Yeah I’m still not sure why they’re under the executive branch. That’s what I had to look up…
I 100% agree it would be great to give IGs even more layers of independence, but the judiciary raises constitutional and technical problems - I’m not sure the judiciary is authorized to take the step of initiating and overseeing investigative functions (which can lead to legal action against individuals), likely would be a separate of powers problem.
Somehow I don’t think “landslide” is the key word I’d choose for this upcoming election…
I’m also not sure this will pan out. In normal times, a recession is catastrophic for an incumbent, but that usually has the opposing party using that as a hammer against the sitting president.
What’s the message going to be from the DNC? Trump wrecked the economy, but we don’t want to reopen in a significant manner yet?
Maybe that plays well, especially if there’s some big push to soften the impact by Biden. I haven’t a notion, to be honest.
I got burned on predictions enough in 2016 to not chance my arm on it again.
I don’t know how you would spin it honestly. You could very well say “he didn’t do enough early on and that’s why we had this huge recession”, and in a normal situation that would work well. Unfortunately Biden is on record opposing Trump’s first move to prohibit travel from China, so that’s not going to work for him. He could call into question the rest of Trump’s early response, much like people such as myself have, but he lost the big stick. The rest is a bit more feasible to spin for DT.
I thought 2016 was as weird as it could get. I was wrong.
That’s a bold assumption. It remains to be seen if Joe Biden can join enough words together to pull this one off, but if he can, WATCH OUT TRUMP!
Or that Trump will even lose (IMO).
I’m with @Legalsteel. I just don’t see COVID-19 as a very strong “Political Play”, especially if all you got is “he reacted too late”. The reality is that viruses don’t give a shit when you react.
Don’t get me wrong; Trump has been anything but a leader in all of this…and has been more responsible for further dividing us than uniting us. But the DEMS better attack him from a different angle than COVID-19.
And Pandemic or not, Trump is using the power of the Presidency to focus his efforts on those Battleground States and to support his case for 4 more years.
In the meantime, “Where is Waldo? (Biden?)”
Oh! @Legalsteel?
I am the worst at predicting these things; but I just have a feeling that this Presidential Election will hold no surprises.
Let me also add that Biden does NOT have a fervent base that thinks he is either perfect or could do no wrong. Trump does.
Landslide? Probably not. Trump win? Yes.
And for what it’s worth, that’s my prediction.
The message could be, it was a fun experiment to have a reality tv star, a character, for president when the issues were vague, illusory and intangible (Mexican rapists, low cost universal health care, a Wall someone else would pay for, etc.) but when things become real, competence is more important than the ability to come up with slogans like MAGA and fake news. Giving Covid a nickname, the China virus, as if it were a political enemy (Sleepy Joe, Lyin’ Ted Cruz) doesn’t accomplish much. I mean, it’s not as if the virus is reading Trump’s tweets.
Doing the smart thing and letting Trump hang himself. Trump has said one dumb thing after another since this all started. Here’s a good campaign slogan for Biden: vote for the guy who didn’t tell you to drink bleach.
Lolz!
Sleepy Joe vs Disinfectant Don.
Trump says he would change NOTHING about his response to Corona Virus:
I’m sorry, but that is unforgivable. I think The Trump administration handled the crisis better than a lot of folks are willing to admit, as we get to judge using hindsight, but even with hindsight Trump thinks he did everything perfectly. That is just awful. I freely admit im a never-trumper, so Biden doesnt have to win me over, but i just do not see how the average american can look at the POTUS say something like this and not be utterly disgusted at such an incompetent, arrogant attitude.
Regrettably, that’s where much of the Country is, @Californiagrown…
This ain’t a good look for Biden.
Agreed, it was certainly not a great moment for him, even if said facetiously.
That said, 4 years ago America stopped giving AF about inappropriate racist, sexist, “locker room humor” type remarks.
This.
But herein lies the problem, @Californiagrown, for Biden; America has developed almost a “herd immunity” against Trump’s Bullshit…
How many times has Trump done, said or Tweeted something, and the collective response is kind of an “Oh, well…!”
Biden doesn’t have what is a distinct strategic advantage; the ability to do and say just about anything without significant Political Damage.
You need an example? The scrutiny one sees with just about everything that comes out of Biden’s mouth.
President Lysol may get some “WTF’s???” and a liberal Op-Ed or two…but ultimately, he gets a pass…
I’ve no doubt this won’t faze a majority of his white supporters. I hold little hope a truly decent person will ever win a presidential nomination in the future with the state of affairs American politics is in.
There’s only a couple of things everyone in jail has in common: (one of which is) They can’t read. Snopes, if you’re reading, would you mind checking that?
At what point in living memory did society ever care much about locker room humor? Setting aside, of course, when it can hurt your recent political opponents.
Have you watched many comedies from the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s?
Blazing Saddles?
Meatballs?
Bachelor Party?
Animal House?
Kentucky Fried Movie?
I realize none of these could be made today, but that’s progress for you, I guess.
