop and just “live” just feel it out, look around you and don’t treat everything so transparent…it’s a great thing I learned from my father, just walking with him, i’d ask him what certain plants and flowers were, what different trees…different cars I see, you’ll be truly happy when you can learn to absorb your enviornment and live it…forget what you have to do, or did…just live it in the moment and love it alive.
