I firmly believe that college will be largely irrelevant in ten years. Too many useless degrees, too many professionals starting their careers out hamstrung by debt, and now the embarassment of costume gate, and the campus antics of the “SJWs”. When that bubble bursts it will be funny to see all of the out of work professors and adjunct faculty wandering the wilderness of the wider world.
My brother in law is a math professor at a well known university, and while he hasn’t had any run ins with the “SWJs” he reports that cheating is not only rampant on campus, but that the administration turns a blind eye. He says the main reason is that most college student’s math ability (lack there of) shouldn’t have gotten them past middle school. And these aren’t people who got in by affirmative action but, the offspring of upper middle class white priviledge.

I have friends who are professors at a community college and they tell me how abysmal the material the students put out is. They write papers like sending a text message. No citations, no footnotes, and no basic grammar or structure to their argument. Then when they find out they are struggling and may flunk the class, they either come up with a sob story or mention how they are paying for the class and shouldn’t pay for a failing grade.
I can’t even imagine what school would be like with the internet or being able to email your homework in, these kids are spoiled rodents.
When I was in college I didn’t necessarily see this but I saw a lot of lowering of standards. My guess is their goal is to just move kids through the process with a certain graduation percentage. When admission is high and classes are hard to get the last thing the school wants is kids failing and repeating classes only making the issue worse. Better to just get them out of there, if kids graduate with below standards of learning that’s not their problem at least for your typical state university. The real world will deal with the actual quality of their education, job recruiting won’t lower their standards, they just have to be smarter about filtering out the good ones. This isn’t an issue because with more applicants with a “college degree” they can be more selective.
The biggest example I saw of this in school was always grading exams based on the best or average scores. The top student gets an 80% on an exam, that’s recorded as 100% and everyone else is held to 80% as the standard for grading on that particular exam. It seemed the longer I was i school the more this happened.
As I have said many times, we are rotting from within.
