The Push to 2020 Has Begun!

God I hope so. The moving to the center part maybe maybe not. Hell we can’t even define the center. But hopefully less far left/right to the extreme Less polarization maybe not. But I absolutely don’t think it can hurt to have someone different than the current President in that regard.

He’s consistently split the country, vilified people who ask him questions, and generally given the idea off that if you don’t kiss his ring you are an enemy. Do I think if Biden wins everyone sings and hold hands? Hell no. But does it help to have a leader that doesn’t stoke the flames of division daily? I think so.

Buckle up initially though because both sides are going to struggle as usual or more if their candidate loses.

Australia has managed it, but that’s because of mandatory voting. Mean voter theory actually applies to Aus.

The outcomes may surprise some people though, as many of the Australian cross party consensus policies would be left/ right wing wish list items in the USA.

If I recall correctly, Brazil has mandatory voting as well - hence the election of a fabled centrist that is Bolsonaro.

It was meant to be sarcastic. I am not trying to offend you… Sometimes I just can’t help it :grinning:

Understood, then ignore my reply as I accidentally missed the sarcasm

Could be right but if this is the case why cut the wealthiest peoples taxes at all? Why not target the whole damn thing at people making under (pick a number you’re comfortable with doesn’t matter to o me) x amount of dollars. Getting the average person to say something like they pay a lot in tax already for them has to be the greatest play of all time. Like convincing people that tax cuts of the wealthy were going to piss all over poor people so hard they would need helmets.

I haven’t looked at the data recently but would fully believe your approx 90% of middle class people had their taxes lowered. I think that’s part of the grift. You say everyone is getting a tax cut and they feel good. Maybe they don’t notice then who gets the bulk of the good stuff. Give everyone a 1000 stimulus check during coronavirus relief or something and then the average person doesn’t focus on the wealthiest businesses that got billions.

If we think lowering the tax rate of people who have seen their wealth skyrocket is a priority then that’s fine. I can get on board with it. But I can’t get on board with people saying “we can’t afford to do anything on health care or help more with education” at the same time. It’s just not a priority.

Someone with the amount of wealth that Trump has doesn’t need to pay 750 dollars in taxes and he doesn’t need a tax cut.

But if we are talking about the debt I completely agree with have a spending problem. But we also have giant issues with the way we tax people IMO at the highest levels of wealth. I shouldn’t pay less than you simply because I can afford people to manipulate the game and you can’t.

This type of thing, leaving supporters in the cold in Omaha, I just don’t see how this makes someone seem caring.

@twojarslave This guy was one of the NYT’s famous “anonymous” sources, who was fighting the insider fight against the nefarious Trump from within. I (vaguely) remember speculation that it might have been a cabinet member or gasp Pence himself. Now, LOLLL the “anonymous” dude is revealed…(note -the op-ed was written before he was chief of staff for the Homeland Security Secretary)

Oh, and I bet his op-Ed wasn’t policed on Twitter or Facebook.

Should put it up in the msm thread too.

This seems similar to the Mission Accomplished times.

Joe Biden keeps working hard to keep the big lie going. This ghoul of a candidate continues to embolden the domestic terror wing of the Democrats by reinforcing the nonsense narrative of white supremacist police.

It was a clearly justified use of force against Wallace, who was a career criminal and cancer on society. Get his family up on stage at the next DNC.

I would have said that Brazil was a poorer comparison for the US than Aus, given that they are both anglophone federal systems.

Certainly your counterpoint does give me some pause, but I think it would be an interesting indication of the state of the republic if mandatory voting made them get more extreme.

Again, the venerable John Gray puts it all perfectly into place in a book review, none the less.

Wokery is the successor ideology of neo-conservatism, a singularly American world-view. That may be why it has become a powerful force only in countries (such as Britain) heavily exposed to American culture wars. In much of the world – Asian and Islamic societies and large parts of Europe, for example – the woke movement is marginal, and its American prototype viewed with bemused indifference or contempt.

Gee, I wonder why Biden won’t take any questions? "You’re a lying dog-faced pony-soldier. The good news is that the more this story gets suppressed, the bigger it gets. All the center to right leaning journals are carrying the story and the story about the censorship. We have documents, collaboration, cell phones, taped calls and a living breathing witness and nobody from the Biden camp has bothered to deny the specific claims. They yell ‘Russia’! So much so, that even Biden himself thinks it’s russian because he’s to dim to remember last week.
I have never seen a quieter campaign in my life. Biden goes out with his 15 supporters and stammers through something incomprehensible and Trumps plane isn’t fast enough to keep up with him crisscrossing the country. I tell you what, from what I have seen of Air Force 1, it’s nice enough to live in, indefinitely. I’d want to spend as much time in it as I could too.

The funny thing is, Biden doesn’t control his Twitter account. It doesn’t excuse these stupid tweets that push a false and damaging narrative.

What if I had not quoted the “Twitter account” part of your statement???..

(I don’t follow these stories anymore, so I’m just talking shite, maybe.)

The family that is estranged, but suddenly appears out of the woodwork to embrace their beloved son, who was such a nice boy? The family that will now have their hands out, ready to scoop up the “reparations” being tossed their way by the guilt-ridden, self-hating privileged?

People would probably have thought… bladder.
