I don’t know what that means, but I do know that Lupe Fiasco bit his style from Tribe. And, I know you don’t know shit about good hip-hop.

White Flash-
During the VH1 Honors Awards, Lupe preformed one of The Tribes song and messed up a couple of lines. When asked responding to critics he basically said ??I DID NOT GROW UP ON ATCQ!!!??? he was more influenced by Spice 1, NWA, and Snoop. So your allowed to compare his style to ATCQ, but to claim Lupe “bit” his style from them couldn’t be further from the truth.
Check out the article: Lupe, Tribe Called Quest & Hip Hop Elitism by Davey D | The Hip Hop Cosign

I don’t give a fuck what he says, he sounds NOTHING like spice 1,NWA or snoop. His bounce and delivery are reminiscent of Q-tip. His excuses for fucking something up don’t change the fact that he bit from somebody, it just proves he’s as talented as people make him out to be.
why do you have to sound like someone to be influenced by them or vice versa? every rapper lists the same 5-10 influences with only a couple variances and they never sound like who they listen to. do you really think eminem sounds anything like eazy-e?

Over my head? He has simple rhymes with simple messages. He’s not over anyone’s head. Maybe you’re thinking of someone other than Sage Francis. I’m not comparing them, Francis blows Fiasco out of the water as a lyricicst. There is no comparison.

I’m not saying you have to be influenced by someone to sound like them, but you can’t claim that you’re not influenced by someone if you’re style is almost exactly like theirs. I don’t think about Eminem or Eazy-e. Eazy-e helped usher in gangster rap but was pretty shitty as a lyricist, and Eminem is a corporate sponsored rebel who got by on a shtick that’s no longer sticking.

i think eminem got by because he was talented, extremely talented. yea he appealed to angry white kids too but first and foremost his was a really talented lyricist. as of late hes just been garbage and mustve just lost something, his times over and honestly i cant stand him or the people who listen to him as they tend to fall into that category of angry white kids.

lupe fiasco is anything but simple, check out his mixtape stuff Revenge of the Nerds, Farenheit 1/15

And so it seems that I’m, sewin jeans
And, 1st and 15 is just a sewin machine
So I, cut the pattern and I, sew in seams
And, button in this hustlin then publically I’m Buddy Lee
There’s no bustin them and cuffin them is like
usherin in the regime, they want me to make Prince pants
But I withstand, I ain’t gotten into that
A little big (B.I.G) in the waist, two-pocket (2-pac) on the back
Call them Nu-vi’s, O.G.'s covered in blue dye
Give 'em the game, that’s like givin chocolate to the fat
Look, how you think I got here?
That’s the same game that came through where I lived as a kid
in the bad luck truck and threw boxes off the back
Made me a ripper, deliver like river
Content a little more thicker, slicker
Yeah, and they said oil and water don’t mix
Now they all down at the beach washin off the fish
Was Blackbeard 'til I brought the Roc into your ships

Uhh, it’s hella proper (proper)
Cause it sag so low you can see boxer, like a boxer’s
That’s the way that the Family’s pants worn
Then we slide, and try and put ‘em on
The stones in the pocket’ll drag you down to Davy Jones locker
Beware if you wanna Roc the Knickerbocker
Other nigga from the block what, they was sellin O’s
like Wheel of Fortune, of imported cocaine
just to feel important, it was +Do or Die+
They was tired of bein "Po’ Pimps," now for sure
That was just a product of my common sense
I guess, I was just guessin like the consonants
Momma said beware of what the devil do
Tell 'em that your soul’s not for sale like the W’s
So go ahead and pirate, the highest
cannons make you leak like pirated my shhh…
It’s no shhh… it’s just shhh like quiet
And big homey’s out of retirement

how that doesnt blow your mind is beyond me

Instrumental-

He just sits, and listens to the people in the boxes
Everything he hears he absorbs and adopts it
Anything not comin out the box he blocks it
See he loves to box and hope they never stop it
Anything the box tell him to do, he does it
Anything it tell him to get, he shops and he cops it
He protects the box, locks it in a box
when he goes to sleep, but he never sleeps
Cause he stays up to watch it, scared to look away
Cause at that moment, it might get stolen
And that’s the last of the boxes
So he chained hisself to the box, took a lock and then he locked it
Swallowed the combination and then forgot, it
As the doctors jot it all down, with they pens and pencils
The same ones that took away his voice
And just left this instrumental, like that

Twilight Zone-

My mindstate rewinds wakes
And fast-forwards bullets makin’a B-line for my face
Then they stop like Neo
Laugh at me throw some cash at me then fly pass me
But one ricochette off the wall to come ask me
Am I scared of him or the “nigga that blast me”
Or maybe just the hammer that goes to be a hole in an innocent bystander
My eye’s a camera my ear’s a microphone
My mind is Pro Tools my head is a stool
Whats recorded in my dome gets reported when I zone
My mouth is a speaker I’m anchoring the misery
There’s no friends my enemy of my enemy is my enemy
Beekers and test tubes full of memories
In my labatory I create stories
Doze off then wake up surrounded by Forties
Wit glocks tucked in they labels
And they caps is baseball hats
Playin poker at a table
Cigarrets massage they shoulders in belly tops showin off they navels
A dime sack side bets, a tech is runnin’ for president
Jesus pieces walk around with niggas hangin from they necks
Monoploy is playin’ chess
I just picked up an obituary of a bullet proof vest
Put the headphone on my mouth speak into my ears
Yea microphone check, check, check, check, check
Check, a pair of Air Forces told me Rims’ve been extinct for years
Been ethnic cleansed by Jersey’s tryna take over the set
And Television is on deathrow for killing BET and MTV over a dice game
And paralyizing CNN for knifing him in the neck
I hear Clear Channel’s been fightin him in the rec
Who’s in for givin’ grape Kool-Aid laced wit STRY 9 to Mixtapes and arm robbin cassettes
Dope told me Weed was a crack fiend but Crack told me Dope was a base head
Hi-hats told police he was just a soldier he did what the Bass said
The Snare and the Kick didn’t make it out alive
The Sample made it out with some money but he died in the ride
The 808 got caught wit some work (He ain’t never comin’ home)
So the MPC’s and the MP3’s is fightin over his turf
Sean Don just gave birth
But she’s thinkin’ bout leavin it on the doorstep of a church
Cristal can’t have kids she plottin’ to kidnap it that she orchestrated with a purse
But Gucci told Fendi and Fendi turned and around and told Henny
And Henny is Moets baby’s father
But she tried it anyway disguised as nurse
In the newspapers it says “Hip-Hop called Rock n Roll racist”
The Six ripped the Five and the Maybach taped it
A Hundred dollar bill just signed a record deal
But blew all his money on the Braceletes
And givin’ the Gold Dollar a face lift
A Button Up just drove by in a 6-4 Impalla
All the Rolex’s is hatin’ you see the smirks on they faces
The Havatampas is defending the Dutches they keep catchin cases
But the judge is a Swisha he just give em iBonds and community service with the Papers
so the Newport’s is gettin mad at the ZigZags then out come the razors
See the Kool’s is killers on the creep
Rush up on the Philly, leave his guts spillin on the street
Some Gold Grills burned down a building of some teeth
Some Sharpened Tooth Brushes is holding the trampoline cuz some children finna to leap
I just seen Rocawear rock Sean John to sleep with the same heat that Baby Phat carried
Sprint is pimpin Nextel she just gave head to a Black Berry…
I heard she go two-ways
But he was skeetin on her face as it was beepin on my waist
This is the mind of Lupe
Just make sure my mic’s on when I Twilight Zone, Zone, Zone, Zone

Probably because it’s not new. I like Lupe, but he’s not that witty or clever. And he’s not doing anything that hasn’t been heard before.

But he is different than what’s popular now and that’s refreshing. He’s a breath of fresh air in the currently south dominated rap industry. But I, as well as many others, can see the ATCQ comparison. Imagine Phife rapping over some Kanye-style production and you have something pretty close Lupe. Personally, Lupe reminds more of Tha Alkoholiks or, and you’ll probably hate this comparison, Young MC. I don’t see the Sage Francis comparison, and I was compared to Sage, I would take that as an insult.

Also, for someone who likes to put down “backpack” rap, Lupe is pretty damn close to being backpack.

Anyway, I like Lupe Fiasco. I’d rather listen to his worst song before I would listen to “Laffy Taffy” or “Chains Hang Low.”

Malonetd pretty much hit it on the head. I don’t see the Alkaholiks comparison, but the Young MC parallels are definitely there [which is not a bad thing]. Once again, I didn’t compare Fiasco to Francis. As a southerner [I’m from Houston] it’s disheartening to see that people associate our hip-hop scene with the few artists who’ve made it out of here. There’s alot of talent here, but talent doesn’t get you paid. Dopey lyrics over bangin’ beats with catchy hooks make it.

I give Houston all the credit in the world for Scarface and the Geto Boys.

Well, maybe not Willie D’s solo career.

De la did a free show here last year and one of the opening acts was Willie D. I yelled to my boy that no one would get it.Wrong music for that crowd. Sure enough, about 99% of the crowd just STOOD there while Willie D got more and more frustrated with the lack of crowd participation. Until he did my mind’s playin tricks on me and the whole place lost it. As someone who grew up listening to the Geto boys, it was one of the coolest things I’ve seen at a concert.

You gotta give H-town [by way of Port Arthur]credit for UGK also.

I piss on everything because it’s fun pissing little wannabe’s off. It has nothing to do with what I get, or don’t get. Thinking I am out of touch, or just not with the times simply magnifies the ignorance of the teeny-boppers posting in here.

i dont see the Alkaholiks comparison either, bro. I can see how Lupe is a little backpack but he does make chart songs and he doesnt make every other song about some government conspiracy, true he can rhyme politically but he also makes some good songs. its kinda like Kanye although i think Lupe in terms of lyricism and wordplay is beyond him (which doesnt mean hes a better rapper) anyway Kanye can also make really catchy songs and make very creative music but at the same time he can make a serious song, like Jesus Walks, Blood Diamonds and he can do hiph-op/backpack too lets not forget the songs he did with Rhymefest and Dialated Peoples.

sage francis, cunnyinglinguists, or any of these other guys cant do that shit. theyre one dimensional which is what keeps them down there, they can say they want to be mainstream or whatever all they want but who likes living in debt? Lupe could kill any of these dudes on their own shit and go out and write a chart topping song the next day. im not even trying to ddefend the guy like that im just trying to say hes versatile and witty and i think hes more the poster boy for the Swag scene (hip-hop/skateboarding blend) than he is for backpack rap.

What does being from New Zealand have to do with anything? You listen to rap, you’re a white guy from the suburbs… should I rest my case?

being from new zealand and being a hardcore tupac fan has to do with a lot of things. tupac is always trying to rap about some ghetto gangsta shit which i doubt applies to you in any way, shape, or form. youre on this dudes nuts so bad you named yourself after him, wow thats some lame shit.
