Haha, i would have chosen “undecided” for all of them as i don’t know every little detail about them personally or accomplishment wise and I have a natural aversion to commitment. A lot of villainous assholes did important, good things over the years. A lot of folks who tried to do the right thing ended up causing horrific outcomes. Nuance… its lost in a poll that asks an all-or-nothing question.
Morality evolves over time. We would struggle to find people 1,000 years ago that most people would think of as having good morals. Many would likely be okay with slavery (at least in a certain context), less rights for women, sex with children in certain places…
Because there are other facts that people fear. For example, who is responsible for the majority of violent crime in America and, who raised them?
You can find people like that today. Where I wonder?
A national treasure. His show has been cancelled again for reasons that are totally unfathomable to me (apart from him being a right of centre journalist with links to the spectator, that is.)
His eviscerations of Ken Livingstone and more recently Owen Jones are legendary. But I also remember the deer-in-headlights look on Ben Shapiro’s face when he realized he wasn’t on an American infotainment channel.
Shapiro claimed he wasn’t prepared. He was asked to address a topic he has talked about ad nauseam.
Car crash doesn’t begin to describe that interview. What Shapiro didn’t realise is that some British interviewers have a command of the facts, and used to be on inter-varsity debate teams.
He can claim what he likes. He was schooled by a man who is more than his match.
I’d like to say that Neil is a common talent but, alas, the recent crop are more like US cable news pundits than the generation they replaced.
Edit: it pains me that of all the things we could have taken from America, we took infotainment and critical race theory.
You could have taken diabetes and baseball.
We have plenty of the former, and we have cricket, which I’m not sure is anything other than a more boring version of baseball.
It looks like Cornhole and Cow Chip Throwing originated in the United States…
Damn…I thought for sure that was some British shit! (No pun intended!)
Atlas Obscura is always good for an interesting read.
It really drives me crazy. I understand not wanting to do a deep dive into something only tangentially related to your life or interests, but it really does not take much energy to skim below the headline and do a “2+2=4?” smell check.
I’d ask for more but I’m already bound to be disappointed as it is…
Took a break from this thread for a bit but I am not sure. I take polling with a few buckets of salt, but ol’ Biden is winning in poll numbers that don’t particularly look very close. Especially suburban voters… which, as the article I was reading related, have never been won by more than 5 pt in favor of the democrat nominee since polling began.
Trump’s strategy may work but November is a helluva long way off.
My parents are in this category. They HATED Hillary, so it was the “enemy of my enemy is my friend” thing.
I’d say he (or probably his campaign manager) is trying to court the fundraising and social media savvy that those two possess. Or in Bernie’s case, that his campaign/followers were adamant about giving.
I can’t say it’s not something more insidious, but I don’t think it on the balance of probability. Both AOC and Bernie have very vocal and tech savvy fan bases. And AOC has been great at fundraising.
Please, please for the love of all good and intelligent things kill them off
I know it’s from the Guardian, but it made me chuckle too much to not share.
Oh, Biden isn’t the useful hallowed out sock puppet of the far left?
“We have a president who is determined to sow chaos and division. To make matters worse instead of better. We all remember the appalling scenes in front of the White House, when peaceful protesters were gassed to make way for a Trump photo op. Now Homeland Security agents — without a clearly defined mandate or authority — are ranging far from federal property, stripped of badges and insignia and identifying markings, to detain people. They are brutally attacking peaceful protesters, including a U.S. Navy veteran. Of course the U.S. government has the right and duty to protect federal property. The Obama-Biden administration protected federal property across the country without resorting to these egregious tactics — and without trying to stoke the fires of division in this country. We need a president who will bring us together instead of tear us apart, calm instead of inflame, and enforce the law faithfully rather than put his political interests first.”
The guy nearly repeats their propaganda word for word. Holy crap. You vote for this man then you have no business complaining about Trump. At least there aren’t massive mobs of Trump supporters beating, looting, shooting children, and burning shit down.
Hey Biden, you want to denounce the far-left agenda of BLM? Want to loudly and frequently shame the terrorists attacking federal property and personnel? Cancel culture? Nah, because you’re not actually opposed to chaos and division, you’re counting on it. You old vulture. You and Trump deserve each other.
Can’t stand Trumpet conspiracy-tinged anti-mask crap. And I can’t stand the left. Every election cycle I find myself embarrassed with the nominees. Flat out disgusted.
In that statement, the only thing not objectively true (that i am aware of) is the part of peaceful protestors in (we assume) PDX… and even that can be argued is true as the only public instance of clandestinely grabbing a person off the street, that DHS confirmed, was of a person that DHS also confirmed was innocent of any wrongdoing. The rest is pretty spot on IMO.
He obviously didn’t write that.
