The Supreme Court Fight is On. The Divide Worsens

I have to disagree. We can identify different types of liberty. Say one type is under attack, and the other isn’t. And I would consider oppression to be people wanting armed organizations to force other people to sell wedding cakes to others.

Two things:

  1. I’ll bite, @Sloth; what armed organizations are you referring to in this case?

  2. In terms of the Gay Couple and the Cake; on the surface, I felt it was “select your battles” or you risk losing the true battles when they come along.

In other words; you lessen your credibility on things like this when you probably had many more baker’s you could have gone to who would have been more than happy to make the cake.

Am I missing a point in this case?

Law enforcement. Which would ultimately be used to force compliance.

Should that baker not sell to a muslim couple? A Jewish couple? Athiest couple?

All are sinning. All are sinful marriages. Why do you think that baker sold to athiest/agnostic hetero couples, but not the gay couple?

I hadn’t thought of that.

If the law allows for discrimination based on the practice of one’s religion, does that allow them to discriminate any who are practicing anything other than theirs if their religion allows for shunning of non believers?

It’s not about anyone being a sinner. It’s about marriage specifically.

All those other marriages are just as outlawed under Christianity. So why do you think homosexuals we’re singled out?

Then their competitors have a lot of customers.

No, they’re not.

Not if you live in a backwards bigoted area… Of which there are too damn many still.

Well, we’ll just have to do a better job at using the government to drive them out of making a living for their families. Can’t have people strain themselves contacting a second choice bakery.for a very specific desert request. First world problems.

So folks being discriminated against should just keep moving along till they find someone that won’t discriminate? Sounds very Jim crow South to me.

What does, wedding cake denial? Or the hypothetical situation where a person only sells to non-sinners of his religion/sect? I

There’s a new paradigm in political discourse- when your point is essentially moot due to it being a first world problem, like a gay cake, make an analogy to the Jim Crow era.

First we had Godwin’s Law.

Now we need a name for this new one. Because not being able to buy a cake is Exactly like being run out of entire regions of your country.

Not being served because of your sexual orientation is pretty darn similar to not being served because the color of your skin, wouldn’t you say?

So instead of addressing the point, you just say “first world problem” and dismiss it. Sounds similar to folks responding to legitimate Trump criticism by saying “but Hilary!!”.

You’re not suggesting that no matter who Trump picked it would be opposed by democrats? Certainly, they are the party of reason. Like Maxine Waters?

You know, the haraass people in their personal livessel because of their politics Maxine Waters?

Imagine the outrage if the positions were flipped?

Interesting choice of words ‘DEMS and the far right’?
Indicating that the extremists on the conservative side, but the average Democrat stand to embarrass themselves?
Do you not see this as a problem that the ‘average’ Democrat is buy default already out to sea?
Even liberals such as Bill Maher and Sam Harris have noticed that the left has moved ‘way off the grid’ with where they center their policies, not representative of most left-of-center Americans.

If true nor am I. But here’s the thing obama had a chance to kill this sort of thing (as he promised), but he renewed it every year. I concede there may be threats bigger than we can imagine and data gathering, though repulsive on its face may be the only option.
I don’t like it. I definitely don’t like cases where it was misused, but I would like to know why even somebody who vowed to end it, kept resigning it? What do we NOT know?

Hey @forlife! It’s great to see you again!
Now, you have to respond or use an ‘@’ in front of my name to get my attention.

I have nothing to add except it’s great to hear from you again old friend. I hope all is well with you. It sounds like it.

We’ll catch up when the time is right. I am genuinely happy to hear from you and you have all my sincere best wishes!!!

Why not? You can be fired for wearing the wrong socks.
No I don’t support such a thing. As I have said before I am a liberal when it comes to worker’s rights.
People have to be treated with more dignity than an old chair and that’s not been the case for way to long.
If you suck, then you should be canned, but you shouldn’t be canned just because the boss doesn’t like your hair.
