That’s what you get when you have two consensus centre left parties, with the only difference being the colour of the ties.
That and no defined bill of rights.

His unpopularity predates Trump, but I take your point.
Also, come on dude, low blow. You didn’t have to do me like that. You know I hate that crap too. I thought we were buddies!
Is there no middle ground between ‘campaigns on X and then does Y’ and ‘lock and key partisan?’
Goldwater was hardly a lock and key partisan, but he was a beloved son of AZ.
The texts between Berchem and Karen Yarasavage, both friends of Kavanaugh, suggest that the nominee was personally talking with former classmates about Ramirez’s story in advance of the New Yorker article that made her allegation public.
Kavanaugh was asked by Sen. Orrin Hatch, R-Utah, when he first heard of Ramirez’s allegations. Kavanaugh answered: “In the New Yorker story.”
A Sept. 24 text shows Yarasavage clarifying that she did not refute Ramirez’s claims to the New Yorker. Republicans and Kavanaugh have said that his former classmates, who gave an anonymous statement to the New Yorker, have refuted Ramirez’s claim.
“I didn’t say I would have known. … I said she never told me, I never heard a word of this ever happening and never saw it. The media surmised (that I was saying she is lying),” said Yarasavage.
They heard she was calling around before the story in the New Yorker ran. Which we know she did… For the purposes of, I don’t know, piecing her memory together. She wasn’t even sure if Kavanaugh had done it and was looking for help to remember if it happened and if it was him. They got exactly, formally, was she was alleging from the story. But they heard something was going on before it.
National Review points out that Kavanaugh did mention.this in his testimony.
[Redacted Questioner]: Well, actually, are you aware that the New York Times passed up on this story before the New Yorker ran the story? Judge Kavanaugh. That’s what I read in the New York Times. What’s your reaction to that?
Judge Kavanaugh: They couldn’t — the New York Times couldn’t corroborate this story and found that she was calling around to classmates trying to see if they remembered it. And I, at least — and I, myself, heard about that, that she was doing that. And you know, that just strikes me as, you know, what is going on here? When someone is calling around to try to refresh other people, is that what’s going on? What’s going on with that? That doesn’t sound — that doesn’t sound good to me. It doesn’t sound fair. It doesn’t sound proper. It sounds like an orchestrated hit to take me out. That’s what it sounds like.
I couldn’t help it ![]()
Did he campaign on ‘Nominate Kav to SCOTUS?’ Seriously asking, I barely know who he is beyond this recent shit. If not, it seems he expects those appointed to a lifetime of SCOTUS and country influence be completely above reproach.
I’ll bet Roberts wouldn’t have found imaginary words in ACA had he gone through this.
She’s lying.

…And…???
What is the parallel you are drawing?
So I am finally starting to pay attention to this fiasco.
Why do they keep asking Kavanaugh if he is willing to agree with pursuing an FBI investigation. What does it matter if he says he does. I can see how preferring not to have one can make him look guilty. If thats the case why would he not jump on board and tell them to do one. Its not his decision regardless.
That’s fair. He is an eminently forgettable man.
Probably best statement on here so far.
Nevertheless I expect Kavanaugh’s judicial record of fairness will continue as a Supreme Court Justice.
Are you guys going to enlighten the unenlightened?
What does this mean?
Let’s hope so.
He’s human…so after such a traumatic experience…it could go either way…
Others (like @thunderbolt23) certainly can expand in this…but a justice often has only to vote, and not write a reason and/or opinion for that vote, correct? (In my simple understanding of things).
Certainly after all of this; I doubt Kavanaugh will be anywhere near a “swing” vote.
He’s made it clear about his belief in the Deep State/Left-Wing agenda’s that permeate our Lives.
Oh geeze. Yeah, I think this accuser is all but discredited.
Well, that now depends entirely on which side of the aisle you sit on.
That is correct. A justice agrees with the majority or the dissent. They normally state which parts of either they agree with. If they agree with absolutely nothing, they write their own.
In the worst possible instances, a decision is reached with 9 separate opinions. Any law student will tell you that these are the worst things on earth.
So to take a recent USSC example (randomly selected) you’ll find the following text at the end of the case summary.
SOTOMAYOR, J., delivered the opinion of the Court, in which ROBERTS,
C. J., and KENNEDY, THOMAS, GINSBURG, BREYER, KAGAN, and GORSUCH,
JJ., joined. KENNEDY, J., filed a concurring opinion. ALITO, J., filed a
dissenting opinion.
