The Wicker Man...with Nick Cage?

Just saw the briefest bit of an ad for a new version of The Wicker Man, with Nick Cage in the lead role.

Anyone seen or heard more on this?

I’m not sure what to think. I just hope they don’t do a Hollywood puss-out on the ending like they did on the remake of Get Carter.

From what I understand its pussy’fied tremendously. Its being raped a great deal.

The original was an awesome piece of film making, especially considering the times. I don’t think I’ll see this remake, I’d probably get too annoyed.

And how, oh how can they remake the lustful dance scene with Britt Eckland!? I don’t think that can be done.

Here’s a short page with some interesting facts about the film (like Cristopher Lee doing it for free because they couldn’t afford his usual salary):

I’ve never even heard of this movie and I thought I was pretty up on horror movies. If they can do a decent (in my opinion better) remake of Dawn of The Dead, I will give them the benefit of the doubt on this. Not all remakes are wastes of film.

This movie is rated PG-13 the original was R mostly becaues of a few, the ending especially, disturbing scenes. The ending is disturbing for some and from what I read its hollywood’ed up. I havent read any screenings of it though and could be just rumors.

I did just read something that supposidly is from the director. Slightly spoilerish.

The ending to the wicker man is probably the second most disturbing ending I’ve seen in a film.

The first went to a french film that I have unfortunately forgot the name of. If anybody remembers, it ends up with the guy finding out what happened to his girlfriend (Im trying not to give away the ending.)

The original is awesome. It centers around Scottish folklore and paganism. It plays out like a “B” movie but has since developed a cult following due to the subject matter and the eerie way in which its approached. The remake with its big studio production is taking the Scottish element right out of it and throwing in some CGI basing the film in the Northeast and Canada.

The original writer has actually requested his name be removed from the new one. He’s not too happy with what they’ve done.
I’m interested to see where they’ve gone with this film but I’m not expecting it to be very comparable to the original.

And they remade that and destroyed the ending, correct?

I wasn’t aware of the remake of that one but the original is pretty good

I’m sporting a chubby just thinking about it.

Don’t forget Edward Woodward (TV’s The Equalizer) as the very Christian police inspector. He was most excellent.

I see the chance for many over-the-top Cageisms in the role — God (Gaia?) help us!

With Get Carter and The Vanishing, it seems the Brits don’t mind a movie with a downer ending.

Most Cheesy Hollywood Change to a Movie’s ending: Hitchcock’s The Birds. He wanted the ending to be them escaping from the little town only to find the Golden Gate Bridge covered with birds — that would kick everyon’e ass even now, but esp. then!

That would have been an absolutely awesome ending! I never knew that! Thats it, time for me to remake it the way it was supposed to be!

The wicker man is very old school.

I actually think the original is terrifying, with ist build up.

It will be interestin to see if hollywood avoids the normal hero wins ending, like the original.

I’ve seen more of the trailer since my last post and it actually looks pretty intriguing. It looks like they’ve expanded upon the feed-the-earth aspect of the “religion” the policeman encounters.

There’s some creepy CGI stuff that may give folks chia pet nightmares.

We’ll see…

The ending to the movie “Kids” was pretty disturbing in a non-violent way.

Thank you much, mostly for sporloos. Didn’t know there was a remake, but if the ending is lost then it seems like the whole movie would be.

I feel like I haven’t seen a decent suspense movie for a long , long time.

They better not screw it up.
