The "Vegans Are Sad" Article

Come on, quit being a sithhead.

Now had I said “generalizations NEVER ring true” that would be a generalization and false. I put the word “almost” before never.

Don’t filibuster the punchline dude.

I don’t know whether my post yesterday got pulled (for reasons unknown) when I quoted research that highlighted:

  • Journal of Affective Disorders: researchers found that vegetarian men were more likely, with an odds ratio of 1.71 (that is a 70% increased risk) to be depressed.
  • Study in Finland showed vegetarians are 3-4x more likely to experience SAD.
  • Analysis of more than 9,000 Australian vegetarian women found they had significantlty more mential health issues and were more likely to be on meds (Public Health Nutr. 2007 May;10(5):436-42.)
  • In a representative study of German adults, individuals who reported a vegetarian diet were more likely to be diagnosed with depressive, anxiety, somatoform, or eating disorders. (Int J Behav Nutr Phys Act. 2012;9:67)

I haven’t added all the citations but you get the jist. Of course, it is easy to cherry pick science but at least this should be enough to demonstrate some sort of correlation.

Maybe the mentally ill are more likely to be vegetarian??

That is quite a compelling set of points, but we’re joking about cow farts and calling each other names here.

Ain’t no science gonna stand up to the flame coming out that cow’s ass.

We’re all just very lucky that cows don’t have thumbs and can’t use lighters.

Also- whale farts.

Not! because when everything goes Vegan and people are still looking for the reason why their life sucks they will blame the Vegan foods.

Just because…

= O Malley to the moooon!..

John Berardi used to highly recommend exactly what they were saying- elk, bison, grass fed beef.

Yep I can imagine. -had grassfed/organic beef every day at fancy resort last summer, face leaned out and joints and mood def improved a little tick
Need to try elk.

There were a few years when the only red meat I ate was locally shot deer, and a couple of packs or ground beef here and there.

I did feel quite good and was in excellent shape. Hard to know how much to attribute to that, but I’m sure it was a factor.

Doesn’t he still? I mean, he’s gotten more lenient with his recommendations. He certainly has writings geared towards including the vegetarian and vegan crowd but the omnivore material still contains these, no?

It’s nice

I’d eat more local game, but even after all these years there’s still residue from Chernobyl in the ground and I’m two countries away from where it happened. Apparently has the greatest effect on wild boar, but it’s like the recommendations around tuna “Sure, have some, but not everyday”.

I’d honestly consider moving further down south in this country to have access to better and cheaper seafood speaking of things that are probably healthy.

One thing that really irks me is that it’s possible to get absolutely shafted in the grocery stores as some brands have figured out how lazy consumers are so they’ll label it with Swedish but the meat is from some far away place.

Random, disjointed, rants end here.

I dunno. I would assume so. He had a pretty solid position on them based in good, sound reasoning, so I doubt that would change much.

There’s that! It’s my understanding that a massive plume of radioactive material drifted your way which set off the alarms but they were staying tight lipped at Chernobyl.

I’d eat more but I don’t have a deep chest freezer like I used to. We have a massive herd of whitetail deer.

I really want one of the turkey that wobble around through the yard. There are tons of them, uncountable at this point. I’m only 40 feet from the county line, but the neighbor doesn’t allow hunting on his property.

Humans are made out of meat too. Meaty moist skeletons

Not well-educated enough to know that part of the story, but what little I do know of their politics during that time it wouldn’t surprise me if this was true. Regardless, I can’t imagine anything could have been done about it and the end result is nevertheless the same.

For the win

'Zackly!! That’s how the animals see us. So, eat them before they eat you…

I’ve been told I’m mentally ill a lot and I was vegetarian for a few years…guess it rings true
