i also express my condolences to the victims. and regarding the attackers, yes many crimes deserve the death penalty, but, how can we know we got the right guy? anyway, police and civilians should not expedite their own thought up punishments however well deserved they feel it may be.
Thanks! I had a look and it is for Australian Special Forces but it’s set in the USA. Bit odd.
I’m going for an Air Defence Guard position, the basic training will be tough but not up to Special Forces standard, so I don’t think I will need anything too specialised.
The Air Force has actually told me there is a 6-12
month wait on the position so I’ve started up Muay Thai Training 4 days a week to increase my fitness and get some more fighting experience. Conditioning in the commercial gym was just driving me nuts.
Thanks again, keep up the good work.
This can’t be right…
Point taken, but MY thinking is that when a person does a heinous crime they should not make it in for questioning. Vigilante justice for terrorists anyone?
Let’s say a man’s wife or daughter is raped and killed. I’d have zero issues with the man taking the offender out cause I’d do the same thing.
These terrorists rape and kill, in this case kill, so anyone who witnessed it I think would have been justified in acting as judge, jury and executioner. Just my opinion though. Many are (I feel overly) concerned with “what if’s” and criminals’ “rights” to see it this way. I’m not one of them.
So from what they’ve told us, if a woman cant do a single pull-up, she may substitute push-ups. However, the max score for push-ups is still worth less than a single pull-up… so do some freaking pull-ups. Basically push ups replaced the flex arm hang. I dont know if men can choose to do push ups… none of us asked.
I’m shocked the standard for women is still different…![]()
A few definitions of “tactical”:
- relating to or constituting actions carefully planned to gain a specific military end.
- (of a person or their actions) showing adroit planning; aiming at an end beyond the immediate action.
Keywords: careful, planning
Key phrase: “beyond the immediate action”
In the context of how the attackers were caught & how long it took to catch them, your reply is far from tactical. Might as well just dip some bullets in pigs blood and shoot up anyone who “looks like an attacker”. What an un-tactical response.
Finally, interrogation can help stop future attacks.
Stay tactical my friend.
there is one big catch, what if you got the wrong guy? now, i am a structural analyst. i calculate stresses and stuff in things subject to some more or less known load. this isn’t an easy job. it takes several years to become good at it. and i always try and stay humble about my work, in case i have overlooked something.
i am quite sure that making the correct assessment of events that have transpired and who is guilty of what at times can be at least as difficult as my job. such judgments then should not be made in a haste by people untrained to make the assessment. to this end we have courts. of course, there might be cause to use violence in connection with say, and arresting, but that should be based on necessity.
i personally have 4 daughters, if anyone of them would be raped and or murdered, i am sure i would think several times of taking the guy out. but then, what if i got the wrong guy?

I doubt a guy who’s username assumingly means “Air Force Special Operations Command” is unfamiliar with what the word tactical means, lol…
Happy to see this thread. Been on T-Nation almost from the beginning, since it was Testosterone.net.
Nothing special about me, I bought a pistol when I turned 21, got my concealed carry permit when it became legal. Visited the range when I could, and finally realized one day that if I was ever assaulted by someone from 25 yards away who didn’t move, and I only fired one shot every two seconds, I would probably be okay. So I sought out training.
I’ve taken classes from some big name trainers. When asked why I spent so much money to train with these guys, my answer was that I wanted to learn from people who had been shot at and managed to survive. In all honesty, I didn’t really become a better shooter in any of those courses. What did happen was that I learned the mistakes I was making with my shooting, and I learned the drills I needed to practice to become better, then went home and practiced and got better. The first couple of courses I went on, I wasted the opportunity because I was so worried about not being the worst shooter there, I sabotaged my own learning because I was so focused on the outcome of the drill, instead of the process of it.
I eventually found a tactical range where I could work on the skills I had learned, could draw from the holster, rapid fire, reload, the works. A lot of former military folks and current law enforcement and EMT people shoot out there, so I’m constantly exposed to different mindsets and experiences.
Always looking to improve and learn. As I’ve gotten later and later into my 40’s, my physical conditioning has gotten more and more difficult to maintain, and various ailments have also downgraded my ability to train the way I did in my 20’s, so I have to train smarter, not harder.
Seems like he needed a reminder, though no disrespect intended. One cannot portray the “tactical life” then throw it all out the window when something gets their blood boiling, like a terrorist attack, rape, etc. That’s when mistakes happen, no? These are the moments that show our true colors. I personally side with people who are measured & patient, who don’t succumb to our more animal instincts of spur of the moment retaliation & violent rhetoric. For example, I identify more with bonoboschimp’s response to s_afsoc.
Finally, just because someone’s username means “Air Force Special Operations Command” doesn’t mean they don’t have their own personal agendas, beliefs, motivations etc. One could be the most decorated combat veteran and still fall victim to their own human instincts. The phrase “delaying such a sentence” is a large red flag to me, personally. I’d rather delay a sentence than get it wrong. I’d rather delay a sentence & leverage the individual to my advantage. His statement, in the context of the Barcelona attacks, did not seem very tactical at all. Honestly i’d be surprised if anyone were to try and support it as a tactical response.
peace
Well, I for one am sure glad you gave your expert opinion on such matters.
Ok it wasn’t a tactical response. It was personal philosophy combined with anger. My main point I was trying to make is that there had to be an able person who witnessed the attack, therefore proof of guilt, and I’d PERSONALLY lose any sense of tactical if it had to do with my family. I simply know myself and what my immediate response would be.
Does that mean I actually recommend it for LE or military responses? NOOOOO. But I’m no longer operational. I’m a civilian and wouldn’t be in an official capacity - just a citizen, therefore there would exist only the parameters of “acceptable” that I set for myself.
I am a little surprised that all involved responders maintained discipline though. We all get angry when innocent lives are taken, especially those whose life revolves around protecting them by all necessary means.
Summary: Not a tactical response. It’d be a personal response. And if I were in a tactical capacity around such a situation it’d take everything I had to not respond in that manner IF i witnessed a person terminating an innocent.
Truth. Been through this myself and you are wise man.
You never learn anything worth keeping unless you train with people better than you. That applies across the specturm. from martial arts to tactics.
Thats true regardless of age.
Really good post for all of us.
My apologies about stating that was for everyone, my only excuse was I was sitting in a hangar on the flight line and could not hear shit. I have seen it several times , as you know AFN recyles those military infomericals about every ten minutes, and, I get in a habit of tuning them out. Atlas13, thanks for clearing that up.
Thought for the day:
_“The test of a man isn’t what you think he’ll do. It’s what he actually does.” _

Well, in this case a woman. All my respect to the Spanish police officer who shot and killed FOUR Jihadist filth. The ability to remain calm, knowing you may be blown to shit by the suicide vests (fake or not, how do you know?) compartmentalize the shouts and knife waving, focus on the front sight, and execute a smooth trigger on four different POS. Remarkable.
For those looking for a moderate priced sling.
Well, I am in that no man’s land of “hurry up and wait”. I thought I would post some pictures to celebrate the death of four scum. When I was in KAF last year, a drone guy allowed me to write the names of several T-Nation Combat members on the missile that was going out that night. Hopefully, that was trhe last thing some scum saw before he was reduced to mist.
If I ever get the opportunity again, I will update
the names with current members, since, several of those guys are not around anymore.

Holy multiple moving targets batman -if see the vid of terrorist bodies they are faaar apart like 35+ feet apart( two were together). Phenomenal effort by that officer.
In all seriousness, the standards for women in the Marine Corp do baffle me a tad bit… I don’t see why pull ups are such a big deal for them. My girlfriend(19 turning 20, like me) who is currently serving in the Singapore army can do at least 10 strict pull ups on a bad day. Granted, she’s an anomaly among most of the girls(and guys) she’s met while serving but still, it shows that it can be done.
I would’ve thought the Marine Corp should have higher standards for their women. I believe there are now women infantrymen in the Marines. If anything, this worries me. Everyone should be put to the same standard, at least in combat roles, we can let them have their SJW shit in the logistical/supply roles where they’re inside the wire.
Furthermore on the topic of women in combat roles… My girlfriend is currently training to be an infanteer. As much as I try to support her in her endeavors, I find it incredibly hard to accept the fact that there are women in direct action combat roles. When shit hits the fan, I doubt most women in the military(or anywhere for a matter of fact) would be able to carry a grown ass man to safety, assuming he was shot in the leg or something. Am I being sexist or is it a valid concern? Pretty sure it’s a valid concern if you ask me.
