The Supreme Court Fight is On. The Divide Worsens

That’s a damn good argument for neutering its power.

Ummmmmm…

I don’t know, LS…

I know that that there are a lot of “Leave it to the States” Folks out there…but while the SCOTUS has made some terrible decisions; it has made some that Pivotal in making sure that ALL Americans were granted certain basic and fundamental Rights…independent of the State they lived in…

I would much rather have the Court…in all of it’s imperfections AND with it’s current Powers…than to not have it…

Thoughts?

I’m a fan of the Court. Well, until my interests are in the minority. Right now though I’m loving it!

That’s certainly a defensible position, Mufasa. There may be entirely plausible reasons why the court became and should remain this powerful (I am not an expert by any means)

My concern is that the power transfer from the Congress to the USSC and Executive will have deleterious effects on US democracy, problems that will become more pronounced if the process accelerates

Also, it is true that on a great deal of issues, the Court made a consensus impossible, and ratcheted up the disagreement to new heights. Take Roe, or citizens united for example.

Truthfully? I have no idea, I am not a radical, so even my own “break the system and see what happens” thoughts tend to be revolutionary only in the armchair sense.

Do not worry my friend, this too shall pass.

Oh, I know. Then I’ll come on here and whine about it.

To me…one of the worst decisions EVER…which I feel has far-reaching negative implications for the Political Process in this Country…

Even “supporters” of it have a difficult time defending it…

And now extraordinarily hard to get rid of, perhaps impossible.

I don’t even understand how it is a “Left” or a “Right” decision.

It seems to have terrible implications for everyone.

Unlimited Money and Politics…no problem there…

Just that kavanaugh will be hardened and less likely to be swayed in his judicial views from the treatment he is receiving. If the same people that LITERALLY called you evil are trying to persuade you down the road that the Constitution is a “living document,” would you be more or less likely to be moved?

We can always have another thread, or atleast drag one up from 2010.

But i swear to God if one person uses the phrase “corporations aren’t people” thread closed!

Got it. AL…

Agree, 100%. As I mentioned earlier; sometimes people will kind of go the “opposite” of the way they were treated…but after his outburst, I don’t think that Kavanaugh is one of them.

Oh, it was. Incredibly bad. Madison rolled in his grave.

Adding to @Legalsteel’s post - opinions get assigned by the Chief, and so Kavanaugh would do more than simply vote. The analysis by justices get circulated as they internally debate the question, and someone’s memo winds up being the basis for the published opinion. Internally, he will be active and will try to drive decisions amd persaude his colleagues, as all other eight do.

The “sworn statement from a longtime boyfriend of Dr. Ford’s” is now online. In it, the ex-boyfriend claims that he witnessed Dr. Ford help McLean prepare for a potential polygraph exam. Dr. Ford explained in detail what to expect, how polygraphs worked, and helped McLean become familiar and less nervous about the exam.

The twists and turns.

If it turns out she lied as well, I think it’s only fair that neither of them should be confirmed as a Supreme Court justice.

What did he lie about?

Anyways,IF the alleged boy friend checks out to be who he says, I don’t see anything else sticking against Kavanaugh. I think the public is going to have a hard time accepting anything less than attempted rape at this point. Arguing over how much he drank, for example, is going to come off as desperate and petty to a public who was promised a gang rapist… A public that has probably done some pretty decent partying, on the whole, in their own high school and college days.

They’re both lying about the role the other played in the assault. Not only was he not there, neither was she. He also tore his own clothes off and aggressively groped himself.

That’s normal behavior for Catholics.

How is that bad? It’s probably what everyone is told before they take a polygraph.
