I think it looks good for those who know what they are looking for.

Let the short spannners keep clicking.

I like the green too. It looks like money.

Really?

Bastards.

I’m not using it as my ‘slogan’, though.

Okay so I have to throw out a question to keep the discussion going.

Is someone that is picky enough to decide on a coach in 30 seconds really going to want to pay anything more than an e-diets membership fee?

Someone who only looks at a fitness website for 30 seconds is likely cheap and won’t know what the difference is, nor care for the difference, in a high quality investment or a $19 cookie program.

Regardless I think the thoughts are good and should be considered… just wondering thoughts on how the site interests specific groups

Interesting point. But you also have to factor in how you market your site. If you’re taking out an ad in the local newspaper to mention your site, then yes, you should expect the soccer moms and blank-slate average Joe’s to be cheap.

But if you position yourself in the industry, like Young Nate seems to be doing (on reputable forums, magazines, etc.), and if you actively seek semi-informed prospects or people that have half-a-clue from the beginning, then you can expect different results. Did that make any sense?

I too thought that the site looks kinda amateurish.

Re-read CaliforniaLaw’s post several times. The biggest mistake I see on the page is the embedded frame, it reeks of “this is my first webpage”.

I don’t know who designed the site, but you may want to consider paying someone whose been at it a while to make one for you. Having said that, I have been at this a while. Kidding. But not about the first part.

Also, If you have any clients before/after photos those would be a great interest to potential clients. With their consent, you should get those on the site.

Great job on getting started though. You wanted to get going in the fitness industry and you are well on your way. Congrats Nate.

Actually, my long-time friend is helping me out.

He’s a damn good designer, in my opinion. However, I kind of threw him for a loop with this one.

Most of his sites are for punk rock bands and far more ‘edgier’. For instance, check out the one he’s building for his band:

We’ve done some talking, though, and think we can take some of these suggestions and really nail it.

Thanks again.

speaking of edgier and punk rock, make sure your site is nothing like John Davies, that thing is a mess! It looks like my closet, shit everywhere.

Methinks your site is green because your name is Nate Green…

Maybe it would be enough if your site was more conventional but your logo remains an explosion of green against a darker background?

Right now it is kind of lost in a sea of green…

This is a good point. My post was too harsh but I’m not good at being soft. Yeah, the website needs A LOT of work, but at least you’re out there banging away. Not sitting around talking about what you want to do - but actually doing it. That means so much more and will lead to greater success than what some website looks like!

Hey Nate, congratulations on your success and now with your own web page. I’ve been reading from this site for some time now and I have also read your threads. This is my first post and I would like to share some of my opinions. I’m not an expert or a now-it-all-person, but I just graduated with degree in Computer Science and I hope I can help.

About your web page, I know you probably just started it and I see alot of good things. I really like your logo first of all, I think a good logo is important in any web page. Your newsletter is also a good idea. The quotes by Lou Schuler and Alwyn Cosgrove just reinforces the knowledge you have as a trainer. Each link in the home page also contains very good information.

I also looked into the source code of your web page and I think it needs little improvement. This is no disrespect to the person(s) who created your web page. I also looked at http://www.ennuidesign.com/ , the person(s) who created your web page and they design some good web pages for bands. You have alot of good information, but somehow, it is spread out too much where the person visiting your site might have a hard time following or just getting frustrated and leaving.

For example, I also agree that having a scrolling table is really not necessary because there is not alot of information there that might make your home page too long for people visiting and then having to scroll all the way to the botton. I also think Lou Shuler’s quote is out of place, move it somewhere near the other qoute. The home page links could use some improvements, changing their location, making them bigger, or simply changing the font color can help. I would also consider the location of the phrase “have you had the Nate Green experience”. I am thinking that you really want readers to see it, which is good because I also like the phrase, but the font, color, text alignment is just not doing it for me.

I think the home page is very important to any web site because visitors will just have a feeling of continuing to browse or leaving.

I also agree that looking at other web pages that are similar to yours is a great way to get ideas for your web page. I looked into Dr. John Berardi, Eric Cressey, and Alwyn Cosgrove and noticed how neatly and organized their sites look. One very important thing to consider is don’t forget to register your web page to search engines. For example, I googled and used yahoo to search Dr. John Berardi, Eric Cressey, and Alwyn Cosgrove and the first thing that came up were their web sites. I googled your name, but you were the fifth to appear in a T-Nation article. Look into METADATA or the element to provide information to the search engines. Adding a photo gallery can be a good idea also.

Overal, congratulations once again with your success and your web page. I wish you the best luck with you and your web page.

Jet

Your post wasn’t offensive, my friend.

I actually found it very helpful and insightful.

Thanks again.

That’s some solid advice, man. Thanks.

-Nate

Slightly off-topic, but you are aware the Ennui is French for Boredom?

Hey Nate,
You already got some good advice here, and I agree with a lot of it, so there’s not much more I can add. Maybe more performance photos of yourself (deadlifting, benching…)?

I just wanted to say congrats on taking another step in the right direction.

It’s good to see you getting a few articles here and there, and going forward with training others.

Your clients are going to be lucky to have you train them.

Seriously.

The very little Internet Explorer add-on called Enough could be of help: Resources: Enough is Enough!

www.2advanced.com

or

http://www.fantasy-interactive.com/

These guys are the best in the business for website design and implementation.

2advanced does sites for the likes of Ford, ESPN, Fox, Motorala, etc.

Fantasy Interactive does sites for AOL, Xbox, etc.

Prices may be a bit steep but I’m sure you can recoup it easily.

Damn, I don’t think he needs to pay high prices for an over-complicated website. It just needs to look a bit cleaner and modern IMO.

Nate, I can help out if you’d like - free of charge. PM me if you want.

I wish you the best of luck.
