The Swag (Urban Fashion)

Wow…what a thread to jump into. It’s my first time seeing this. I’ll just comment on a few things.

Live, if your mom can’t afford heat, and you’re not interested in helping, why don’t you just move out and quit being a burden. Your 20 years old. Time to be a man, not a little boy.

Also, I don’t care about your lack of capitalization, or your use of slang, but could you at least try to spell a few words correctly? That makes you look like a retard.

As far as comparing Soulja Boy to Digital Undergound, that’s just nuts. Digital Underground weren’t supposed to be great rappers. They wanted to be a modern funk band, an updated version of Funkadelic or Parliament. Hell, there wasn’t even that much rapping on most of their albums.

Soulja Boy wants to be a rapper. Too bad he’s garbage. He mumbles and talks about nothing. I don’t want to hear about him being 16, either. Maybe since he’s just a kid, he shouldn’t be rapping about superman-ing hoes and busting nuts all over bitches. I guess he’s OK for some club or dance music, but’s that’s it. But even there, Digital Underground would put him to shame.

Next is Lil Wayne. OK, I gotta admit, I don’t think I’ve really listened to him since he was rapping about his tattoos on his verse in “Bling, Bling”. I just heard “Lollipop” the other day. Are you fucking serious? This is the greatest rapper out right now? I guess I agree when his competition is Soulja Boy.

I do like Lupe Fiasco, but I think The Cool was the much better album. I thought Rhymefest’s Blue Collar was better than Food and Liquor.

I like what the Cool Kids are trying to do, but I just can’t get into them. It’s just a little too much throwback and forced irony to me. It’s gimmicky.

I don’t have much to add as far as new stuff. The Kidz in the Hall album was decent as far as hipster stuff goes. Atmosphere is too emo for me most of the time. CRAC Knuckles was different, but in a good way.

i applaud your opinion, as everyone is entitled to it. However the only reason people are saying lil wayne is the best out at the moment is because, he’s the hardest working rapper out at the moment…he puts in effort and its paid off, ok lollipop aint the best song however it still is a decent song.

soulja boy i dont think ever claimed to be the best rapper alive however i’d rather hear a 16 year old rap about busting a nut on a girl, than him selling rocks or shooting a million and one people.

yes rhymefest’s album was incredibly dope

also anyone else heard saigons - believe it?..fucking sick track, it goods to hear he got dropped from atlantic, now maybe we can finally get the greatest story never told

and yes i agree atmosphere is depressing

did you really just admit to not hearing anything hes put out in the last decade, then say you heard Lollipop and use that as your only evidence of his talent? wow. this guy has 9,000 songs out right now and you pick that one, come on dude. at least listen to the remix of it, or check out any of his freestyles/mixtapes. just wow.

id like to stop moving off topic, but boston is the most expensive place in the US to live (fuck you cali) so im not moving out for a couple years probaly. just get off my nuts about the whole situation, thanks.

anyway, since its that time of the year again (finally, i might add) what are some of your favorite summer joints, preferably some new ones but classics dont hurt either.
i think Summer With Miami is like the…i dont want to say anthem…but its like the epitome of the summer time feel. Can You Believe It is another good one, its pretty old and i dont bump it that hard anymore but the lyrics are so damn true its amazing.
im feeln that new Akon/Kardinal Offishall too

I was using hyperbole. I’ve heard plenty, but my point was nothing ever stood out to me. He’s been overrated and over-regarded because he’s been up against sub-par competition.

Lil Wayne and Bay Area rap is where its at!!

If you havent heard wayne’s songs and you dont like him, just listen to his verse on “we takin over”

jay-z has still been putting out cd’s and mixtapes the whole while wayne has. He gets 1/3 the hype, is he sub-par competition?

No he is not sub-par. I may not like him, but he’s a damn good rapper. The problem is that people seem to like rappers who mumble some shit about superman and busting a nut on him or something gay like that.

"The album Souljaboytellem.com was met with mostly negative reviews, despite a positive one from All Music Guide. Several reviewers credited Soulja Boy with spearheading a new trend in hip-hop, while speculating he will likely be a one hit wonder.

Critics and hip-hop figures such as Snoop Dogg, 50 Cent, and Jermaine Dupri cite Soulja Boy as artistically typical of contemporary rap trends such as writing for the lucrative ringtone market, and the ascendence of “Southern hip hop”, emphasizing catchy, mindless music that discards rap’s traditional emphasis on message.

Soulja Boy identifies his goal as making upbeat, party-themed music that avoids the negative, violent image that he sees in most hip-hop. Despite this, his music has been banned from some school dances for sexual, pro-violence content or innuendo and , ironically, many of his recent recordings feature violent content and sexual innuendo.

In the original YouTube video for “Shootout”, Way demonstrates his dance while holding a handgun in each hand and pretending to shoot into the audience."

I’m sorry… but what the fuck does soulja boy have to do with wayne? I HATE soujla boy, we can agree on that. People were saying lil wanyne is considered top of the game because there is not competition. Soulja Boy is not considered a good rapper by many, if any. So 50, Game, Kanye, Lupe, Snoop, etc. are sub par just cuz they aren’t Pac or Big?

That’s what I thought, shut up.
(not you specifically, but all Lil’ Wayne haters)

That was for the benefit of the people who keep saying he has artistic merit because “people wanna party”. I suggest that me farting is much better than “Crank Dat”.

Apparently, these songs are shit because you can’t “let loose” when listening to them.

50 Cent, The Game, Kanye, Lupe, Snoop etc. are considered good because they can make an understandable verse. And there ain’t nothin’ wrong with Wayne.

(No, that wasn’t sarcastic. Yes I like this song. Sue me.)

Mandatory bad joke: I heard 50 Cent took so much AAS his record forced him to change his name to One Dollar.

50 is sub par.
Kanye’s production is waht sets him apart, not his rapping ability.
Lupe, I don’t know, we’ll see.
Snoop hasn’t put out anything that has come close to matching Doggystyle.

I’ll give you Jay-Z, but he has a lot of misses. He surrounds his one or two hits with a lot of filler on his albums. And his last two albums were big drop offs in quality.

Look, I have two main problems with current rap. First, it’s become more about production than lyricism. It’s all about a beat and a catchy hook.

For example, take Rich Boy’s Throw Some D’s. It’s got a great beat and good production, but Rich Boy doesn’t bring anything to the table with his raps. That’s why Kanye can release a remake that sounds just as good. Hell, Eli Porter could rap over that beat and it would be a hit.

Next, and this is my biggest problem, is that no one makes a fully listen-able album any more. I realize that this is not just the artist’s fault. In the age of iTunes, MySpace, and commercial jingles, it’s all about that one hit.

The artist needs to make that one hit single to be successful. I can’t even remember that last album released that I could listen to start to finish. Where’s the next Illmatic? Midnight Marauders? Reasonable Doubt? Where’s the next Chronic? (Yes, I am eagerly awaiting Detox, if it ever comes.)

So there. I don’t HATE Lil Wayne, I just don’t think he’s the second coming of a rapping Jesus Christ.

I agree how it’s hard to find an album you can listen to start to finish these days, yes I know all about those CD’s have em all love em all.

Rap is just… different almost exactly how you put it, about that one hit. But, I mean if you like wayne, you like him can listen to his albums start to finish.

So in the age of one hit wonders, he is the only one making albums that can be listened to start to finish, like Illmatic, Doggystyle, Reasonable Doubt, etc. Oh and jeezy’s debut album and Game’s “documentary” were both classics only a couple years old.

Youre not gonna fina a whole CD you can listen to anywhere. theres some that come close but theres always a song or two you wont like. maybe you will later but ATM you probaly wont. its because everyone is different and even if you like someone’s music 90% theyre still gonna have a couple things different than you and its gonna show. its just how it is.

i dont even see what the arguin is about, if you dont like S.B. then you dont, if you dont like Wayne then you dont. go listen to the rappers you like then. this isnt some monopoly shit where they bought out the airwaves and control CD distribution, you can listen to whatever you want.

i got a lot of friends who dont like Lupe and Kanye as much as i do, i could speculate all day why or try to convince them but whats the point. i listen to techno (hardstyle) too and sometimes theyre into it, sometimes they arent but i dont care im not about to force it all onto someone else because I enjoy it.

Love those albums.

The problem with people like Souljah Boy and his ilk is that music TV channels always insist on playing that shit. Every channel I turn to I’m confronted with absolute garbage.

Worst thread ever. No talent ass-wipes cheerleading for their favorite shit.

GO buy a fucking Tiger Beat if you want to be a fanboy.

Too bad threads don’t come with a gaydar alert. This one would be off the chart.
