I would have had mad props for the GOP on the whole if they’d have said “Trump just doesn’t represent us and we might lose but here’s some serious candidates to choose from.” I would have probably voted for them on that alone. I’ve already said long term what the GOP is doing with Trump is going to hurt them.
I’d say it’s two-fold. In the age of the internet why not run? Make some campaign money, build brand recognition, get minor media attention. To me the positives outweigh the negatives. Like I said in the dem field ones I expect the number of people running on both sides to continue to climb.
I guess their Lives are just much different than mine in 2 ways: 1) I am not a Professional Politician. In other words; maybe this is their “job”? 2) I just have neither the time nor temperament to waste my time.
However; as you said; perhaps “no-loss/no-gain” for a few of them, I guess.
Well it is a politicians job even if we don’t like it to build brand recognition and raise money if they have future aspirations. I’m sure some of these people really don’t like Trump and want to beat him even if they know it’s far fetched.
In something like the Dem primary a lot of successful politicians and even future presidential nominees get their “start” from losing a presidential primary. It’s very likely that a lot of the Dems running right now will run again in 2024 assuming Trump wins. And they will have name recognition which is huge. Throw in money and it’s almost a no brained to me even if you have no real chance to win.
Does this mean… no war? Let’s all fucking hope so.
BTW anyone care about the militarization of the south China Sea (where 1/5th of the world’s goods pass)? That Chinese destroyer came within 50ft of possibly starting WW3 last month. Screw Iran, war with China would really suck.
That’s the war US cannot win. But based on the current developments in Hong Kong, it seems the Celestial Empire is still not ready for a full scale confrontation…
