Checking in. Winter is slowing going away and that means more outdoor PT. On the nicer days I’ve been doing workouts from the bed of my truck Pat Mac style. I love training like this and I’m keeping it for as long as I can. A few bands, KBs, sandbags and other implements are all you really need for a great training session. Cant wait to take this mobile gym beachside or out in the woods.
@SkyzykS Correct me if I’m wrong, but you are a metal fabricator of sorts? How big of a job would it be to have a local guy fab up a dip/pullup bar that goes into my hitch receiver? I’d want it protruding enough so I could have the tailgate down with it installed. Plan is to put a bottle jack under the hitch for stability.
There is currently an active shooter situation developing in the Canadian province of Nova Scotia.
The vague details at this point indicate several injuries and maybe no deaths. More recent word is that the suspect went from impersonating a police officer and driving a similar car, to switching to an SUV.
Idaho a while back mentioned to not forget about the possibility of something like this occurring.
Not very big. It depends mostly on how busy the guy is. The more you flesh it out with dimensions and locations of things (where the dip bars are, how wide) and less sophisticated the shapes are (less math, machining, materials) the better.
Some guys get hung up on the technicalities too. So long as he’s sure it’s for personal use, non structural, non-DOT it should be all good.
Two shops I worked in were the go-to for the townships, and that helps a lot towards establishing a relationship and doing a quick one off for so-and-so’s buddy (you), and phrases like “so, what’s your favorite beer/whiskey?” might ensure completion by Friday afternoon rather than “some time next year…” .
Also, Neat idea. It took me a second to wrap my head around, then !!! Nice.
It’s interesting. The former poster Chushin and a friend of mine both have the same lineage in akido, or as Chushin would correct me- akijitsu-the more brutal and devastating (direct and to the point) version. My understanding is that if it ends in “do” its a watered-down American sport fighting/belt salesman version of the original more effective martial art.
Experientially, I’m just my buddies practice dummy that knows how to move. My go to’s are based in wrestling and striking. But I have observed through many practice dummy sessions that all of their moves are very efficient and designed to end it immediately.
But yeah, I agree with your boxing coach too. Sushi is nice, but I’m a meat and potatoes guy.
Haha, thanks for the advice. I’m going to contact a guy who built a bomb proof utility trailer for me a few years ago. See if he will take the job. I’m going to show him some pics of the Rogue dip bars that attach to a rack. The chin bar will be pretty easy to explain.
I’ll let you know how it goes and post pics if it pans out.
Rest in peace, sister, you gave 23 years. Your end of watch will not be the end of your memory for those who you served with, and those that loved you.
My SOG Fling came in yesterday and they’re a lot of fun. It is three quality pieces of steel but I’m glad I didn’t spend any more on throwing knives. I have no idea if these are good throwing knives or not, but they “work”.I’m not about to swap out my S&W Shield in 9mm for a three-pack of throwing knives, but it turns out that throwing knives is a lot of fun.
On my next car camping trip is when I’ll play around with making a spear out of one, which also seems like it could be fun to throw. Whenever this remote work ends I’ll take them to our blade sharpener to get an edge put on more of the steel. Right now only about 1cm of the blade is sharpened on each side of the point. Fine for sticking into a tree. Probably a lot safer to use that way too, but why have a dangerous toy that’s safer than it needs to be?
I own a couple and they are fun to play with, mine are not very durable (cheap) and I am not very good, don’t practice enough. I am better with a 'hawk.
Spears are really fun to use and require a good smooth release. I have made several that worked ok within 6 to 10 feet. I have always wanted to hunt feral hogs with one and bought this from Cold Steel. Haven’t gotten close to a hog since I bought it, you really need a good pack of boar hounds to get close.
Interesting you mention paracord, I found something new recently (at least to me). Like most guys on here I would guess, I’ve been messing with paracord (or 550 cord) since I was a kid. And every piece I’ve ever handled was a woven sheath containing seven inner strands. Then the other day I pulled the core out of some paracord someone had (forget what I was doing or whose it was), but instead of being the 7 separate strands I was used to, it more closely resembled the guts of a larger diameter kernmantle rope (such as for climbing or rappelling). First time I’ve ever seen that, makes me wonder if the tensile strength is the same or similar to the original stranded core.
