I give him lots of props for his filmmaking technique. His scripts SUCK. Signs was so well directed it managed to distract people from analysing the fucking plot.
How the fuck does an alien race - a fucking race that gets melted by water - advanced enough to master interstellar travel decide it’s a fucking good idea to take over a planet that’s made up of 70% water? They shouldn’t even have been able to survive in our atmosphere since there’s something called WATER VAPOR.
What do you think education should look like? Serious question, I’m considering becoming a teacher and possibly homeschooling my own kids. Always open to hearing people’s thoughts on the matter.
It should accept that you won’t get equal outcomes even with unequal distribution of resources. The whole equality vs equity vs justice thinking won’t fix anything. A child’s future success or failure is almost always decided before they are even born. You also need to put education ahead of emotional well being but schools are more concerned with social and emotional learning than actual education.
1). I’m Native, so this is very hurtful to me. Just kidding. I don’t think she should necessarily be fired for this.
2). But like, what the f*ck?! Is this the best way you’ve come up with to teach kids how to remember soh-cah-toa? I’m embarassed for this woman just by watching this video.
If she’s gonna be fired I’d say it should be for teaching methods, lol. Not racism, although part of me just wonders why, in this day and age, she ever thought that this was cool to do.
Every class needs to have a cultural element, regardless of subject. And the cultural element needs to be relevant to each and every culture the students represent. Yes, that’s now SOP in teaching. Every student needs to find the lesson culturally relevant.
Imagine teaching Homer and having to make the lesson culturally relevant to every different ethnic/cultural/religious/racial/gender group in the class. Apparently these people didn’t consider the point is to make Homer relevant on a human level.
With the current supply chain problems, sky rocking prices for food and fuel, I am so happy the University of Pittsburgh is showing us a true example of leadership.
University of Pittsburgh department puts ‘secretary,’ ‘clerk,’ and ‘omsbudsman’ on ‘sexist language’ list
‘Mankind,’ ‘chairman’ and ‘freshman’ are also considered examples of ‘Sexist Language’
The University of Pittsburgh has declared that terms such as “secretary,” “clerk,” and “omsbudsman” are considered “Sexist Language.”
A new “Gender-Inclusive/Non-Sexist Language Guidelines and Resources” page made by the Office for Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion at the University of Pittsburgh features a section titled “Terms to Use to Avoid Sexist Language.”
The guide also considers “mankind,” “chairman,” “freshman,” and “ladies and gentlemen” examples of “Sexist Language” that is considered “Language Not to Use.”
Instead, the guidelines released by the university department recommended that “first year student” should be used instead of “freshman” and “administrator” should be used instead of “Secretary/Clerk.”
I think I could support one of the points made though. Make writing assignments more about the argument / story told, than perfect English. I don’t agree if the assignment is for an English class, but for other classes, I think we should put more emphasis on the points being made, and not the grammar.
The only way it is defensible is if labor is meant as how well the argument is made, how well the story is told outside of perfect grammar. Otherwise it is just a guess how hard someone worked on their paper. TBH, I am not sure what he means by labor?
The dumber you are, the harder you would have to work on the paper, so the higher the grade. The smarter you are, the easier the paper would be for you, therefore you get lower a grade.
