You ever watch the sketch “Old Gregg”? He had a"mangina" … or also referred to a downstairs mixup
1million snowflake mom’s. They got the Hallmark channel to pull ads featuring gay couples, which caused an uproar. I decided to check out this group (division of American Family Association) and ran across their current campaigns. Holy dude man these mom’s sure get offended easily.
They are from the left, I assume.
Lol reading their page is hilarious.
SNL had a joke about them changing the hallmark thing. Paraphrasing but essentially said sorry moms if your boy is watching the hallmark channel it’s too late.
Promoting the Bible though. I haven’t watched a lot of non sports tv in forever but is anything as violent as the Old Testament?
I am a Christian conservative - but this crap pisses me off.
Whatever happened to “love your neighbor as yourself?” as a main tenent of Christian faith.
I think it’s just willful ignorance by these groups now. You don’t necessarily have to agree with someone to respect an opposing view and more importantly respect the person giving it.
An antifa protest??
Just because someone claims to be a Christian doesn’t make them a Christian …
or, as the venerable sage, Tyler Durden, stated it: “Sticking feathers up your butt does not make you a chicken.”
Am I missing something?
Get rid of your damn TV…and buy “acceptable” CD’s for you and your family to watch maybe?
Christians only WWJDing when it’s convenient pisses me off to no end. Not to mention is the cause of many an athiest’s conversion.
I very much like that Tyler durden quote haha.
WWJD. the Golden Rule. Don’t be a dick. Don’t care what God you pray to, or don’t pray to, just take seriously some variation of the above mantra and you’ll likely be a better person than 99% of folks out there.
This is how I used to approach my faith and like you said most people do it this way because it’s easy. To truly be “Christ-like” is incredibly difficult and most of the time I still fall short.
Meh … I think you’re forgetting Christians are people and subject to their own flaws. No one is perfect even if they might strive to be.
Both you and I are hypocrites as well…
And vice versa … atheists have their own flaws and are FAAAR from perfect. I’ve met just as many self-righteous atheists as I have Christians; conversely both groups also have humble, magnanimous people…
Yea man … I’ve seen the need to use it a lot lately for some reason … Tyler Durden was a very wise man…
Pretty much…
also: Aurelius’s ‘Meditations’ Book 2, Passage 1: Begin the morning by saying to thyself, I shall meet with the busy-body, the ungrateful, arrogant, deceitful, envious, unsocial. All these things happen to them by reason of their ignorance of what is good and evil. But I who have seen the nature of the good that it is beautiful, and of the bad that it is ugly, and the nature of him who does wrong, that it is akin to me, not only of the same blood or seed, but that it participates in the same intelligence and the same portion of the divinity, I can neither be injured by any of them, for no one can fix on me what is ugly, nor can I be angry with my kinsman, nor hate him, For we are made for co-operation, like feet, like hands, like eyelids, like the rows of the upper and lower teeth. To act against one another then is contrary to nature; and it is acting against one another to be vexed and to turn away.
I’m with you 200% on this, @cyclonengineer…
It’s technically impossible for one of two reasons:
- Christ was the son of God, or,
- He was imaginary.
I tend to think of Christ as a teacher more than a model. I don’t think he expected us to be able to walk on water, raise the dead or willingly allow ourselves to be murdered.
nevermind – I missed a key word in your post
I agree with you simply because I believe he was/is the Son of God. “Christ-like” is not equivalent to Christ. I know plenty of people disagree with the concept that he is Divine, but it kind of misses the point of what I am saying.
My point is, we all should strive to be better in all aspects of our lives. Everyone should desire to achieve more in all areas of their life. That achievement can/should be individually defined. Pursue what you want, how you want as long as it doesn’t cause harm to others.
While he did say things like “let he who is without sin let him cast the first stone”, and “your sins are forgiven you” he also said things like:
“go, and sin no more.”
"Jesus said to her, “You are right when you say you have no husband. 18 The fact is, you have had five husbands, and the man you now have is not your husband. What you have just said is quite true.”
He also flipped over tables and chased people with a whip.
So WWJD is not always warm and fuzzy. Forgiveness and grace doesn’t equal license to continue in sin.
What the Master did…or did NOT do…does not give us license to be condescending, judgmental assholes.
On the Mount the edict was given to us in very clear terms…
Love one Another…
It doesn’t mean we are to accept sin as acceptable behaviour either. We are to be in the world but not of the world.
Holy fuck this is a good one!
Cast the first stone is apocryphal.
