The Push to 2020 Has Begun!

Just running ads of Biden’s gaffes/senile moments will go a long way for Trump.

You’re right. Trump really can’t in good faith go after Biden for his age, gaffes, being too far to the left or being an elite. I don’t think that’s the plan though. The Senate and Justice Department are going to open up investigations into the Bidens involvement with Burisma. Burisma is going to be the new rallying cry - this year’s “Benghazi!”, or “Emails!” - whether not there’s any substance. Those Democrats putting forward yet another corrupt politician. We’ll have to see what effect it has on the folks in the middle who will decide the election.

I don’t think the economy will be a factor if it’s doing well, only if it’s doing poorly. I mean, Obama’s economy was strong by all measures in 2016. You’d think voters would have stuck with someone from his administration, but it didn’t seem to matter. FWIW, I think the economy is running on borrowed time. Interest rates are basically zero meaning we don’t have a lot of options for course correcting if things turn south. We’re back to trillion dollar deficits, so we have less room to cut taxes as stimulus. The foundation of today’s economy feels pretty shaky to me. The question is whether the inevitable downturn will happen before or after the election. Coronavirus may be the deciding factor.

There is a problem with this strategy. That is that the same could be done against Trump. He has many times struggled with words (sounded almost drunk IMO).

I don’t have a crystal ball to say when it is coming down. When it does come down I feel trump has given away our get out of jail card (tax breaks), in effort to improve his approval numbers at a time the economy obviously did not need stimulus.

Trump can’t stop lying about anything. Trump is a classic liar. 40% truth, 60% lies.

While I don’t disagree with you, @kjm (another excellent synopsis!)…I think the attacks on Biden will be brutal; relentless; and from every angle possible. Nothing…and I mean nothing will be off limits.

It’s all about the win for Trump, and making himself look good. Does anyone think for one instance that Trump could tolerate being a one-term President…when President Obama had two?

That would be an intolerable scenario for a narcissistic with an ego as big as Trumps.

I have been attacked in the past for this, @mnben87…but the reality is that Conservatives are much better at negative campaigning than Liberals.

Look…why would someone be angry by that statement? Negative campaigning is an integral part of Politics…so why not take credit for being damn good at it?

Now…sprinkle in a little Russian help…some one-sided Wiki-leaks…

MAGA

4 more years.

Agreed.
Plus in the debates, attack him or his family.
He will melt down, because he is thin skinned.

True…

But…Trump is not???

The negative things about Biden: old, senile, gaffs, creepy, thin skinned can all be said against Trump. I would argue we could add more things to the Trump list (lying, infidelity, narcissism, etc…).

Why we haven’t seen this stuff called out is baffling to me. The GOP has been better at it, but I am not sure why? It seems so easy with a target like trump.

Oh he is alright.
But Biden will short circuit and begin cursing, threatening to go outside, and act irrational.1

This just in: Upper middle-class white childless liberals in Maine express their disappointment in old white men on social media. They are NOT happy about Biden. Or Trump. Or much of anything, it seems.

Bob hearted the post and Rain did the angry face react. I know Bob has been making the case for Warren for over a year now, so this has really got to sting.

I’ll be sure to keep you guys posted as the situation develops.

#thankyouwarren is trending on Twitter, lol.

I actually am with you on this one, @treco

I’ve seen Biden kind of “lose it” when asked what I thought were basic, and very reasonable questions to ask someone running for POTUS.

I suppose the question will be who can get under whose skin the most during a debate.

(I could so see Trump asking Biden about “Corn Pop”!)

And don’t forget Trump will be open to indictment when he’s no longer president. The Mueller investigation was predicated on the understanding that you can’t indict a sitting president. There are also a bunch of pending lawsuits against Trump, which could result in a deposition or two. He can avoid all that shit if he’s reelected.

It helps that they (Trump in particular) will stoop to any low. How long do you think before Trump mocks Biden for the death of Beau or his first wife? At some point that shit has to turn off moderate/independent voters.

I think it will be a huge factor. If the economy was doing poorly I’m not sure what the appeal of Trump would be. He talks about the wall but doesn’t truly care if it doesn’t happen and/or can’t make it happen. Nothing on healthcare. Maybe could talk about a foreign policy that hasn’t lead to war. Biden’s record really doesn’t suggest he would do anything massively unique in fiscal or social policies. He may have said some things while running that could give people pause but all candidates appeal to the base and typically shift center after securing the nomination.

For the most part Americans don’t like to change Presidents in modern history and we don’t like to fuck with a good economy. Those are both significant factors for Trump. Even GWB was pretty disliked in 04 and won.

Your point about the economy in 08 is a good one but I think it was largely offset by Dems running a historically disliked candidate. If I’m a Trump strategist I’m talking about the economy all the time. Even if we thinks we’re headed for bad times none of it matters to voters if it hasn’t happened yet. If the economy starts to falter I think it seriously hampers him. If it’s in the shape it is now I think he’s pretty tough to beat.

We will see. It is overblown IMO, but Corona virus could cause a big drop in the market (it has rebounded some after the fall last week). If we end up with 40-70% of people being infected (I saw that as one estimate), it could cause havoc.

Additionally, the kill rate for corona for 80+ year olds is ~15%, for 70-80 year olds it is 8%. If we get close to those infection rates and the kill rate stays about the same a state like Florida is likely blue if this all happens before November. Additionally, felons all get to vote in Florida now if they want to. I am not sure how ex-convicts vote?

I am aware that this is a bit of projecting that will likely not happen. Just a rant.

Well, he’s running as a Democrat, so I doubt that would help. Regardless, that clip is about his gun grabbing desires.

This isn’t new. Happy liberals don’t exist after about age 30.

If any of you doesn’t want this to happen, we can’t be friends.

Liberals really do seem like miserable bitter husks

Obama’s still coming for all the guns anytime now though :face_with_symbols_over_mouth:
