The Stupid Thread 2 (Part 1)

Inasmuch as they only narrowly won the POTUS, by a Supreme Court case no less.

Not at all, I am saying that the turbulence from 2000-16 makes it hard to draw definitive trends on the effect of impeachment. Nothing more.

I’ll concede that.

If that’s what punishment looks like (with context of the following timeline as well), I’d hope the Dems volunteer for that ‘punishment’ en masse.

Fair enough. I’d still argue hand over fist the 2008 Dem victory had absolutely nothing to do with the impeachment

We may have a chance to test that soon. I’ll happlily concede the point if so.

Haha well let’s hope we get to see it. If history is any indicator, we’ll see a 20 year run of Dems crushing elections everywhere with a 2 yr gap of GOP control

THANK YOU, @pfury!

And he has convinced a wide swath of America that he isn’t.

I like to tell myself the ones that truly believe he’s not establishment are the same mouth breathers who bought into the birther movement. And the rest are Zeb types that are just ‘always vote R’ types.

At least I hope so

I’m not informed well enough in politics to make any arguments here, but I can’t help but notice that none of this discussion has anything to do with how good or bad the president is actually doing at his job. Does that even matter to people anymore? All of the statistics look like our country has improved since he took office.

I’m the average citizen. I don’t research and study this stuff. I just kind of observe what’s going on with my small portion of the world and things seem to be going well.

The democrats favor welfare and their recent behavior terrifies me. They’re getting so mad and petty. They’re definitely hypocrites.

The history of government where the majority get on welfare thus giving the government power to control them is closer than I’d like to think.

Not really. For the GOP to paint Obama as the devil (many times literally) they had to push the public to completely ignore all important stats when deciding if someone is doing a good job. Dems being the equal sheeple they are, were more than happy to use the same tactics.

This statement could very very easily be applied to the GOP as well.

Using welfare to buy votes has always been used by both sides.

Would you say we’re closer now than we were 5 years ago? 10 years? Not baiting, serious question

10 years ago, yes. 5 years ago, no. It seems like there are more free things available to those who want to exploit the system (Obama phones).

My perspective could also be the result of a career change in 2010 that resulted in me working around people living in poverty. Sadly, it appears a lot of them choose to live that way.

So you’re saying we’re closer to the majority being on welfare under Trump than we were under Obama?

Fwiw, my grandparents had a couple of these back when W was POTUS. They just didn’t have a catchy name like Obama phones

Agreed. I had a similar experience when I did foreclosed home inspections

We’re closer to the majority being on welfare now than we were 10 years ago. In my mind it seems the people taking handouts realized they could get more when Obama took office (that was part of his campaign, right?).

I don’t think we’re on a steady path to anywhere right now; I think we’re stable.

Again, my perception is my reality and it may not be the reality for rest of the country.

I’ve heard teenage girls talk openly about the welfare programs available and how they intend to use them like it’s a profession.

Personally I’d attribute it to the 07 crash, I’ll try to see if there’s any data

Yeah this also definitely isn’t new or partisan. The vast majority of my family (spoiler, they nearly all vote republican) have been on some form of assistance my entire life

So this site uses % of GDP a lot. Looks like a massive decrease for Obama’s terms almost across the board

This one does indeed show an increase during Obamas early years right after the crash

And as a bonus aside, it seems my home state of WV is moving up in the world. I remember them being higher on the list

I see a lot of people on disability. I bet that’s not included but I’ve started lumping it into government assistance because the people I see are not disabled. They will say they have some personality disorder but they’re actually just selfish, immature assholes.

We have businesses here who employ mentally handicapped people and they do productive work. I have a brother-in-law who is a bipolar schizophrenic and an alcoholic and I don’t think he’s on disability (he’d qualify).

I once asked the wife of a disabled guy who was drunk at 9am “What’s his disability?”

He response: “He’s lazy.”

I’ve also met a drunk who received disability for a personality disorder and he summarized it by saying “I don’t like being told what to do.”

Apparently getting fired from multiple jobs because you’re a baby is a qualifier for free money.

They’re giving out disability income at an alarming rate.

I’m not sure if it was included, but yeah I see a lot of the same. I’ve got 2 direct family members back in WV that have been on disability as long back as I can remember. But they both did it the old school way and faked back and neck pain.

This disability for personality shit is a new low imo

Edit: Disabled-worker statistics

Looks like disability started to drop about 2 years into Obama’s tenure. Didn’t expect this one

Dude said he could shoot someone and people were like “Fuck ya, Murica!”. If anyone can spin an impeachment, notorious DJT can.

Spinning something into your base eating it and somehow making it more negative for the other guys are 2 completely different animals.

He’d need net + voter turnout after being impeached (don’t think we’ve ever seen this happen before?)

To the extent this is true, it doesn’t follow that the improvements are due to Trump’s actions.

Given the demeanor and statements of Trump, this is simply astonishing to me.

That program was started in 1985. And it’s still going on. (Are they Trump phones now?)

Why the hell does everyone call them Obama phones? The people that have them call them that.

Any idea when the program switched to cell phones? We obviously didn’t have those is 85.

GOP marketing? Same reason we call it Obamacare? Basically boils down to ignorance

Under W I believe. If not under W then under Clinton.

Unless my grandparents got their obamaphones and time travelled back in time
