The Road to a 600kg Raw Total

Sounds good man. I can make it to the competition. Also, we are busy with stuff this weekend so I am just going to deadlift at the base gym. I’ll have to catch up with you on the next one!

cheers fellas - Jowee, no worries dude.

At first glance, I didn’t see the 3 board and thought you were suddenly benching 300lb full ROM. Given novaeer’s current pressing prowess, I was about to jack in my current training and start up with Josh! Still, looking forward to seeing what you can do at the meet!

lol i wish!!

I finish in after 2 more weeks - then the meet, a little unsure on what to do after to be honest, I may take it ‘easier’ for a few weeks to heal up this knee!

Comments
Well this day didn’t go as planned…went down to train with the West Mids boys, 4 of us were squatting - took forever to get everything done, I killed some time with the core stuff and spotting etc - but ALOT of waiting. Moved onto deadlift and hit the best 210 in agggggesss…fast, strong, no issues locking out - must be the change of atmosphere or something haha!

Knee felt ok for most reps, a little sore on others - a tad sore now, probably got carried away - but this gives me confidence that I have 190ish…maybe a tad more in me for meet.

Completely screwed up my training week too now haha - Will do the legs circuit and working deads tomorrow so in effect a 5 day week.

Oh and my fucking belt is loose…that lever belt better turn up soon!

Not checked in for awhile but great work… all lifts looking strong!

cheers Jake - had a few set-backs, just trying to tick over until the meet and then focus on some rehab!!

How are you holding up?

Hi mate - where you been…ready for your Bench meet?

As for myself…meh, my chest has improved so I can press without any issues now…but overall strength is probably down now. I think I will be ‘happy’ to press 120kg at this meet…

Knee is still a problem - I will be able to squat, but it won’t be anywhere near my best - I will be aiming to match what I did this weekend - 180ish…which is 20kg down from my previous!

I have 1 more full week with Josh, then a ‘deload’ week before the meet…

Yep, just cruising until the meet this Saturday. I will probably do a few light sets of bench tonight and some stretching to keep the hip nice and loose.

Have you had your knee examined or do you think it is your basic patella tendinitis? Are you allowed to wear knee wraps or sleeves to be considered raw at your comp? One liniment I might suggest trying is capsaicin - but only use it in modest amounts and for god’s sake make sure you wipe and wash your hands before you scratch your junk. LOL, trust me.

good stuff - try and get a recording…I think you’ll hit the magical 400! best of luck anyway.

I did, I went to see BBB (from the boards) - he diagnosed it as minor tendonitis, it only really comes on during heavy squats. I will get it seen to after this meet.

I am competing in an open meet - so everyone else will probably be in gear, I can wear sleeves to be raw - or I could just wear wraps I guess.

I have invested in some tiger balm, seemed to help a little on Sunday - will see how I get on! Thanks for the advice.

Man, if I hit 400 on Saturday that would be a huge surprise - and a welcome one, of course.

Will the squat count as a raw lift if done in wraps, because I know some feds don’t allow wraps for the raw lifters. Tendinitis can disappear pretty quickly so you might get lucky and not have the trick knee give you any trouble at the meet. In addition to the tiger balm, apply a small amount of capzasin. It will burn once you start sweating, but the heat is great for the knee joint.

tried some wraps for the first time in ages - dont recall any knee pain, but then again I couldn’t feel fuck all in general haha might experiment a little more with them and maybe use them in the meet - only failed the 190 because I couldn’t drive through the pain enough. Power is there.

30 mins cardio this AM

No real knee pain from yesterday…bonus! Could well be squatting in wraps for the meet then…will work some more on them early next week.

I am thinking of dropping squats after the meet for a while to heal the knee - perhaps run some form of bench work with Coan/ Phillipi or something.

Ideas welcome

I wouldn’t drop all forms of squats completely. When I’ve had knee issues in the past, box squats with a more traditional sit-back style took away the pressure from the knees and at least provided some degree of carryover when free squatting came back into the fold. Are you doing TKEs? They’re really good for strengthening the muscles around your knees and should help to alleviate the pain there.

I have been messing about with different stances - wide, narrower, flat shoe - oly shoe…all the same at the minute!

If I can keep them in, even light ones I will do…haven’t ever done TKEs before, I have seen them - will check them out and have a bash.
