The Stupid Thread 2 (Part 1)

Amazing.

Can’t wait to read the final headline associated with him:

“Boy thinks he’s a wolf; killed by wolf pack”

I’m not sure which is dumber, the content of the article or the fact that they used a picture of Marine Corps. recruits…

Lol! That’s a Fox News article, too. It was ironic to read as a Burger King commercial played in between paragraphs.

Also, you’d think these things were laced with testosterone by how their magical effects are stated.

I have buddies who are/were MTIs (drill sergeant) in the AF - from the time I left basic (2001) to when they became drill instructors, there were many, many changes to the conduct of an instructor.

For instance, they can no longer yell, swear or make the trainee feel bad. It was about the time I had to make the decision to re-enlist or separate that I heard these stories. You can guess which way I chose. Fuckin’ pansy ass bullshit if you ask me…

EPB wanted to build out its gigabit fiber network to many of these same communities using money it has on hand or private loans at no cost to taxpayers. It would then charge individual residents for internet service. Instead, Tennessee taxpayers will give $45 million in tax breaks and grants to giant companies just to get basic infrastructure built. They will then get the opportunity to pay these companies more money for worse internet than they would have gotten under EPB’s proposal.

They actually present a good argument for their position if you think about it. As they will soon find out as adults- when they express such stupid and poorly formed opinions outside of their little snow globes they will be told to shut up, and having the ability to self enforce their want to squash free speech, will be free to do so.

This would be more appropriate of a post in the biology of race thread

http://www.kptv.com/story/35382234/pps-students-to-hold-rally-protesting-presence-of-armed-police-in-schools

“The student action network says student arrests happen frequently and are traumatic and embarrassing experiences for the students involved.”

New argument for getting rid of police, getting arrested is embarrassing. You can’t make this stuff up.

Right so:

  1. Terrorist leader who organized strikes on civilians

  2. Caught

  3. Convicted of murder and got 5 life sentences

  4. Put in prison which meets international standards

  5. Wants better conditions for him and other inmates

  6. Starts hunger strike

  7. He secretly eats cookies while others starve

Unbelievable.

Winning the thread!!

From the abstract of a paper published April 13 in the academic journal Gender, Place and Culture:

Eastern fox squirrels (Sciurus niger), reddish-brown tree squirrels native to the eastern and southeastern United States, were introduced to and now thrive in suburban/urban California. . . . ‘Easties,’ as they are colloquially referred to in the popular press, are willing to feed on trash and have an ‘appetite for everything.’ Given that the shift in tree squirrel demographics is a relatively recent phenomenon, this case presents a unique opportunity to question and re-theorize the ontological given of ‘otherness’ that manifests, in part, through a politics whereby animal food choices ‘[come] to stand in for both compliance and resistance to the dominant forces in [human] culture’. I, therefore, juxtapose feminist posthumanist theories and feminist food studies scholarship to demonstrate how eastern fox squirrels are subjected to gendered, racialized, and speciesist thinking in the popular news media as a result of their feeding/eating practices, their unique and unfixed spatial arrangements in the greater Los Angeles region, and the western, modernist human frame through which humans interpret these actions.

Just think. The human who wrote that could have been useful. If only someone would have steered her away from “feminist posthumanist theories and feminist food studies scholarship”.

I wish this actually benefited someone, somewhere.

Oh sure. While “real academics” think about “important things” nobody is thinking about the squirrels.

Related to the squirrels who “are subjected to gendered, racialized, and speciesist thinking,” I think Steven Pinker has it right.

He doesn’t belong on this thread. He’s not stupid, but he’s good at explaining stupid.
