This seems like a really short sighted stance from Google et al if it’s really the case. Do they always take down and demonetize if a threshold is reached? If not, they are back to deciding whether or not to take action when the threshold is reached on some other basis. If the threshold is automatic, then the system is now just subject to abuse by mob rule.
Constantly. People have been complaining vocally for YEARS about being demonetized on YT. It’s 1000% driven by the mega corps that advertise on YT. It’s peaked several times in several industries. Typically ones MUCH larger than politics on YT.
The long and short of it is YT is a business. One that relies on advertising. NOBODY wants their ads playing on politically geared videos, least of all right wing videos. It’s just bad for business.
The system always has been and always will be subject to mob rule. It’s an advertising platform first and foremost. Or a data collection model, however you want to look at it.
Either way, you’re pretty much driven by consumer demand (using dislike/flag averages/features, because given YT has more videos than the planet has people, you have to do most of your policing by system rules) or client demand.
People have a weird view of the driving forces behind demonetizing a video on YT. They don’t give 2 shits what videos get ads as long as they’re getting paid for it.
Yeah it’s tough. First you have to determine what’s “bad.” Then how to determine whose making what’s bad. Then make sure you aren’t punishing people who aren’t actually making bad stuff. And then mob rule if you rely on them to tell you what’s bad.

This is something I have tried to get across (unsuccessfully) in another thread (and many others)…of the Left AND the Right buying into the same game.
Once a “tribe” has brought into a narrative…even somewhat reasonable people will not…and I mean NOT let go of it…despite all of the evidence to the contrary.
It’s worse than talking to a brick wall (you know something about materials, @SkyzykS, right?) It’s like trying to talk through 10 feet of titanium reinforced with 50 feet of concrete or something.
If it’s a tribe narrative that’s accepted…forget facts and/or reason.
I’m slowly but surely leaning that.

I agree. It’s been one rendition after another of not letting facts get in the way of a good story. Like O-C’s follow up tweets. She knows that nobody who follows her is going to believe anything else, as do the hard core Trump fans, and many others.
Winning feels too good to worry about the truth.

Might makes right and the winners write history. Loyalty to the group is far more adaptive than details that you can change after you win anyways. Even if you lose, it’s not like having the correct supporting details would have changed that.

I don’t know many Jews or how that would apply specifically, but that matches my observation of far left liberals pretty well.
I believe it’s based in the combination of believing that it’s better to be anything other than white middle class judeo-christianish , and the romantic notion that something else- black, Hispanic, middle Eastern, what ever, which they don’t know much about, Must be better.

I have linked this website/podcast before. I have his books. Such fun stuff to read. If anyone is looking for something interesting in psychology check out you are not so smart.
I used to listen to it but then my Podcast list got waaaaay too long and I had to ‘trim the fat’ so to speak. It was a tough call b/c I liked his approach and content.
