How long are you going to wait before you demand the best for yourself?—Epictetus
Repetition is the mother of learning, the father of action, which makes it the architect of accomplishment-Zig Ziglar
From RH:
From a young age my Dad didn’t teach me how to play sports, he taught me how to be a competitor. He taught me to shake an umpires hand at the end of a game even if they made bad calls. He told me to never blame a loss on anything but yourself because if you worked hard enough bad calls won’t effect the outcome. Most importantly it isn’t about winning, it’s about how you won.
The only thing wrong with championships is there is only one spot for a name at the top. If things were the way it should be there should be a spot for everyone that played a role in getting you there. I’ve said it before and it’s worth repeating, the individual effort is the smallest piece of the pie. The people that you surround yourself with are the ones that get you to the top.
I was hoping for a match.
Curious as to if there are stats on frequency of the car jackings, daylight robbery or assaults, etc.
They give me anxiety over my non observant wife or one leg mother being out in public, doing routine marketing or whatever.
Not that stats would diminish the danger, just curious.
I think it will vary based on location. Obviously, in the inner cities it’s a normal occurrence but sometimes it spills into the affluent areas near those cities. Especially if the car thieves are looking for luxury cars. My sister lives in a very affluent area in Florida and she had her car stolen by a certain group, who will remain nameless, that come into her community looking for nice cars to steal.
Memphis and Kip Raines?
Given that the actors who played them are of Italian descent, the answer is no.
I live in a rural area, about 110 miles north from a major metro area. Jackings have increased dramatically in the metro area, but, I am seeing an increase in all areas of the state from city to rural. Two days ago a person was shot and jacked in a town of less than 3 thousand. The primary locations seem to be gas stations, food stores and (strange as it is) parking lots for state parks and National forests. A man was returning from a trout fishing stream and was jacked by two guys, who took his truck. Nothing like going trout fishing these days for mental heath and relaxation.)))

Thought for the day:
“What’s different today (aside from technology) is how we view the debate. Our discourse has grown more poisonous because we now take offense as a course of action in itself. Being offended, being angry, being louder, or framing yourself, your party, or your candidate as the victim doesn’t equate to being right. Somewhere along the way, we stopped caring about that. In a grievance-based culture, we can live only in the past — citing perceived slights as reason enough to hate one another, and dying on political hills like martyrs for causes we have lost sight of in favor of the satisfaction we feel fighting strangers on the internet”.
Since I got my concealed carry permit, one place I always go armed are public river access locations. You’ve got a parking area, open to the public, that is out of sight and off the beaten path. The vast majority of such spots I have been to are accessed by gravel road, meaning you can hear vehicles approach long before you can see them, so if you’re up to no good you have plenty of time to hide the fact. A couple of my favorite spots are frequently littered with used condoms and drug paraphernalia.
On the other hand, I wouldn’t give up my time trout fishing for anything, and look forward to taking my daughter one day. But I will be armed, and travelling with a party of other adults.
The worst place in the Seattle area for car break ins are popular hiking and MTB trailheads. Usually out in meth/pillhead rural areas and all the other reasons you said. Cars are VERY rarely stolen, and never car jackings. A fairly popular strategy is to just leave nothing of value in the car and doors unlocked… At least you avoid a busted window.

Never a bad start to the day looking at different knives designs. I don’t a knife of this design, but, I can see where it could be extremely useful. If anyone has any practical experience, let me know. Thanks.
I’m going to watch this.
I’m curious if any of the cops are legit on the mats. My guess is that they’ll be going against “high”-level guys who are used to rolling completely stoned out of their gourds. I know several who fit that bill precisely. They’re mat monsters who will be totally safe to roll with for even the most aggressive and strong, comparatively un-trained cop I can imagine. You have to see it and feel it to really believe it.
The promoters are also offering police free tuition to blue belt, which is great. The Academy in Portland, Maine offers free training at all levels to any active-duty LEO at any agency, period. The head instructor has been offering that for almost a year now.
I hope that trend catches on.
Me and you both. I have to admit that is one unusual concept for a competition, buy, hey, if it brings in more cops, all the better.
Thought you might be interested in this. Officer’s body cam captures part of the takedown.
Great stuff. Good work by both officers on the takedowns caught on bodycam. I love all the stand-up going on at that BJJ school. Hip tosses to knee-on-belly to mount transitions. That’s called running the algorithm on an untrained chump.
On a related note, chokeholds are a cornerstone to producing safe outcomes with violent people. They should be trained by police departments, not banned by police departments. They should be encouraged by anyone concerned with improving use of force outcomes. You don’t even need to finish the choke. Gaining neck control alone can be adequate. Threat of choke will get many people to give up.

You are certainly not appreciated or thanked enough for your service.

I was off yesterday from work and decided to go trout fishing. Returning home, I came upon a very serious vehicle accident, one person went through the windshield and driver trapped and bleeding from a serious neck laceration. I was first on the scene and did what little I could . EMS arrived along with the local volunteer fire department (rural area). They extracted the driver, provided care to the passenger and handled everything in a highly professional manner. I know there are firefighters and EMT’s occasionally on this thread. All I can say is :Thank you for the life saving services you provide and thank you for putting your lives on the line everyday dealing with COVID. Total respect.

Never a more accurate statement for 2021:

This is what can happen when you can’t let stupid bullshit slide. Walking away from inconsequential bullshit would have prevented this outcome from ever being possible. Self defense 101, don’t start shit.
The elderly man had to make his point and the other guy had to make his too. Now the old man is dead and the assailant is facing a long prison sentence.
All over words, panning out this way because of a punch. You know, just a little fistfight.
