Damn right he is.

and this one is SUPER gangsta - YouTube

His manner of speaking came from the street. So what? I like the music and it’s got more to it than the shit you seem to listen to.
I just laugh every time I see someone acting “gangsta” or trying to be hood
I know this is off topic but still its amusing to me.

oh and about fashion I saw the oddest thing a couple weeks ago.

when I was a kid the big thing was dickies with creases and chuck taylors and ben davis jackets

well in 5th grade my mom finaly saved up enough money to buy me a pair of chucks, couple weeks later I washed them.
that messed them up they were black but they turned greyish yellow and the white parts got scuffed and black looking.
I bitched and moaned and complained cause I was walking around with some messed up shoes and I didnt have another pair and my mom wasnt bout to buy me another pair it was either shoes or my family eating.

well the other day I am in buying a pair of shoes for the gym and I see these ugly faded torn up chucks that looked like the ones that I was embarrassed to wear back in the day.
to top it off they were actually 10 dollars more to buy them that way.

You followed the links, right? That was hardly “gangsta”.

about lupe…

“go go gadget flow” was awesome off the cool. dude goes off
Sick song. “Hip-Hop Saved My Life” was pretty good too.

i didnt really like The Cool. only a couple tracks really, and i didnt like how Matthew Santos is on every song either. im hoping the album will grow on me but as of now i think Food & Liquor is way better

The “Swag” always meant “shitty weed” to me.

Probably because it’s not new. I like Lupe, but he’s not that witty or clever. And he’s not doing anything that hasn’t been heard before.

But he is different than what’s popular now and that’s refreshing. He’s a breath of fresh air in the currently south dominated rap industry. But I, as well as many others, can see the ATCQ comparison. Imagine Phife rapping over some Kanye-style production and you have something pretty close Lupe. Personally, Lupe reminds more of Tha Alkoholiks or, and you’ll probably hate this comparison, Young MC. I don’t see the Sage Francis comparison, and I was compared to Sage, I would take that as an insult.

Also, for someone who likes to put down “backpack” rap, Lupe is pretty damn close to being backpack.

Anyway, I like Lupe Fiasco. I’d rather listen to his worst song before I would listen to “Laffy Taffy” or “Chains Hang Low.”

i dont see the Alkaholiks comparison either, bro. I can see how Lupe is a little backpack but he does make chart songs and he doesnt make every other song about some government conspiracy, true he can rhyme politically but he also makes some good songs. its kinda like Kanye although i think Lupe in terms of lyricism and wordplay is beyond him (which doesnt mean hes a better rapper) anyway Kanye can also make really catchy songs and make very creative music but at the same time he can make a serious song, like Jesus Walks, Blood Diamonds and he can do hiph-op/backpack too lets not forget the songs he did with Rhymefest and Dialated Peoples.

sage francis, cunnyinglinguists, or any of these other guys cant do that shit. theyre one dimensional which is what keeps them down there, they can say they want to be mainstream or whatever all they want but who likes living in debt? Lupe could kill any of these dudes on their own shit and go out and write a chart topping song the next day. im not even trying to ddefend the guy like that im just trying to say hes versatile and witty and i think hes more the poster boy for the Swag scene (hip-hop/skateboarding blend) than he is for backpack rap.
I’ll give it up: I like Lupe Fiasco. But he’s not a better lyricist than those I mentioned. He’s just not, there’s no way around it. And, in all honesty part of the reason he sounds as “refreshing” as he does is he’s rapping around no talent clowns, like Kanye West or lil wayne, people who sometimes don’t even use REAL WORDS to complete a rhyme. The shit West did with dialated was weak. Their best album was the platform.

I’m assuming you’re younger [14-17] so this is your era. I can respect that, but you gotta understand my era was the golden age of rap, and point blank there is no comparison from the rappers of the late 80’s-mid 90’s to the garbage that tops the charts today. The best lyricists now remain underground because the public doesn’t wanna think, they wanna hear club anthems with killer beats and pointless lyrics.

Like the guy who does “this is why I’m hot” he has a lyric that basiclly say’s " I can say nothin’ and I’ll still get rich". Jesus, the guy knows he sucks, and he’s laughing all the way to the bank. That’s the state of hip-hop today. I will say though, history repeats itself and if there is one person that has the juice to help usher in creative writing and meaning in their message, I think it is Lupe Fiasco. For whatever reason, he’s got the peoples ear. I just hope they’re really listening.

Where I’m from it’s called “Mexi-dirt-weed”.

im 20. lupe shits on the people you mentioned man, ive listened to almost all of them with the exception of maybe one or two you posted. lupe is much more clever on everything, the reason i say it is because its how i think it is. i cant believe youd call lil wayne and kanye talentless either thats just wrong. kanye is above and beyond 99.9% of rappers out there, this guys lyrics may not be more intriqute (sp) than lupe’s but he makes up for it with production and swagger

youre making lupe seem like hes the new 50 cent, hes not that mainstream popular dude, honestly most his shit goes over peoples heads which explains why he made the song “dumb it down” which also goes over a lot of peoples heads. he doesnt dumb shit down to be all catchy, ever. you dont have to like him, it doesnt change nothin for me, i still think hes one of the best rappers out right now or ever, hes def in my top 5, actually id say top 3

Bro, you’re entitled to like and listen to whoever you want. And I’ll say again, I like Fiasco. But to me, he’s just a middle of the pack lyricist when compared to the people I’ve mentioned. Certain musicians you hear, and certain musicians you feel. You obviously feel what he does, and I can’t argue with that. But, Kanye West sucks balls. I have some lil’ Wayne on my ipod, and I’ll listen to it when I lift, but all he has is dope beats. His lyrics are silly, and he often doesn’t even use words to complete a rhyme. That’s not talent. That’s preying on the ignorant.

From Fool & Liquor, pure genius…

Turn me up
uh-huh…
yeah…

He came back
In the same suit that he was buried in
Similar to the one his grand father was married in
Yes… he was still fresh to death
bling, two ear-rings, a chain laying on his chest
He still had it cuz they couldn’t find it
And the bullets from his enemies sat like two inches behind it
smelled the Hennesy from when his niggas got reminded
and poured out liquor in his memory, he didn’t mind it, But…
He couldn’t sip it fast enough
So the liquor was just filling the casket up
floating down by his feet was the letter from his sister
Second Grade hand-writing simply read “I miss ya”
Suit jacket pocket held his baby daughter’s picture
Right next to it one of his man’s stuck a swisher
He had a notion as he laid there soaking
Saw that the latch was broken, he kicked his casket open
and he…

[Chorus]

Definitely not gangsta…

the cool was better than food and liquor

btw the carter 3 finally leaked last night, listening now first two tracks are fire 3 peat and mr carter ft jay-z
