The Push to 2020 Has Begun!

This is where you lose me.

This guy drove past a person who insulted him and asked him “where’s your white hood?”. Any and all sarcastic remarks are on at that point. “Yeah, white power” seems like an ENTIRELY appropriate response to that.

You can act offended at a sarcastic remark made in response to heckling, but don’t be surprised if nobody gives a shit about your feelings. Sarcasm is not racism, but there’s no shortage of people like you ready to make that argument.

Fucking yikes. Even for backwoods Maine, fucking yikes.

Really? Yikes? Why would I give a shit what someone who calls me a racist thinks about my sarcastic response to heckling? Why should anyone care?

The more I read this thread, the more I understand how Trump got to be President in the first place.

One of the big problems with online debates i see is that people become more and more entrenched on the side of the argument they initially picked, and then it becomes more about being right and proving the other person wrong than it is about analyzing the event and forming well thought out opinion.

In this thread you have defended trumps posting of the video, the white house not apologizing for the video, and are now saying the old white fuck shouting “white power, white power” was in the right. You may not give a shit about what i think (more than fair), but i bet you would cringe at the positions you argued if given the opportunity to reflect.

Are there women posting here?

We all have at least one X chromosome…

Here we are, back at TDS. I used plain English words. I said it was bad to post the video. I later clarified this in a separate post to “very bad”.

I’ll say it once more. It was bad for Trump to post that. Very bad. It didn’t help anyone except ad salesmen and people who get off on Trump news.

I was talking about denouncing. What behavior is present that needs denouncing?

I think a more apologetic tone would have been appropriate, but I didn’t find their statement to be problematic. They acknowledged the mistake by taking the tweet down and said there was no bad intent with it. I realize some people would like to see more groveling, but I’m okay without it.

I’ve got to come back to this because yes, I think it is okay to say “WHITE POWER”. Like any other choice of words, you should choose it well, but it is no de-facto “YIKES”. C’mon man.

This is an important discussion to have at this point in history. Leftists want everyone walking on pins and needles, subject to a language code that’s both retroactive and ever-shifting with harsh penalties for infractions, if the mob sees fit. I know at least several times in the past I’ve adopted my Indiana drawl and said “waaaht pahwer!” in the context of talking about dumb white hicks from Indiana with other people from Indiana. It’s a good joke in the right context.

THIS IS FINE TO DO. JOKES ARE OKAY.

Even jokes are under assault from leftists, and have been for some time. The Church of Woke is so poisonous in their thought process that they are anti-comedy, hiding their lame prudishness behind feigned offense and compassion for “oppressed” people. Of course, the irony of this is that comedians will be the last ones to cave on free speech and the wokescolds themselves are nothing but an endless stream of joke people with joke ideas and joke actions, bound to be the subject of an endless line of jokes.

Leftists continue to be oblivious to these things, which is why we were told that white supremacists, Nazi’s and Russian agents were to blame for Trump’s election.

I agree that there is too much of a crackdown on jokes.

This was not intended as a joke. The old white fuck who shouted “white power, white power” was not going for laughs from the people he was speaking to. I cannot believe you are still trying to defend this.

If you want to talk about tangible empowerment of white supremacists by trump, this is a perfect example. You are defending someone yelling “white power, white power” at somone in anger. Its been a slow slide for you, but defending trumps borderline racist words and actions over the past 3 years (as unintentional, sarcastic, not meant literally), combined with your reflexive opposition to the lefts policing of speech has led you to this. A guy who would have never in a million years thought he would ever be racist, or think racist things… now condoning a white man shouting “white power, white power” at someone in anger.

It was a clear sarcastic remark in response to a heckler asking him “where is your hood?”. Are you really pretending that this wasn’t a two person exchange of words?

What I find particularly interesting is that his response is what leftists and/or people like you find problematic, not the heckling that initiated it. Of course it is fine to insult Trump supporters, they asked for it by voting for him. He’s just part of the noble #resistance.

This is very similar to Covington Catholic, where the entire focus was on how a child responded to an adult’s unwelcome behavior. No word about the behavior of the conflict initiator, the only one under scrutiny is the person who responded to it.

Nice edit.

You can’t articulate or follow a coherent line of thought, so you suggest I’m a white supremacist, with the added flair of suggesting I’m experiencing some slow decline into my current dark realm of retrograde thinking.

You get style points, at least.

Guilty. At this point, I’m thinking MAGA ain’t so bad…

I will say for me at least that I don’t have a whole lot of opinion on the video itself. I’m not out to defend either person nor who was serious or not. I’m sure tons of videos that are similar are out there with all this stuff that’s gone on or at the minimum throughout the history of the web.

But here we are (yet again) wondering if the President is racist and an idiot. Or not racist and just an idiot. If it’s not Kung Flu or Central Park 5 it’s housing discrimination, birtherism, both sides, and the list goes on and on and on.

To me we sit with a global pandemic and considerable unrest in racial relations. And our “leader” is incapable of “putting thought” into the power of his words and actions. He has the exact opposite of qualities people have looked for in leaders.

If I had to guess Trump is probably heavily-medicated and not particularly enthusiastic about how his life’s been going lately. Maybe I’ve got him pegged all wrong, but it’s hard to imagine why anyone would would to take a break from being a Really Rich Guy to take on the job of President in the face of BY FAR the most hostile press in modern history. I think he’s mostly who he says he is, or at least he tries to be.

My worst-case character judgement of him boils down to the same basic criticism I have of liberal policies. He values his own ego over results. Liberals get caught up in what they think will happen when advocating for this or that policy, but rarely stop to examine what actually does. The ideas in your head and the intentions you hold become more powerful than what’s happening in front of you. I think Trump set out on this path with all of the good intentions he said he had, with an almost childish naivete about how government actually works.

I have a hard time buying into the notions of Trumpian Fascist aspirations we were warned about. The imminent outbreak of white supremacist violence has yet to begin. The election still seems to be on-schedule, and Trump is not President For Life.

I’d generally agree, but at least we don’t have Justin Trudeau or Joe Biden.

Why do you think things will improve with 4 more years of trump?

Heres a thought out of left field…

What if Joe Biden picks Nicki Haley as his VP? he said he wanted a woman of color. That move would, at least symbolically, bridge the left-right division we hav in this country right now… and i bet it would please a shitton of republicans looking for a reason to not vote trump… meanwhile democrats have no other choice.

Rules-wise, is that even possible?

I lived in NYC during Trump’s “prime”. I’m one of the few who recall that he was de facto bankrupt, and was bailed out by the Big Banks because his properties were worth more with him as the face of the franchise.

In my mind, his “legendary” accomplishment was fixing the Wollman Ice Rink, a task that city appointed people failed at more than once. (paid off the right people) So he does know how gov’t works, sort of.

I contend to this day that the same people deriding him today are the ones who made sure he was the R-nominee four years ago, because they thought he would implode and then they could finally unfurl the red carpet for Hilary, as the appropriate sequel to the Baby Jesus Era. Well, they got half of what they wished for, and imo they deserved it. Yep, “They”.

Trump’s only aspiration is to be the center of attention, period. What has astounded me is that when I strip away the trappings of all the flowery verbiage being strewn about during all the crazy shit happening, I find myself agreeing overall with what Trump is doing; at the very least, it’s not the abhorrent revulsion I feel at what the “other side” is doing/wants.

It’s crazy, but here I be.

Yeah one of John McCain’s first picks for VP was actually Joseph Lieberman.

I think it would absolutely kick ass for something like that but it has no chance of happening. Republicans would lose their shit at her betrayal. (Not that Dems wouldn’t in a role reversal)

I think he has other aspirations, but his need for attention has so much gravity it pulls the other concerns into orbit around his ego. If his ego is the Sun, his good intentions are Jupiter, swinging its massive gravity out in the distance, disrupting the orbit of lesser stellar bodies and sending them on unplanned trajectories that may result in catastrophe. Or not. We’ll find out together, here on Earth, caught between our President’s ego and intentions.

I’ve been watching episodes of How the Universe Works on the Science channel. From what I gather, Titan (one of Jupiter’s moons) is the current best bet humanity has for potential off planet settlement. So…coincidence…? Heh.

Thanks to President Donald Trump, we now have a United States Space Force to both explore and attack Titan, infect its inhabitants with smallpox and assume dominion over their lands, should such steps be necessary.

Why does this whine never end? Is there ever a moment when Trump (and his cultists) aren’t in a state of constant victimization?

The press writes mean things - he has the nuclear codes and a propaganda arm willing to give him great press off an ideological assembly line. They’re largely irrelevant, he has the power, not them. The media isn’t the villain in the story - and they aren’t the reason his polling has collapsed.

He’s a disastrous president that says and does awful things - the press can’t ignore that.

I get it - the cultists need a dog to eat Trump’s homework to justify his poor results - and that’s the media. But it’s nonsense.
