Pretty sure you are right, I don’t pay that much attention to it,although I should.
I’m sensitive to the discussion as I am a teacher. I know you are as well due to your wife’s vocation, as well as being civic minded. Unfortunately, the president of Oregon Health Sciences is also considered a teacher and his pension is calculated the same, so he is bringing down $1.5M in pension.
Of course, this is outrageous and invites attacks on “teachers” pensions, which may be warranted but using Belloti and the retired OHSU president distorts the view.
Don’t get me wrong, teaching is a good gig, but the rank and file classroom teachers aren’t the big problem in this scenario.
No, they aren’t. The numbers they’re throwing around up in that echelon are just nuts. A couple of cola’s and they are pulling down as much or more in retirement as they did when they were full time teaching/md/admin.
I think a lot of the highest paid public employees in most states are college athletic coaches. I know Bill Self was (I’m assuming still is). Luckily Brownback made it to where he didn’t have to pay state income taxes. Worked out real well for all of us. Shit trickled down so fast it was hurting people’s heads.
Doesn’t seem like it.
“Applying a sales tax would grow the economy by $2.5 trillion a year and would create 4.5 million new jobs, according to Yang.”
Sounds like solid reasoning. I guess my only question is, why not apply a higher tax? Surely, with the proposed tax growing the economy and adding jobs, a higher tax would do even better!
Sounds good to me. We have a President who said he would borrow because if we defaulted he would make a good deal. And later on said we couldn’t default anyways because we print the money.
I would think he would support this can’t lose deal.
Michael Avenatti… doing stupid and sleazy stuff in a hurry. Where does he get all his energy to beat his wife, commit wire fraud, extort Nike, slander SCOTUS appointees, feud with the president, get fired by a porn star, sue people at the border, feel out polling in Iowa for a presidential run… cocaine is a hell of a drug.
So what the hell’s the scoop here? I will admit I haven’t followed the story closely. So he lied but no big deal or it did happen maybe not like he described?
You think this example is bad? Look into the Jeffery Epstein case. The feds and the state of Florida bent over backwards to protect this guy and give him a slap on the wrist. Even his civil suits in federal court are 100% redacted, which should never happen.
