We invest. The problem is where we invest.
Damn straight
What changes/policies would you like to see in the american education system? Any candidates that you know of who promote a similar education platform?
They would actually emphasize content and critical thinking. Academic rigor is lacking but social/emotional learning is the new thing. Hence the large number of fragile young people with zero social skills.
Great post.
My thoughts in response:
-
Term Limits - love the idea, always have. Opponents will say we already have them - every elextion - and don’t get in the way of people choosing. But I think you need institutional restrictions. And it needs to be coupled with redistricting.
-
Education - not being snarky, shooting completely straight: if the last four year’s taught me anything it’s that widespread ignorance is an enormous problem. Just the large number of people who are prone to buy conspiracy theories, peddled misinformation, and demagoguery has been eye opening. Education is supposed to innoculate people from this stuff - we’ve failed miserably. Dump the frivolous stuff and double down on rigor - with a big emphasis on critical thinking. And don’t give high school diplomas to people who haven’t earned it - let it be a participation trophy no more.
-
Health care - nuff said.
-
Foreign policy - get smart, reduce (don’t eliminate) our role as world policeman. Transform the economy into one that embraces trade but isn’t so dependent on it, especially with countries that don’t believe in what we believe. Shared values gets you a seat at the table for a trade deal.
So mostly just curriculum in your opinion? That wouldn’t have any significant cost associated, right? I have a hard time believing you think education funding is basically adequate currently…
Agree here whole heartedly. Hard thing to teach though.
That’s too hard. How will lazy assholes validate their degree??
How much of education funding goes to education? The actual learning? Vs how much goes to administration salaries, social workers, psychologists, special ed (because every other kid is now “special”), sports, technology that really doesn’t aid the learning process…
Also, stop with the college for all bull crap that puts unreasonable expectations on some kids. Some of these kids should learn a trade while also learning the skills and behaviors necessary to get and keep a job. Some will end up making more money than a college grad and without the debt.
Not even remotely surprising.
It’s infuriating. IDK why anyone wouldnt spit and turnaround when he walks by. Just a total POS human.
He’s everything you don’t want in a leader combined with every behavior you try to raise your kid to not have. And yet the current President and very strong chance of two terms.
I am getting so I don’t trust a lot of Press (Left OR Right)…so I will ask it as a question:
How legitimate is Trump’s call to his Minions to Vote twice…both mail-in and in-person?
New “conservative” principle - soldiers are just a bunch of beta male losers who couldn’t hack it in the private sector so they took a government job.
Always “sources”. If that were true, why not have the balls to stand up and say so?
Would you work for someone who said that?
You really doubt that? He’s already said disgusting shit like that IN PUBLIC about McCain. It’s not at all a stretch; he’s expressed such views publicly already.
Other low-lights from the Atlantic article:
On the same trip he when canceled a visit to the Aisne-Marne American Cemetery near Paris his thoughts on WWII -
Who were the good guys in this war?” He also said that he didn’t understand why the United States would intervene on the side of the Allies.
and
“Why should I go to that cemetery? It’s filled with losers.”**
On McCain:
When McCain died, in August 2018, Trump told his senior staff, according to three sources with direct knowledge of this event, “We’re not going to support that loser’s funeral,” and he became furious, according to witnesses, when he saw flags lowered to half-staff. “What the fuck are we doing that for? Guy was a fucking loser,”
On GHW Bush:
Trump referred to former President George H. W. Bush as a “loser” for being shot down by the Japanese as a Navy pilot in World War II. (Bush escaped capture, but eight other men shot down during the same mission were [caught, tortured, and executed]
But remember that the President avoided Vietnam because of bone spurs, but DID go through his personal Vietnam by avoiding venereal diseases all those years.
Slow clap for all the people still supporting this guy.
Do you really doubt it? Come on man.
Isn’t voting twice a felony?
