Initially I think it’d be warring militias, and then turn to govt vs rebel militias.

Not only the above, but I believe you’d see a significant splintering of the military and their weapons systems being used by both sides.

In all tyrannies there is a small clique that benefits under the tyranny. Sure, they have to bow and scrape, but then, the masses have to bow and scrape before them. It seems to be a basic human trait that some people love hierarchies.
Then you have tyrannies that are only temporary and necessary evils to bring about utopia. “The ends justify the means” types.
Either way I dare say you won’t see a war of Americans vs. The Government, but Americans vs. Americans, with elements of the military on both sides

I have, but I may not have known them very well.
Last week I sold a shotgun to a self identified progressive. He’s in his early thirties, his wife is pregnant with their first child, and he’s seriously obsessed with firearms. Went from never having shot a firearm in his life to owning four pistols in less than a year, and now a Remington 870 police.
“I’m not going to join the NRA or anything!” he assured me, several times.
He’s clearly in a transitional phase, was probably knew it all a few years ago, but came to the realization that his family’s safety is his ultimate responsibility.
