The Tactical Life

“You can never train too much for a job that can kill you.” It’s prominently displayed on the wall in the department gym as a reminder.

“Prepared”: well I’m more prepared than yesterday but tomorrow I’ll be more prepared than today. I think the mindset of being prepared can be tragic if it becomes a closed end state. I can always be a little stronger, faster, last longer or have evolved my tactics. Always be learning.

Three words to live by.

“I pinned his hips down, and I had shoulder pressure on his chin to keep him from turning in to me,” Albrecht said.

Good work by Mr. Albrecht, but note the disheartening words at the end of the video: Because the kid is 16, he was released to his parents without appearing before a judge. There will be no repercussions, and this behavior will be repeated, maybe with more serious consequences.

This post is not about CQB concerning vehicles. The next time you are in an urban environment (in this post COVID period) I want you to start examining parked vehicles from a terrain prospective. Just like looking at desert or mountain terrain, realize vehicles that are not in motion are just colorful rocks. If you were suddenly caught in an active shooter situation, realize that navigating those parked vehicles is critical. Take the time to look over stationary vehicles and visualize evading an attack. Whether it is limestone, sandstone, or colorful metal rocks, its terrain that has to be used to your advantage.

What makes vehicles a unique tactical consideration? The predictable location and orientation of them in our society which also includes time of day and special roadway requirements. If they are not in motion than vehicles are considered terrain and normal outdoor tactics are employed. Vehicles afford you concealment and an inconsistent level of ballistic protection up to and including cover, based on the weapon system employed against you.

Tactical Life is not a political thread. It exists to provide T-Nation members a place to share tactical , practical information. Doesn’t matter if you are SOF in combat, a martial arts instructor in Brazil, or an accountant in Norway, if you live long enough you learn how to survive your environment. All knowledge is valuable.

So, I am breaking my own rule here. If you are an American, your 1st and 2a rights are under severe attack. I am pissed off this morning because, I know a couple of people involved in this organization and know they have never, ever, preached sedition in their life. Yet they have been censored while filth is allowed to flourish. FaceBook, Instagram, and Twitter are becoming the Supreme Court, taking upon themselves to “police” our rights to free speech. Fuck them. End of rant, and I apologize for the rule breaking,

Something that came up yesterday:

Last year 228 cops committed suicide. On average 20 military members die by suicide on a daily basis. If you know someone and suspect them to be in pain, reach out. You don’t have to be a professional counselor to lend support. It just takes you to step up and that’s what we do here. Step up

This doesn’t just have to be a soldier. Any cop, firefighter, EMT can fall into this hole. Look out for your buddies, It can sneak up at anytime and shit adds up.

A Soldier with PTSD fell into a hole and couldn’t get out. When a SNCO walked by the Soldier called out for help, but the SNCO yelled back, “Suck it up son, dig deep and drive on,” then threw him a shovel. The Soldier did as he was told and dug that hole deeper.

A Senior Officer went by and the Soldier called out for help again. The Officer told him “use the tools your SNCO has given you”, then threw him a bucket. The Soldier used the tools and he dug the hole deeper still and filled the bucket.

A psychiatrist walked by. The Soldier called, “Help! I can’t get out!” so the psychiatrist gave him some drugs and said, "Take this. It will relieve the pain and you will forget about the hole.” The Soldier said “thanks” and followed his advice, but when the pills ran out he was still in the hole.

A well-known psychologist rode by and heard the Soldier’s cries for help. He stopped and asked, “How did you get there? Were you born there? Did your parents put you there? Tell me about yourself, it will alleviate your sense of loneliness.” So the Soldier talked with him for an hour, then the psychologist had to leave, but he said he’d be back next week. The Soldier thanked him, but he was still in the hole.

Another Soldier, just like him, happened to be passing by. The Soldier with PTSD cried out, “Hey, help me. I’m stuck in this hole!” and right away the other Soldier jumped down in there with him. The Soldier with PTSD started to panic and said, “What are you doing? Now we’re both stuck down here!” But the other Soldier just smiled and replied, “It’s okay, calm down brother. I’ve been here before… I know how to get out.” No matter what you’re going through, you are never alone.

DO NOT GIVE IN TO THE WAR WITHIN!

Don’t expect results from the work you didn’t do.

Every day you either get worse or you get better, you never stay the same.”

At the end of the day, you either get closer to your goal or further away.

Staying put is NOT an option. Somewhere out there is someone who wants what you have, and the gap between you and them is either going to get wider today or smaller.

*The question is: Who’s in the lead? You or them?

Also:

“Somewhere out there is someone who wants what you have”

The “holiday season” is around the corner which means a large increase in armed robberies. Grow an extra set of eyes when entering any retail establishment, especially convenience stores, gas stations, , fast food restaurants, and alcohol / liquor/ ABC stores.

A national disgrace.

New monument at Arlington National Cemetery honors women in military

A new monument honoring all military servicewomen has been unveiled at Arlington National Cemetery.

The life-size bronze sculpture, titled “The Pledge,” shows a woman in full combat uniform bonding with a service dog.

The monument, commissioned by the U.S. War Dogs Association, was unveiled on Saturday and is available for public viewing starting Sunday in an open house event. It is located at the Women In Military Service For America Memorial at the entrance of the cemetery.

Thou, this will probably seem elementary or juvenile to most of you on this thread, perhaps you have friends or family members that are not quite as aware as you. Yesterday, I was walking through the parking lot of a major food chain. I always park in the rear of the lot facing the entrance so I can walk toward the front of the business, scanning the parking area and entrance doors before entering.

During the walk, I passed three vehicles with all the information I needed to start tracking these owners down. School logos, church stickers, “kids on board” , high school football patches, “come see our Halloween decorations at our sub-division stickers” including the street name. My favorite? “Glock on board” surrounded by Ruger stickers. Wonder if that vehicle had a gun somewhere? Look, I know you are proud of your kids, love your life, and own a gun, but, use a little common sense. Why allow your family to be at risk? Predators are out there in the flesh , it only takes one act of violence to change your life or your family’s lives forever.

Yep. Unfortunately our messages about awareness can fall on deaf ears until something bad happens. It’s a cliche, but everyone thinks “It won’t happen to me.” Until it does.

I used to post about police officers being killed in the line of duty when I first started this thread. After about a year, I stopped because so many were being killed, that was all that was be on this thread. Not fair to people here because this thread’s purpose is about tactical skills and tactical thinking.

But, I cannot let this one slide. Sergeant Preston had served his community for 41 years! How many here have dedicated themselves or know someone who has followed the discipline required to serve for so long? He was shot to death by an illegal alien with an extensive criminal record. A complete failure of our criminal justice system and border security. And the sad part? I honestly believe that a section of American could give a shit less.

I salute Sgt. Preston for his service. My sincere condolences to his family and the Houston Police Department.

Some thoughts from Mike Pannone:

Sergeant Harold Lloyd Preston
Houston Police Department

End of Watch: October 20th, 2020

HPD Academy Class: 86
Years of Service: 41

HIS LIFE F#€%ING MATTERED !!!

I am thoroughly and completely outraged by this and every other attack on all law enforcement!

All decent folks should be angry and your response should be to support officers every chance you get. When you see one, thank him or her. They need to know we are with them. The “silent majority” needs to stop being silent!!! Get involved, vote, actively support and volunteer … this time they need us as backup!!!

We have normalized violence against Police and in doing so we have degraded their ability to keep us safe and the society livable. Small but vocal and organized elements have enabled the criminals while maligning Police officers and Police departments everywhere. This is not the world I want to live in … or any reasonable and decent person wants to live in.

RIP Sgt Preston.

Each man must make his own decision in dangerous circumstance, but this person is laudable to me. From a local report -

“A good Samaritan who was nearby heard the gunshots and assisted with helping pull the wounded officers out of the line of fire.”

I agree with you, damn brave of him or her.

Update:

Prosecutors to seek death penalty for man accused of fatally shooting Houston sergeant

Preston was a 41-year veteran of the Houston Police Department and was set to retire in two weeks, KHOU reported.

I am posting a couple of IG vids. I am not approving or criticizing the techniques used. You can study them and decide if they work for you or not. However you train, schedule some time to train in an everyday environment. I have seen numerous examples in KM and defensive shooting classes. Take the student off of the training floor or out of a indoor shooting range and they have to adjust to the surroundings. The chances of being violently attacked by street predators in a martial arts school are slim, same as being attacked in an indoor shooting range. Add some outside realism to your training.

Before watching first vid, l thought to myself - l would hate to be getting an ass-whupping from a guy with a man bun. Then realized it would be coming from a woman. :grinning:

I watched a couple of videos in the past, where the trainer was working both gun and knife. Did not save, but would appreciate link if someone here posted it. It would definitely up gun retention capability. Curious if it would benefit in the 21’ scenario of gun vs knife.

I checked my list this morning and I don’t have one with someone working with both a gun and knife. Maybe someone on here has one. I do have this basic knife drill:

People that have never been shot at really do believe that one ruggedly handsome ex SEAL Team Delta operator turned Secret Service Sniper/ Hand to Hand expert/ hacker can do it all himself, and that they just might have the same luck. And its suicide to try.

Anyone of us that has seen the elephant knows better, and we have a duty to help those that have not in this instance. Ask any SWAT team member if he is willing to make entry by himself. Ask a Combat Veteran what he thinks his odds are running the streets of Baghdad circa 2007 with his lonesome little gun and witty comebacks. We know that our teammates are combat multipliers, and two is exponentially more than one.

I have watched up to the point to where the pay course starts, guy is funny and seems to have tried to qualify various knife defense. Anyone hear of this course?
