Problem is, they lopsidedly oppose immigration enforcement measures. 79% oppose local law enforcement checking immigration status. 55% don’t even want status verification checked for driver licenses…50% say illegal immigrants have a POSITIVE impact. http://pewhispanic.org/files/reports/84.pdf
They aren’t going to vote Republican unless the platform becomes pretty much open border and non-enforcement.

That already is the party platform, and it hasn’t helped.

When you look at what Republicans have been able to get done (or even tried), it would appear to be so. However, the party is still associated with tough on illegal immigration conservatives, and they’re going to lose Hispanic voters over it. So, as the demographics continue to change, the issue will become a bigger and bigger liability, until it’s completely dumped.

I don’t think so. The longer immigrants stay in this country the more they dislike illegal immigration, particularly if they themselves came here legally. In fact, many of the Minutemen citizen boarder patrol are of Mexican decent.
Also, the stats on out of wedlock births are misleading. True, many have babies that are not married, but once that happens most get married. It is rare for a Mexican man to have a child and then leave the mother. Not many Mexican children grow up without a father around.

That was premature. If they lose this presidential election then they are on the way out.
