The Supreme Court Fight is On. The Divide Worsens

I watched his entire opening statement and I think all of the accusations of “bad temperment” are way overblown. He didn’t yell. He spoke in a way that I would expect someone who spends his whole life living and serving honorably would speak when falsely accused of gang rape, sticking his penis in some girls face and attempted rape.

Of course, liberal pundits would have found a way to twist his words and actions to call him unfit no matter how he would have handled it.

The quote.

To be a good judge and a good umpire, it’s important to have the proper demeanor. Really important, I think. To walk in the others’ shoes, whether it be the other litigants, the litigants in the case, the other judges. To understand them. To keep our emotions in check. To be calm amidst the storm. On the bench, to put it in the vernacular, don’t be a jerk. I think that’s important. To be a good umpire and a good judge, don’t be a jerk. In your opinions, to demonstrate civility—I think that’s important as well. To show, to help display, that you are trying to make the decision impartially and dispassionately based on the law and not based on your emotions. That we’re not the bigger than the game…There’s a danger of arrogance, as for umpires and referees, but also for judges. And I would say that danger grows the more time you’re on the bench. As one of my colleagues puts it, you become more like yourself—and that can be a problem.

How do you quote someone in your (the author’s) article and not even notice the context? He’s not talking about being grilled by people who’ve already called you evil and presumed your guilt.

When you “sign” a petition like that, is it like #MeToo?

Tells me more about the people that signed it than it does about Kavanaugh.

Then:

Now:

Progress. I’ll take it.

No. He was supposed to confess to having done everything he was accused of doing, or at least apologize for having done something that may be remembered differently by his accusers. The proper temperament is to cave to any and all accusations so that the opposition can get someone in who suits them.

The whole thing is political, and nothing he could do would satisfy those who oppose him.

Bro, did you hear him say, “I apologize for sticking, and trying to stick, my wiener in a lot of defenseless women that were completely opposed to my doing so over the years, and I am a raging alcoholic?” Yeah, didn’t think so. That’s where those accusations are coming from.

I thought Lindsey Graham’s little vote-seeking speech was pretty good, until I listened to the woman’s opening statement. After hearing her, I realized that all he’d done is give her way too much credit while trying to score political points.

You must have had your TV on “mute” if you didn’t consider that yelling.

Please give timestamps of yelling?

Listen to the quotes of Democrats he is reading out, including of those sitting on the very committee he is addressing. He should’ve yelled.

@Sloth ; he’s your man, and he’s in.

I have said over and over in this tread two things 1) he has the judicial qualifications, and 2) the DEMS come out looking like partisan clowns in all this.

With that said; I firmly believe that “something” didn’t happen with Ford…and I think Kavanaugh was involved…and I also firmly believe that all of the Left Wing Conspiracy/Clinton rant stuff is a legitimate concern.

Time to move on to the Federalist Societies next choice.

C’mon, man, that’s not how interwebZ public lynchings work.

He was yelling for the entirety of his opening statement, according to the pictures posted by @antiquity. “Yelling” has less to do with what you and I probably consider “yelling,” than with the fact that one has a goofy-looking face.

I, too, believe those things…Kavanaugh’s involvement came 30+ years after something didn’t happen.

I have a very cynical view of people in general.

So I’ll address the elephant in the room (maybe) and just bluntly say this: Ford was one of the ugly crowd, Kavanaugh was one of the in crowd plus the smartest kid in the school; at a party, Kav and his drunken buddies made fun of Ford’s lack of…assets…and she’s never forgotten it. (Don’t we all have that one traumatic high school experience that keeps on lingering into our old age…?) Bang, decades later, Ford’s chance to settle the score.

Revenge is a dish best served cold -exquisitely so when it’s ice, ice cold.

You left out the most important characteristic of a good judge–appearing nonpartisan:

“Also in that 2015 speech, Kavanaugh made another key point: “First and most obviously,” a judge cannot be a “political partisan.” A jurist, he added, must “avoid any semblance of…partisanship.”

Or do you suppose he just means appearing nonpartisan while one is actually sitting on the bench at the SCOTUS–that it’s appropriate for a Justice to wear a MAGA hat (along with a ‘No Fat Chicks’ t-shirt) when chugging skis at a kegger with his bros PJ and Squi as they figure out who they’re gonna Devil’s Triangle tonight?

Where were you when the FBI needed you?

Just for those interested. “Squi” dated Ford. She doesn’t name him as being there it’s highly unlikely she would forget the guy she dated.

Side story: I got sued by a douchebag and was on my way to small claims court, until Judge Judy’s people intervened.

During the pre-show “prep”, I told the producers that while there was culpability on my part, the other party was at fault as well but wanted me to assume 100% of the blame.

The producers, especially the most senior one, told me in no uncertain terms that I had better blame the other guy 100%, assume no culpability on my part whatsoever, or “Judge Judy” would be pissed, and the case would get kicked back to small claims court. (wonder if people who watch the show know this). So, in essence, I was highly motivated to act aggrieved, and blame the other party for everything; which I was happy to do, since I had been absolved of karmic responsibility for, essentially, a little bit of lyin’ and a little bit of exaggeratin’.

Hmmmm…
