Something tells me you grew up in middle-America. These bubbles of LGBT folk seem to populate only the coasts and in the largest, most liberal of cities.
I have friends from as far back as junior high (from West Texas) that are gay. Lived in California and Illinois at different times. Just donāt know any trans people. Creative_name knowing multiple intrigued me.
It says Iāve been on here since 03, but it was really 98 or 99.
Seattle, a liberal paradise.
Okay all of your posts make more sense to me now. When you mentioned 13 years of education in a liberal area I thought you meant teaching experience. Thatās why your posts elicited a little bit of WTFāery from me.
Iām 42 and Iāve known gay people since I was in high school. I met a LOT of gays and lesbians working bar security and count some as my friends. Not a single transgender person was known to me personally until a few years ago when a friend around the same age as me came out as trans.
I also donāt buy the notion of deep transphobia preventing kids from being their authentic selves. Nobody was waiting outside the Rocky Horror Picture Show nights at the theater back in the 1990ās to beat up the kids who cross-dressed and enjoyed the movie. Many of us even found Ru Paul to be entertaining. Nobody cared about transgenders in the 1990ās and 00ās, let alone plain old gay people, because there was no coordinated effort to indoctrinate kids in to this lifestyle. Nearly every American under the age of 80 has grown up in a USA where gays and lesbians can be themselves and live happy lives. Even if, just like straight people, they occasionally encounter assholes who donāt like them. You canāt legislate mean people out of existence.
I now know two transgender adults and one child whose mother is raising a few of my eyebrows.
My first friend to come out as trans is āwalking the walkā, so to say, meaning transitioning socially as well as through medical treatments (although I do not know the full extent).
I also know a woman in her mid 20ās who recently began identifying as a man after self-identifying for years as a pansexual. Iām rather skeptical that sheās anything more than an attention-seeker who could benefit from some more productive hobbies. A couple dykes I know agree. Whatever pansexual was for her, it didnāt involve any carpet munching. I think sheās got way more to offer the world as a woman than she does as a trans man, but thatās just my take.
Thereās also a young boy I know who is a prepubescent nonverbal autistic and the childās mother seems to be leaning heavily into his feminine side. Maybe heās signaled to her somehow that he believes himself to be a girl. Iāve not pried open that vault of information and have no intention to.
Youāre a good writer and communicate well, btw.
Yeah, that definitely clarifies things a bit - I turn 19 in a couple months. Am graduating high school in a week.
āI mistook you for someone more than double your age with over a decade of teaching experienceā is probably the highest praise my writing has ever gotten, haha. Using actual words and arguing in genuine good faith already puts me ahead of most of my peers.
And yeah, I get that Iām at my prime āpolitical indoctrination age.ā Undeveloped prefrontal cortex and all that. If I look back at this thread when Iām 42, my attitude towards the whole situation may very well have changed substantially.
Either way, I appreciate the opportunity to hear your perspective, along with everyone else in the thread.
āThroughout June, the USMC [U.S. Marine Corps] takes #Pride in recognizing and honoring the contributions of our LGBTQ service members,ā the U.S. Marine Corps said in a statement posted to social media.
āWe remain committed to fostering an environment free from discrimination, and defend the values of treating all equally, with dignity and respect,ā it added, using the hashtags #PrideMonth and #USMC. The statement is accompanied by an image of a Marine helmet adorned with six bullets, each a different color, comprising a rainbow:

For those interested, there is a book written on this seemingly ridiculous increase in transgender identifying people, especially in teen girls.
It called āIrreversible Damageā by Abigail Shrier.
It delves into the psychology of how gender disphoria is increasing abnormally in teenage girls.
Regardless of your stance, itās worth a read/listen.
Shit, i wish my days were filled with this much ārespect and dignityā

Well fuck me running, I should have just gone for a liberal arts degree and let Brandon pay it off for me.
Right? Because this is exactly what we need and should be worried about in our armed forces.
What great recruiters you guys are.
I wasnāt aware I was one.
Canāt tell if youāre being sarcastic or saying Iād be great at recruiting dudes that are straight-adjacent, but thank you!
It is a burden being great at everything you do.

He has my vote and meager campaign donation if he does.
IMO heās the best of Gen-X currently holding a prominent elected office in the USA.
It has been quite a long time since a conservative wielded power so appropriately. He colors inside the lines legally and constitutionally while also eloquently challenging the nonsense narratives and media biases rife in modern politics. Heās also undoubtedly inspiring many imitators.
All without Trumpās NYC billionaire playboy bullshit.
