The Video Game Thread

I’ve been playing “The Long Dark”. It’s a different apocalypse than a virus (solar storm), so it still is a bit of escapism.

The last of us II has been delayed indefinitely… FUCK

Like the only video game I’ve been looking forward to (I don’t play video games anymore)

I remember playing it ages ago, was very tough. I heard there is story mode now.

The story mode is decent, and it helps introduce the game mechanics before throwing you in the deep end. However, I still died like 3 times before I figured basic things out. They added new regions and multiple difficulty modes once it left early access. I just really like the impressionistic art style of the game.

Not many PC gamers on here but I splurged on Total War: Three Kingdoms and all of the DLC.

It is super-polished and tons of fun, if those kind of historical battle and empire management games are your jam.

Total War is probably my favorite single player franchise right now.

I don’t have a gaming PC but my biggest regret with not owning one is missing out on the plethora of RTS style games they have. The options on consoles in that genre is always limited

I’m considering buying the remastered Command and Conquer package on Steam. I feel like it will run on my laptop just fine.

Final Fantasy VII re-make came out today.

But since my house is now a school, I don’t foresee myself getting much playtime.

I love the Total War franchise and have Three Kingdoms, but somehow I never really got into that one. Couldn’t even really tell you why.

I’ve spent large parts of this week playing Mount and Blade 2: Bannerlord in early access and even though it’s obviously not yet a finished and polished game, it’s been great. If the developers work a bit more on late-game features you could spend a lot of time on that one.

I’ve never played the original and have always wanted to. I’m probably going to wait until it’s cheaper since I have quite the backlog. Also wouldn’t mind waiting until it’s closer to the next episodes release. A lot of people “mad” about some story changes but I’m staying spoiler free and without playing the original won’t even know.

I haven’t played it but Persona 5 was universally praised and it has been added and expanded on with Persona 5 Royal. A lot of people saying it’s a contender for greatest JRPG of all time.

Did it first when I was 7 and remember beating the Shizo boss for my mom. So hyped I’m not even hyped anymore. It is still not shipped though so I am a bit mad

Anyone knows any good games that teach typing? I mean really good, the ones you wouldn’t mind playing yourself.

I don’t have any consoles at my place now, but before I moved I had access to the new Xbox. Once Covid related days off happened I beat Halo 5 in a day (skipped 4, whether that’s unfortunate or not). I played it on the standard level and it was friggin tough, no way I’d have gotten it done on “legendary”.

If you’re into zombies check out The Typing of the Dead.

Try Cook Serve Delicious. It looks like casual sort of game, you have to maintain orders in the restaurant. But you it can be played entirely on keyboard and it does a good job at making you remember where each key is.

I do love zombies but Typing of the Dead was too hard. There’s not much teaching there, they simply throw zombies at you and you’d better be good at typing.

I may check it out, how casual is it?

I only played first part and I’d say it’s a bit above your average casual game. For example it’s required to choose a menu and get upgrades for the kitchen.

PC Gamers can now download Total War Shogun 2 for free on Steam. Ends later this week. I’m about to fire it up!

Valorant is great. Like CounterStrike 1.6 and Overwatch had a baby. Low system requirements too, which doesn’t make much of a difference on my suped-the-fuck-up gaming laptop, but it sounds less like a jet engine when I’m running it, so there’s that.
